What is PRODUCT LINE EXTENSION? What does PRODUCT LINE EXTENSION mean? PRODUCT LINE EXTENSION meaning - PRODUCT LINE EXTENSION definition - PRODUCT LINE EXTENSION explanation. SUBSCRIBE to our Google Earth flights channel - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6UuCPh7GrXznZi0Hz2YQnQ A product line extension is the use of an established product brand name for a new item in the same product category. Line Extensions occur when a company introduces additional items in the same product category under the same brand name such as new flavors, forms, colors, added ingredients, package sizes. This is as opposed to brand extension which is a new product in a totally different product category. Line extension occurs when the company lengthens its product line beyond its current range. The company can extend its product line down-market stretch, up-market stretch, or both ways. Product line extensions are a process where companies with an established brand alter the factors of a product or products to satisfy a refined segment in the market. There are two types of product line extensions, horizontal and vertical. Horizontal extensions consist of keeping the price and quality consistent, but changing factors like flavour or colour to differentiate the products. Vertical extensions consist of increasing and decreasing the quality and price to create inferior and luxury goods. These product line extensions are often closely related to existing products in a brands portfolio, but targets specific brand consumers through this approach. Product line extensions help companies identify and tend to the needs of refined target markets. This approach is a way to try and increase company sales, as well as expanding their brands product portfolio within the desired market. This expansion of a company’s product line also increases their competitive impact, and if applied appropriately, their advantage within the intended market. Practically, when brands apply a product extension strategy they can often benefit from the new addition or additions. This is as extending their product line enlarges their product portfolio and as a result provides the consumers with more variety to choose from. This is positive, as consumers tend to enjoy being able to have choice and through expanding a brands product line, the brand is providing this choice. Investing in this approach is commonly pursued by companies due to their desire to create revenue and to advance their competitive status against rival companies. The advantages when undergoing product line extensions is that the new product or products are commonly closely related to existing products, so the company often has the appropriate production process and capacity to produce the new product or products. Issues facing product line extensions can include company’s investments in the new products without the desired return. The product may come at a loss or may not be able to make enough of the return the company was forecasting for. The new addition could also send confusion to the company’s customer base, and in turn negatively affect the loyalty they have for the brand. This can evidently become a long-term risk in terms of brand image, as consumers may have a new view of the brand as cheap, in the case of downward extension, or unrealistic and unreasonable in terms of upward extension. An issue also connected to the extensions, could result in the production process becoming more and more complicated as a result of new products, this could affect the company’s efficiency and quality in the production of the brands product range. An advantage of extending company product lines is the likely rise in sales, demand and market share. Product line extension increases the amount of different products available to consumers, and through adding more products into the market it keeps consumers interested. This can be helpful in avoiding customer base loss.

What is BRAND EXTENSION? What does BRAND EXTENSION mean? BRAND EXTENSION meaning & explanation
What is BRAND EXTENSION? What does BRAND EXTENSION mean? BRAND EXTENSION meaning - BRAND EXTENSION definition - BRAND EXTENSION explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. Brand extension or brand stretching is a marketing strategy in which a firm marketing a product with a well-developed image uses the same brand name in a different product category. The new product is called a spin-off. Organizations use this strategy to increase and leverage brand equity (definition: the net worth and long-term sustainability just from the renowned name). An example of a brand extension is Jello-gelatin creating Jello pudding pops. It increases awareness of the brand name and increases profitability from offerings in more than one product category. A brand's "extendibility" depends on how strong consumer's associations are to the brand's values and goals. Ralph Lauren's Polo brand successfully extended from clothing to home furnishings such as bedding and towels. Both clothing and bedding are made of linen and fulfill a similar consumer function of comfort and hominess. Arm & Hammer leveraged its brand equity from basic baking soda into the oral care and laundry care categories. By emphasizing its key attributes, the cleaning and deodorizing properties of its core product, Arm & Hammer was able to leverage those attributes into new categories with success. Another example is Virgin Group, which was initially a record label that has extended its brand successfully many times; from transportation (aeroplanes, trains) to games stores and video stores such as Virgin Megastores. In the 1990s, 81 percent of new products used brand extension to introduce new brands and to create sales. Launching a new product is not only time-consuming but also needs a big budget to create brand awareness and to promote a product's benefits. Brand extension is one of the new product development strategies which can reduce financial risk by using the parent brand name to enhance consumers' perception due to the core brand equity. While there can be significant benefits in brand extension strategies, there can also be significant risks, resulting in a diluted or severely damaged brand image. Poor choices for brand extension may dilute and deteriorate the core brand and damage the brand equity. Most of the literature focuses on the consumer evaluation and positive impact on parent brand. In practical cases, the failures of brand extension are at higher rate than the successes. Some studies show that negative impact may dilute brand image and equity. In spite of the positive impact of brand extension, negative association and wrong communication strategy do harm to the parent brand even brand family. Product extensions are versions of the same parent product that serve a segment of the target market and increase the variety of an offering. An example of a product extension is Coke vs. Diet Coke in the same product category of soft drinks. This tactic is undertaken due to the brand loyalty and brand awareness associated with an existing product. Consumers are more likely to buy a new product that has a reputable brand name on it than buy a similar product from a competitor without a reputable brand name. Consumers receive a product from a brand they trust, and the company offering the product can increase its product portfolio and potentially gain a larger share in the market in which it competes. Brand extension research mainly focuses on consumer evaluation of extension and attitude toward the parent brand. In their 1990 model, Aaker and Keller provide a sufficient depth and breadth proposition to examine consumer behaviour and a conceptual framework. The authors use three dimensions to measure the fit of extension. First, the "Complement" refers to consumers taking two product classes (extension and parent brand product) as complementary in satisfying their specific needs.

Brand Extension: Blunders and Big Hits | What I'm Thinking
Howard Tullman of 1871 discusses brands that made strange moves in the past and how they can get it right going forward. See more tastytrade interviews with Howard: http://bit.ly/1vgLm40 Howard Tullman from start-up incubator, 1871, joins the show to discuss some notable "brand blunders", ranging from Cheetos' attempt to enter the lip balm market to a Gerber product line for adults. He thinks the key to successful expansion is not being lazy in relying on historical brand equity, but instead making sensible decisions to differentiate. Discovering what consumers are drawn to and collaboration with innovative companies are the only way big name brands will survive. To this end, he thinks car dealerships, restaurants, grocery chains and ketchup - with an interesting rebranding as a product kids could play with - have it down. Category Extension and Innovation
Michael Bills, executive in residence at The Ohio State University's Fisher College of Business, discusses how brand extensions can disrupt corporate innovation. A common mistake is for companies to make category extensions, which creates innumerable versions of a brand or product line. Bills said this practice is common in the fast food industry and creates a level of consumer confusion. The extension is often the replacement for the creation of incremental and groundbreaking innovation that can be long-term benefit to a corporation. http://fisher.osu.edu/execed

So my favourite choice when it comes to IDE’s is …. WebStorm. WebStorm is an JavaScript IDE create by JetBrains, this guys have the most awesome code editors for programming, they have an independent software for each language. So I use WebStorm because it supports JavaScript, and every framework you could think of, like react js, vue, angular, and the list goes on. If you are coding in a different language like python or php they have the product you need, the links are down below. All IDEs are supported on windows, mac os and linux. Unfortunately you have to pay for their products, but when you are working as a freelancer and you charge hourly every single second that you save with a code editor is pretty much a good investment. I used to think that a lot of tools are dispensable and you throw money out of your window but as soon as i’ve seen the time and how organised I can be, and the confidence by just spending a couple bucks on an app.. it’s pretty amazing. Also worth mentioning JetBrains offer their products for free if you are a student. I also use Visual Studio Code for programming and this one is open source which means is absolutely free. I use this mainly when I code simple tasks like coding up a landing page, or static websites because I personally find it a bit difficult and uncomfortable when working on large projects with your team. This is just a personal opinion, please don’t throw rocks at me. Visual Studio Code is available on all platforms. Before moving on, I just want to clarify that using a better code editor doesn’t make you automatically a better programmer, it will just save you time when it’s worth saving. What I mean by that is before buying monthly subscriptions or even hardware make sure that the time you save with this tools it’s worth more than the actual investment. Do a quick math, if you save an average of 30 minutes per day by using paid product you will save 11 hours per month. Think about how much money you can make in 11 hours and if the monthly expense is lower than that, you are pretty much on the plus side! Next app is called Postman. I use postman for developing API’s by testing out requests a lot faster than you would do normally. It has a very intuitive and beautiful UI and it basically makes your life easier if you work with API’s frequently. It’s available on every platform and they even have an chrome extension. If you have worked with designers before I’m sure you’ve heard about Sketch — it’s used mainly to design interfaces, and also they have some pretty good prototyping features if you are interested about that. This is the software that pretty much forced me switch to macOS, but this doesn’t have to be the case for you mainly because I also do digital product design for mobile apps and web apps as well, and it’s pretty much an bargain compared to Photoshop when it comes time saved. If you are interested about apps like sketch on windows or linux adobe launched an product similar to this called Adobe XD. You only have to pay once to download Sketch compared to adobe’s monthly subscription. Also if you are a student they have some discounts. ImageOptim is a small app only for macOS and I use this for optimising and compressing images for web. It’s not a indispensable app, you could use a lot of alternatives for optimising images like Photoshop, Sketch and so on. inVision — Invision is an collaborative app mainly for designers who want to gather feedback from their own team or clients. I use inVision on a daily basis to get the confirmation on designs before starting to code the website. It saves me from a lot of unnecessary work. When it comes to communicating with remote clients or team I use HipChat. This app is cross platform, and it’s developed by attlasian, the king of productivity apps for programmers, make sure you check out their products! As productivity apps I use 2Do. This is macOS exclusive app that I use to organise my schedule, because I’m a pretty messy person when it comes to dates and I forget things like team meetings, or a movie someone just mentioned or I even bookmark some articles or books, that I absolutely need to read.

UML Use Case Diagram Tutorial
Learn how to make Use Case Diagrams in this tutorial. Both beginners and intermediate UML diagrammers will find all the necessary training and examples on systems, actors, use cases, and include and extend relationships. UML Use Case Diagrams show a system or application; then they show the people, organizations, or other systems that interact with it; and finally, they show a basic flow of what the system or application does. This tutorial explains the four main characteristics of Use Case Diagrams: systems, actors, use cases, and relationships. A system is whatever you’re developing. It could be a website, a software component, a business process, an app, or any number of other things. You represent a system with a rectangle. The next aspect of Use Case Diagrams are actors. An actor is going to be someone or something that uses our system to achieve a goal, and they're represented by a stick figure. Use Cases are elements that really start to describe what the system does. They're depicted with an oval shape and they represent an action that accomplishes some sort of task within the system. The final element in Use Case Diagrams are relationships, which show how actors and use cases interact with each other. There are different types of relationships (like association, include, extend, and generalization) that are represented by varying types of lines and arrows. —— Learn more and sign up: http://www.lucidchart.com Follow us: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/lucidchart Twitter: https://twitter.com/lucidchart Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/lucidchart LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/lucidsoftware
