From Oscar de la Renta to Chanel, here are some of the most lavish and prestigious fashion brands. Subscribe to Hindered Thoughts http://goo.gl/d3U3RP 6. Chanel The high fashion wear company was introduced to the world back in 1909 by none other than Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel, otherwise known as “Coco Chanel.” This is where the brand gets its inspiration for the famously recognizable logo that is two interlocking C’s. The company specializes in creating haute couture for its wealthy clients but also for fashion models like Naomi Campbell, who once modeled for them, and actresses Marilyn Monroe, Keira Knightley, and Nicole Kidman. One of their most famous products is the perfume No. 5 de Chanel, along with the Chanel Suit. Today, Chanel is valued at being $6.8 billion dollars. An interesting fact to note is that Karl Lagerfeld, the creative director behind Fendi, happens to be the creative director for Chanel as well. 5. Prada Founded back in 1913 by Mario Prada, this fashion brand actually started out by manufacturing leather bags and trunks. It would then evolve into selling everything from clothing to perfume and even a brief stint of LG Prada cell phones. Though the brand may have broadened its inventory, it still spends the majority of its focus creating some of the world’s most exclusive handbags that only the rich and famous can possibly hope to afford. Mario Prada believed that women should not be involved in business so he excluded his own family members from getting involved. In a fantastic twist of irony, his son did not care to run the business so his daughter Luisa Prada took over as his successor and is now currently being run by her daughter Miuccia. 4. House of Versace The fashion empire that is the House of Versace all started with fashion designer Gianni Versace back in 1978. He created a brand that has been synonymous with elegance and simply oozes high fashion. His glamorous gowns have gone on to make a name for himself as a respected designer. Like the case of the famous black dress held with gold safety pins that actress Elizabeth Hurley wore back in 1994 to the premiere of Four Weddings and A Funeral. Sadly, Versace’s life was cut short in 1997 on the steps of his Miami mansion when he became the fifth and final victim of Andrew Cunanan. The tragic event will be the story behind American Crime Story’s season 2 titled: The Assassination of Gianni Versace. After his death, his sister Donatella became the new Artistic Director and has established a $5.5 billion company her brother would be proud of. 3. Gucci Started in 1921 by a Mr. Guccio Gucci, the company was originally dabbing in leather goods. It wasn’t until 19 years later when his son Aldo would take the company from being a one-stop shop into the fashion powerhouse that it’s now known for being. It’s Aldo that would usher in the era of the brand’s iconic “Bamboo Bag” and its “ready to wear segments.” In the 90’s, the company decided to bring American Fashion designer Tom Ford to revamp their women’s wear. He ended up helping launch the brand to where it is today. The fashion brand houses other well-known designers in its collections such as Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney, and Yves Saint Laurent. If you’re in the market to do some shopping at this $12.4 billion brand, expect to spend at least $2,000. 2. Louis Vuitton This may come as a shock but the famous fashion brand has been around longer than you might have thought. Formed 163 years ago in 1854, a young man by the name of Louis Vuitton started out as an apprentice for a box-maker. Vuitton ended up becoming a well-known crafter of luxury trunks and opened up his own shop in Paris. He then ended up becoming the personal box-maker of Napoleon III’s wife, Empress Eugenie de Montijo. Fast forward years later and the company is now worth $28.1 billion with a generated revenue of $10.1 billion. Today, Louis Vuitton doesn’t make just trunks but designer handbags and clothing that can be spotted on the most famous of A-listers. 1. Balenciaga The beginning of Balenciaga’s reign began back in 1919 when it was established by its founder of the same name, Cristóbal Balenciaga. As a young child, Balenciaga became an apprentice to a tailor in his hometown of Getaria, Spain and would eventually get his formal training in Madrid. He would go on to create the House of Balenciaga and skyrocketed to success thanks to his artistic genius. He was hailed as the undisputed “ King of Fashion” and was highly respected among his peers which included the likes of Coco Chanel, Christian Dior, and Pierre Balmain. Balenciaga even helped train the likes of high-fashion designers Oscar de la Renta and Hubert Givenchy to name a few.

Karl Lagerfeld, the eccentric German designer who blended fashion and art, who favored white hair, black sunglasses and 19th-century-style shirt collars, and simultaneously was creative director of French (Chanel), Italian (Fendi) and eponymous international fashion labels, has died. He was in his 80s. One of the most celebrated, if controversial, fashion icons of the 20th and 21st centuries, Lagerfeld passed away early Tuesday, Chanel told The Associated Press. On Jan. 22, 2019, Lagerfeld worried fans when he did not come out to take a bow at Chanel's couture show in Paris, which the company attributed to fatigue. It was the first time in recent memory that Lagerfeld, who has designed for the house since 1983, did not come out to receive applause at the end of one of his shows. His studio director, Virginie Viard, appeared in his place, emerging from the door of a lavish Italian "villa" that was the set painstakingly created by the house to showcase its spring-summer designs. Chanel told The Associated Press that Lagerfeld asked Viard to represent him because he "was feeling tired," but did not provide any further details. Never shy about his own genius, Lagerfeld considered himself world renowned for his "cutting-edge, aspirational and relevant approach to style," with a fashion sensibility "rooted in a DNA that’s accessible-luxe and cool," and a "signature aesthetic combining timeless classics with a modern, rock-chic edge," according to his website. "His visionary creativity expands beyond fashion to include illustration, photography, styling and publishing." "Edgy" might be a better one-word summary of Lagerfeld – the man, his fashion and his art. He designed clothes that made people gasp with delight; he said things that made people gasp with shock. After nearly 66 years on the throne, Queen Elizabeth II is the longest reigning monarch in British history and has been a constant and calming force amidst the fast-paced changes their country has faced, making it even more inconceivable to think about what happens when she dies. Since Buckingham Palace doesn’t shy away from procedure, it's no surprise there’s already a comprehensive plan in place for what happens after she passes, known as Operation London Bridge. On the day Queen Elizabeth II dies, her death will elicit a comprehensive plan that has been in place since the 1960s. What will happen when Her Majesty's reign comes to an end and how will Britain mourn the loss? Here is what we know so far. Synopsis Fashion designer Coco Chanel, born August 19, 1883, in Saumur, France, is famous for her timeless designs, trademark suits, and little black dresses. Chanel was raised in an orphanage and taught to sew. She had a brief career as a singer before opening her first clothes shop in 1910. In the 1920s, she launched her first perfume and introduced the Chanel suit and the little black dress. Early Life Famed fashion designer Coco Chanel was born Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel on August 19, 1883, in Saumur, France. With her trademark suits and little black dresses, Coco Chanel created timeless designs that are still popular today. She herself became a much revered style icon known for her simple yet sophisticated outfits paired with great accessories, such as several strands of pearls. As Chanel once said,“luxury must be comfortable, otherwise it is not luxury.” Her early years, however, were anything but glamorous. After her mother’s death, Chanel was put in an orphanage by her father who worked as a peddler. She was raised by nuns who taught her how to sew—a skill that would lead to her life’s work. Her nickname came from another occupation entirely. During her brief career as a singer, Chanel performed in clubs in Vichy and Moulins where she was called “Coco.” Some say that the name comes from one of the songs she used to sing, and Chanel herself said that it was a “shortened version of cocotte, the French word for ‘kept woman,” according to an article in The Atlantic.

Alexander McQueen and Philip Treacy on catwalk STORYLINE: The brilliant and controversial British fashion designer Alexander McQueen, a leading light in the fashion firmament, has been found dead in his London home. His company made the announcement on Thursday. He was 40 years old. Police said his death was not being treated as suspicious. McQueen''s sudden death robbed the fashion scene of one of its most innovative and successful young designers. He made his name first in London, then wooed audiences in Paris, New York and Milan to take his place in the upper echelons of the designing world. Despite the accolades, McQueen clung tenaciously to his privacy, turning down most interview requests and shying away from the post-show limelight other designers craved. Known for his dramatic statement pieces and impeccable tailoring, he helped raise the profile of British fashion and was recognised by Queen Elizabeth II in 2003 when she made him a Commander of the British Empire for his fashion leadership. Little was immediately known about the circumstances surrounding his death, which came as the fashion elite was gathered in New York for a series of catwalk shows. Recently posted comments on his Twitter page showed signs of anguish over the February 2 death of his mother. He said he wanted his mother to rest in peace and said, "But life must go on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Using an obscenity, he added that he had had an "awful week" and said he had to "some how pull myself together and finish." (22 Feb 2019) MORE TRIBUTES FOR ICONIC COUTURIER KARL LAGERFELD Tributes continue to pour in for fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld who died this week. In Milan where designers are showing their fall/winter 2019 collections for fashion week, colleagues and fans spoke about Chanel's iconic couturier. Carlo Capasa, President of Camera Nazionale della Moda (Italian Chamber of Fashion) said Thursday (21 FEB. 2019), "he was an absolute icon who gave to fashion more than anybody else. And it's a big loss. We can only be sad but as he did not like to be celebrated for his death, I think we should celebrate him for his work he has been doing, which was incredible and great." Lagerfeld whose accomplished designs as well as trademark white ponytail, high starched collars and dark enigmatic glasses dominated high fashion for the last 50 years was around 85 years old when he died Tuesday. Such was the enigma surrounding the German-born designer that even his age was a point of mystery for decades, with reports he had two birth certificates, one dated 1933 and the other 1938. He was of the most hardworking figures in the fashion world holding down the top design jobs at LVMH-owned luxury label Fendi from 1977, and Paris' family-owned powerhouse Chanel in 1983. Lagerfeld's designs quickly trickled down to low-end retailers, giving him an almost unprecedented impact on the entire fashion industry. American fashion journalist Jessica Michault said, "Karl was one the most savvy fashion designers that we've ever seen. He was really able to capture, as they say in french, l'air du temp, really capture what was going on in the world, be it the influencers, be it the style, be it the aesthetic, and he was somebody who really was able to adapt and never really looked at the past but always looked at the future. And I think that that's one of the things that's always hard to do when you get older, to continue to be relevant and he was always relevant, all the way to the end." Karl Lagerfeld, one of the most influential and recognizable fashion designers of the 20th century, died Tuesday at the age of 85. The German designer is best known for his work as the creative director of Chanel, the French luxury fashion house. He was a prolific designer, also at the creative helm of Fendi and his eponymous label at the time of his death. Lagerfeld died Tuesday morning in Paris, the city he helped turn into the fashion capital of the world, his label said. Rumors had swirled about his health after he was absent from his Chanel show in late January, due to what the fashion house described as tiredness. Lagerfeld, who transformed Chanel into a global powerhouse after becoming a creative director in 1983, was rarely seen without his dark glasses, a silver ponytail and fingerless gloves -- gaining him the reputation as the most recognizable man in fashion, and one of its most outspoken. "My job is not to do what she did, but what she would have done," he said of the brand's founder, Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel. "The good thing about Chanel is it is an idea you can adapt to many things." "Today the world lost a giant among men," Anna Wintour, the editor-in-chief of Vogue, said in a statement. "His creative genius was breathtaking and to be his friend was an exceptional gift. Karl was brilliant, he was wicked, he was funny, he was generous beyond measure, and he was deeply kind. I will miss him so very much." Chanel CEO Alain Wertheimer said in a statement on Tuesday that the late designer was "ahead of his time" and his "creative genius, generosity and exceptional intuition" contributed to the House of Chanel's success throughout the world." The head of LVMH, which owns Fendi and Louis Vuitton, said the fashion world had "lost a great inspiration." "We owe him a great deal: his taste and talent were the most exceptional I have ever known," Bernard Arnault, the chairman, and CEO of LVMH said in a statement. "We loved and admired him deeply."

Alexander McQueen on stage STORYLINE ALEXANDER MCQUEEN FOUND DEAD The brilliant and controversial British fashion designer Alexander McQueen, a leading light in the fashion firmament, has been found dead in his London home. He said he wanted his mother to rest in peace and said, "But life must go on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Using an obscenity, he added that he had had an "awful week" and said he had to "some how pull myself together and finish." "McQueen influenced a whole generation of designers. He became chief designer at the renowned Givenchy house in 1996 and moved to Gucci as creative director in 2001. More Celebrity News ►► http://bit.ly/SubClevverNews Authorities in New York have in fact confirmed this terrible news, naming the time of death today at 10:26AM. TMZ reports that Kate Spade hung herself in her home. They’re also reporting that the designer did leave a note at the scene. Other reports note that alchohol and drugs were not involved. She was discovered by her housekeeping staff with a red scarf around her neck that was attached to a doorknob. Kate Spade began her handbag line with her husband Andy Spade in the 1990’s. When the brand was acquired in the early 2000’s for upwards of 125-million-dollars, Spade stepped away from the business to spend more time with their daughter Frances. Just a few years ago, Spade stepped back into the fashion world, kicking off a new handbag line called Frances Valentine after her daughter. She is survived by both her husband and daughter who our condolences go out to at this devastating time. Reporting at Clevver headquarters I’m Joslyn Davis. Selena Quintanilla-Pérez was an American singer, songwriter, spokesperson, model, actress, and fashion designer. Called the Queen of Tejano music, her contributions to music and fashion made her one of the most celebrated Mexican-American entertainers of the late 20th century. Billboard magazine named her the top-selling Latin artist of the 1990s decade, while her posthumous collaboration with MAC cosmetics became the best-selling celebrity collection in cosmetics history. Media outlets called her the "Tejano Madonna" for her clothing choices.[a] She also ranks among the most influential Latin artists of all time and is credited for catapulting a music genre into the mainstream market. The youngest child of the Quintanilla family, she debuted on the music scene in 1980 as a member of the band Selena y Los Dinos, which also included her elder siblings A.B. Quintanilla and Suzette Quintanilla. Selena began recording professionally in 1982. In the 1980s, she was often criticized and was refused bookings at venues across Texas for performing Tejano music—a male-dominated music genre. However, her popularity grew after she won the Tejano Music Award for Female Vocalist of the Year in 1987, which she won nine consecutive times. Selena signed with EMI Latin in 1989 and released her self-titled debut album the same year, while her brother became her principal music producer and songwriter. ★ Click to SUBSCRIBE for more awesome! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCqOmJO0ptmmHrsOnR3oPtTA ★ Thank you for stopping by the channel! Visit www.chocolatefilms.com TRANSCRIPT Me and my wife met in a disco. Had we heard of the word design? It's one of those words that you might have not even known from our background. Gradually we must have realised that actually we had a design brain and that was developed from all the things that you should do when you're young. We were both out clubbing from the age of 13. We started off not calling ourselves designers, then I suppose we had to call ourselves fashion designers 'cause we had one of, one of the world's most famous fashion companies in Red or Dead. And after we sold that, we wanted to follow the way we had been brought up with an egalitarian view on the world. And then eventually do events like this where you're doing things that have got social benefit. Coming from a town, a reasonable sized town like Blackburn, there was only one fashion shop for men. And the rest we had to do ourselves or wear second-hand or go to army circular stores. My mum and my nan always made clothes, so there was always a sewing machine going in the house and they encouraged me, they never stood in the way of me going out or dressing differently or kinda cutting my own hair and all that kinda stuff. I was, I was 13 when I started to collect records. I was 13 when I started to be totally independent and be able to, you know, make my own outfits with a bit of help from my mum and learned how to use a sewing machine rudimentary. You were doing it to be different, so you were, you were different but it didn't, it didn't, you weren't thought of as a weirdo or anything. You were just somebody who did things a little bit differently. I think men now can, have got much more choice and I think you're allowed to express yourself a little bit more. But in a way people are expressing themselves less. I think we're going through a period of sportswear and, you know, sportswear can be pretty boring. But in the clubs today there's, there's people doing interesting things. My generation doesn't own cool.

Fashion designer, stylist and former model, L'Wren Scott, who was also the long-time girlfriend of rock legend Mick Jagger, was found dead in her New York home in an apparent suicide on Monday. The 49-year-old American was discovered by her assistant at around 10 a.m. Her body was found in a kneeling position, hanging from the L-shaped handle of a French door which led to the balcony of the Chelsea neighborhood apartment. It appears that she hung herself with a black satin scarf. Mick Jagger was having dinner while on tour in Perth, Australia when he received news of Scott's passing. He was seen rushing out of an upscale restaurant that evening. It is not yet known if the Rolling Stones will cancel their tour, but the Perth performance has been put on hold for the time being. It is suspected that Scott may have been suffering depression, as friends noted she had been distant during the past week and avoided phone calls. Fast fashion means that the brands produce in countries where labor is very cheap because the laws don't protect the garment workers. The clothes produced are of poor quality and execution, and they get sold at incredibly cheap prices in "rich countries". Since they are trendy in design, they will get out of fashion quite quickly. In fact, fast fashion brands even release new collections every 2 weeks, to make clothes previously purchased... obsolete. How to tell if a brand is "fast fashion": 1. Look at the brands producing in countries and factories where accidents happen. These brands clearly don't care about where and how their clothes get produced... 2. Research to which larger corporations these brands belong. It is very likely that a huge corporation like Inditex (Zara, Mango...) uses similar production methods for all its brands. 3. Understand the mindset of the brands / corporations that belong to the fast fashion industry: if they outsource their productions to countries where labor rights aren't respected, it is probably not to be charitable. Then claiming to use organic cotton (as an example of PR action) just can't make it up for ethically questionable practices. 4. Learn the break down of a price tag. If a Primark t-shirt costs 5€ in retail, how much of that actually goes to the garment worker? (20 Nov 2017) LEADIN The funeral of Tunisian-born fashion designer Azzedine Alaia has been held in Tunis. He died in Paris on Saturday aged 77. STORYLINE Media and mourners gather outside the home of Tunisian-born fashion designer Azzedine Alaia to pay their respects. Among those to visit the house is Tunisian President, Beji Caid Essebsi, who offers condolences to the family. Alaia's coffin is then transported to Sidi Bou Said cemetery to be buried near his sister and his mother according to his wishes. The funeral ceremony is attended by Tunisian Minister of Culture, Mohamed Zine El Abidine, as well as many other officials and figures from the fashion world. "My presence here is a homage to a great Tunisian artist, but his fame and his works are universal and have a universal artistic value. I think that Azzedine Alaia is an artist who has renewed and added to international fashion," says El Abidine. French Ambassador Olivier Poivre d'Arvor, adds that there would be forty days of grief for Alaia but "not considering him as a star, because he is much more than that and he does not like to be considered like that either." Alaia died in Paris on Saturday aged 77. The French Haute Couture Federation announced his death without providing details. Tributes to his influence on fashion poured in from around the world. Michelle Obama wore his designs as first lady and Naomi Campbell, who attended today's ceremony, was a favoured model. Secretive and known as a fashion rebel, Alaia was based in Paris for decades but did not take part in the French capital's seasonal fashion frenzy or flashy ad campaigns. Instead, he showed privately on his own schedule. Alaia sometimes was dubbed the "king of cling" for the formfitting designs he first popularised during the 1980s and updated over the decades. Multiple museums have held retrospectives of Alaia's work, including the Guggenheim in New York and Paris' Palais Galliera, which put on a show in 2013 that highlighted his way of "slowing down time". His house's website described him as "the little man in eternal Chinese pajamas" who "built a legend, that of a rebel designer who worked against the system and its trends." The two got married in 1994. In 2016, Spade entered the fashion world again when she launched a new brand called Frances Valentine, named after her daughter. She was so committed to the project that she told interviews that she had changed her surname from Spade to Valentine. Last year, the trainer bought the company Kate Spade for $ 2.4 billion.
