How To Retrieve OEM Windows Product Key From BIOS

536 ratings | 42356 views
How To Retrieve OEM Windows Product Key From BIOS This is a very simple process on how to recover the Windows Licence Key from your BIOS. There is really no need to do this unless you want a copy of it. If you brought a Laptop with Windows 8, Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 pre-installed as a OEM licence then this video is for you. The licence key is stored in the BIOS and when your reinstall Windows the product key will activate automatically. Join our forum http://www.briteccomputers.co.uk/forum

What's wrong with just using an elevated Command Prompt and issuing the following command: wmic path softwarelicensingservice get OA3xOriginalProductKey OR in an elevated Powershell: powershell "(Get-WmiObject -query ‘select * from SoftwareLicensingService’).OA3xOriginalProductKey"

Fantastic as usual

As Daryush Horshovsky noted (in his comment below), one can also obtain the OEM Windows 10 product key using Powershell. Additionally, for those who prefer command prompt, one can open up an elevated command prompt (cmd with Admin privileges), type the following: wmic path softwarelicensingservice get OA3xOriginalProductKey and hit "Enter". This should (nearly) immediately give the OEM product key in the command prompt window of any laptop or desktop running Windows 8, Windows 8.1 or Windows 10. For Windows 7, if it is not located on (or sometimes on the bottom) of the computer case, then one will probably need to use third party software. *****

Phil Dawson Funny. No I am runnig Windows Insider copy
Phil Dawson (7 months ago)
X Xycom you are running a pirate copy of windows. I'm calling Johnny Depp
X Xycom (7 months ago)
Kristof Bryant I tried it both from elevated command prompt, and elevated powershell. I got the following response from the system: “ OA3xOriginalProductKey “. In other words both your trick, and Daryush’s trick did not work on my Windows 10.

When the title says “from bios” i actually thought you were going to be in the bios.....very misleading.
Atarox (29 days ago)
+Britec09 It's just the wording. People are reading the title as if you're actually going into the BIOS to obtain the information and not using software on the OS side to pull information from the bios to display the key lol. It's all good and a petty thing to mention
Britec09 (7 months ago)
The software rw everything is reading and displaying your BIOS? that software can read everything in the BIOS? not sure why you would think that is misleading.
