Wordpress Web Design tutorial: designing your top level web page templates
Get my blueprint cheat sheet here http://bit.ly/webblueprints. In this video I'll cover the main assets to a web page including page navigation, banners, sidebar design, footer, and body page specs. I'll include things like word count, keyword saturation, video placement, and outbound links as well as links to other videos on similar topics. Don't forget to share this video with your friends who are struggling with website design! For every subscriber, YouTube pays me a piece of chicken and a can of beans so PLEASE Subscribe to my channel: http://bit.ly/XkdbXS --------------------------- Video Notes: ************************1. Create templates************************ Now a, a big problem that I see with business owners and like clients that hire me and, and other Wordpress web designers is for every page, they're designing like, a new page. You know, it's like well, we need to add a new page to our website. It's like, oh great, I gotta design a whole nother page. Now it doesn't work that way, you need to be creating templates and a lot of website, website themes today support a template based system. So what we do is we create a series of templates that you can now export to the rest of your pages. But it's still important that those templates. ************************2. Top level Navigation************************ First of all, and of course, you know, like you're, you're always, this could be your social media links up here. This could be like your phone number, or an email button. You know, having those, always able to contact me, buttons, I think is a good idea. Up here you've got your navigation tabs. Now, when I first started in this, it was kind of like the thinking that you should have seven navigation tabs. I don't agree with that anymore. I think that you need to have like four or five, tops, and they need to be very simple. Every single one of them should be directed at converting a viewer to sale. So you don't need one of these navigation tabs to say home. Right? Cuz typically your logo will lead you home. You, you need it to say something like, About Us. What we offer. How to work with us. And our blog. Something like that. Wordpress web design tutorial Designing a top level web page template ************************3. Sidebar and Footer************************ I believe in side bars. Some people are doing like this whole page design, that's okay. That's fine. If that's the, the intent of your site. I like side bars because it enable me to, to engage with the viewer in different ways. Use related pages for your web design- It might be helpful to have YouTube. You know, YouTube marketing. Landing page videos. Video production. Video bumpers. You know? Maybe even a tag that says, what are you looking for? And then underneath that I have a little circle there. Which I typically use to represent a testimonial. So maybe you've got. A Wordpress testimonial widget right in there, where it's, every time it's refreshed, a new testimonial pops up, right. So you're engaging with the viewer that way. You might even have like social media links on, experimenting with an Instagram box. We'll see how that turns out. Let's go to your, I'll come up to the main page last, go to your footer. Your footer here is a huge resource. I like to have a three or four box footer that maybe has, like, you know, a summary about us, maybe our social links and then, maybe, like, a schedule, like schedule with me, or a work with me, right. And this could be an image. Maybe it looks like a contact box, but it's an image, and when you click it. It will go back to that work with us page, see. And then maybe in here you've got something you like your blog roll. Right? So your, your latest and greatest blogs. Or maybe it's like your most popular blogs which you know, you can, you can work that out with some plug ins. ************************4: Main Page************************ In your main page or top level design page, your main body, let's go back to that. Okay, we said about 400 words. But look at how I have it structured. I have an image up at the top and then I have some text right next to it. Now underneath that I have more text. Underneath that I have some bullet points. So basically what you have here is you've got, you know, everything you really need to convert that viewer. Right up here, right up there. And then you're gonna say something like let's dig into that a little bit more because you don't want them necessarily moving off of your page, right? --------------------------- For more information: WEB: http://thevideospot.net TW: http://www.twitter.com/owenhemsath FB: http://www.fb.com/yourvideospot

5 MIN TUTORIAL - Responsive Web Design - SIMPLE EASY
RESPONSIVE WEB DESIGN TUTORIAL FOR BEGINNERS – MOBILE WEBDESIGN - HTML5 css3 Please have a look at my webpage where you can find extra information and download the pdf version. http://tomtomheylen.com/categories/Responsive_web_design/Responsive_web_design_part_1.php Exercise file http://tomtomheylen.com/download_file.php?file=responsive1_final&extention=html NEXT VIDEO – responsive images, videos, menus, backgrounds and hiding elements http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1hTkEV43P_Q IN THIS VIDEO YOU WILL LEARN How to make a responsive webpage using HTML and css The difference between a mobile website and a responsive website and why not to use the mobile version. You should have a basic understanding of html and css in order to follow along this video. I got really confused when starting to look into the topic of mobile devices, responsive web design and mobile sites. This video will save you the time and hassles. RESPONSIVE WEBDESIGN vs MOBILE VERSION A responsive website is one website that resizes all the way to fit the screen of the user's device Whereas a mobile version is a different website usually starting with m-dot Why not to use the m-dot version. Responsive web design doesn't require a separate website You only have to maintain one website that looks good on any device. m.dot websites can create errors when sharing url's, as they will be opened on desktop and mobile devices. When errors, Search engines will punish your site in ranking lower And the list goes on. HTML & CSS FOR RESIZABLE WEB DESIGN You can download the exercise file in the link below. http://tomtomheylen.com/download_file.php?file=responsive1_final&extention=html A good way to build your website is by making your html tags fluid. It is very easy to do by using percentage in your css. For this example we are making a head, menu, the content body and a footer, centered in the web browser. You only have to give the elements a min-height and a marging left and right. With min-height, the elements can increase if needed, Margin left and right are expressed in percentige to keep proportion for any screen resolution. And same thing for margin-top and bottom. You can play around with this figures to fit your needs. So here we have a responsive website!!! When I view this website on a mobile device however, it shows the website in full resolution and I have to zoom-in and out to navigate . Here is where the Viewport Meta Tag comes into play... The viewport metatag was Apple's solution to the problem and was quickly adopted by other platforms. But was never pud forward by the W3C. Therefor we will define a similar viewport rule in our css. And another one as a fix for internet explorer. The width adjusts the site to the device in normal view and landscape view. And zoom or initial 1 stands for no zooming. There are a whole bunch of viewport properties to use for every single device But to make it easy, we only use a few to fit all. I leave you a link as a reference. viewport reference: https://developer.mozilla.org/en/docs/Mozilla/Mobile/Viewport_meta_tag When we view our webpage on a mobile device now, it looks the way we want. NEXT VIDEO http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1hTkEV43P_Q In the next video you will learn how to make responsive navigation menus, responsive images and videos, responsive backgrounds and how to hide elements. Display settings (block, inline-block, inline, and flex) - Web design tutorial
In Webflow (and web design generally), the display setting you set an element determines its behavior in a layout. Generally speaking, elements either stack on top of each other (vertically) or lay out side by side (horizontally), depending on what display setting is used. The beauty is that you can change the display of any element. In this video, we’ll be covering the five display settings available: 1. Block 2. Inline-block 3. Inline 4. Flex 5. None ---------- Get started with Webflow: https://help.webflow.com/courses/getting-started http://webflow.com http://twitter.com/webflow http://facebook.com/webflow

Web design & web development - What's the difference? | CharliMarieTV
There is often confusion around what exactly web design and development are and that they're two separate roles. Find out why in this video! Please remember to subscribe http://bit.ly/1aE5UOT Not all web designers know how to build the sites they design, and not all web developers know how to design sites well in order to build them; and that's okay! While some people are able to do both, they are different skillsets, and each is a perfectly valid and important role on its own. I hope this video helps to demystify the difference between them, and explains why it's okay to focus only on one. Want more on this topic? Web Design Part -1 (2018) - beginner to advanced
Web Design Part -1 (2018) - beginner to advanced What is Web Design and Web Development? Web Design means determining what a website will look like or what its normal form looks like. You will find a link to the exercise file below this video. http://tomtomheylen.com/download_file.php?file=responsive2_images&extention=zip You might aswell watch video one first, where we explained the basics of responsive design. I leave you a link below. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bPo7hxD5gfI We start with a head, a menu, a content body and a footer. We have applied the basics of responsive design as seen in the first video. We will use 2 examples. One with the image on the left of the text and another with the image on the right. In our html we have the image first and then a title and some text. We give the image and the paragraph a class where we will apply some css . In our css we have the class "image left" where we set a width of the image, make it float left and give some spacing between the image and the text. This is the same for the "image right" class with the difference of floating right. And the "clear class" we used in the paragraph tag just to reset the floating elements. The after property explains itself. Apply this styling after the specified class. When we look at our webpage now, we see that the images and text resize the way we want. But we will apply some extra styling for smaller devices. We will use the @media screen property and set it to 600 px. This means that all screens under 600 px will have these extra styles applied to it. Make sure to write your @media properties at the end of your css. For smaller screens, we want to have the image on top of the text. We do this in our css by setting the classes "image left" and "image right" to a 100% width, no margin and reset the float. As a result you have images and text that look good on any device. In this video you have learned How to use images and text for a responsive page And how to apply some extra styling for smaller devices. Maybe you want to watch the final video where we pud together a whole responsive webpage with responsive navigation menus, responsive videos, responsive backgrounds and hiding elements. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1hTkEV43P_Q Did you like this video? RESPONSIVE MENUS - RESPONSIVE WEB DESIGN - HTML5 css3 Please have a look at my webpage where you can find extra information http://tomtomheylen.com/categories/Responsive_web_design/Responsive_web_design_part_1.php Exercise file http://tomtomheylen.com/download_file.php?file=responsive_menus&extention=html PREVIOUS VIDEO – responsive web design basics http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bPo7hxD5gfI FINAL VIDEO – responsive images, videos, menus, backgrounds and hiding elements http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1hTkEV43P_Q In this video you will learn how to make responsive navigation menus. You can download the exercise file below. http://tomtomheylen.com/download_file.php?file=responsive_menus&extention=html You might aswell watch video one first, where we explained the basics of responsive design. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bPo7hxD5gfI We start with a head, a menu, a content body and a footer. We have applied the basics of responsive design as seen in the first video. To make the main horizontal navigation menu, we will use an unordered list "ul" and give it a class name. In our css we will remove the standard list style, make it display horizontal and give it some basic styling properties. When you look at the design now, it responds to different screen sizes. But we give it some extra styling for smaller devices. We will use the @media screen property and set it to 600 px. This means that all screens under 600 px will have these extra styles applied to it. Make sure to write your @media properties at the end of your css. Small screens are controlled with a touch screen and you want to make the links easier to click on. Therefore we enlarge all the links on the page and make them bold. You can play around with this figures to fit your needs. When you look now, you see that it is more easy to navigate with a touch screen. To make the submenu, we will make two div containers. One to display the submenu and another one to hold the main content and we give them an id. For the links we just use "a" tags and break the lines with the "br" tag. In our css we set the sub menu and the content to dispay inline block. And we set the width of those containers expressed in percentage. You see the width of the sub menu is 22% and the width of the content is 70%. Together they are 92 % witch give us some room for paddings and margins. You should never have more than 100 % width all together. Otherwise the the content container will pop out of its position. And to play save, you set the total width to 98% max. When you look at your page now, you see that it resizes al the way down. But we will apply some extra style for smaller screens. In the @media screen property we reset the min-height for the submenu. The "auto" is a fix for internet explorer. And we change the width for the sub menu and the content. As a result you have navigation menu that look good on any device. In this video you have learned. How to make responsive horizontal menus How to make responsive vertical menus And how to display these menus on smaller devices. Maybe you want to watch the final video where we pud together a whole responsive webpage with responsive images, responsive videos, responsive backgrounds and hiding elements.
