5 ways to gain healthy weight for skinny people
Gaining weight as a skinny person is not easy. It is frustrating to eat a lot but still not gain weight. One thing that skinny people do not know is that they have a fast metabolism which makes it hard for them to gain weight. A fast metabolism means that your body burns all the calories you eat. As a skinny person trying to gain weight, you have to eat a lot more than your metabolism can handle. Naturally, creating a caloric surplus in your body will make you gain weight. Probably you are skinny due to lack of knowledge of what it takes to gain weight. Below are top five tips that will help you gain weight: 5. Eat more food The leading trick to gain weight is to consume more calories than your body can burn. The mistake that most people do is to go by their feelings. Your metabolism could be much faster than you think. You need to know how much calories your body needs for you to gain weight. Keep track of everything you eat to know how much calories you consume every day. You might overestimate your calorie intake if you go with your feelings. In the first week, you will have difficulties eating all the required calories for you to gain weight. After maybe two weeks, your stomach will stretch and start getting hungry more often. 4. Track your progress Weigh yourself every week to check how you are progressing. Malnourished people will gain weight quickly in the first week due to increased bowel content and weight from the extra water as well. Continue eating the same if you gain weight; if you do not gain weight, you will have to keep adding more calories to your daily intake every week until you gain weight. You should note that the food that makes you gain the first 10kg will not make you gain the next 10kg. A skinny person with less muscle mass burns fewer calories than one with a bigger muscle mass. Thus, a person with no muscles will require fewer calories to gain weight as opposed to a more masculine person. 3. Eat more protein Protein is necessary for muscle building and recovery. The following are the best protein sources for gaining weight: whole eggs, chicken breast, tuna, cheese, and steaks. For you to build your body muscles, you will require at least 1g of proteins per 1lb of body-weight per day. However, you should have in mind that some people will not gain weight or muscles without gaining fat as well. 2. Eat more meals You have been eating little food for years. Thus your stomach is small. If you are required to take at least 1500 calories a day for you to gain weight, it will be easier if you take 300 calories in 5 meals than having 500 calories in 3 meals. Create yourself a bigger eating window. With eight sleeping hours, you are left with 16 hours to eat. Make a schedule of how you will have the five meals in those 16 hours. 1. Training Lifting weights is good for people trying to gain weight since it triggers the body to build muscle mass. If you do not train, the excess calories that do not burn will be stored as fat around your waistline. Your goal is to be muscular and not chubby. Therefore you will need to train. Remember, the more you train, the more calories you will burn and therefore the more calories you will require creating a caloric surplus. His condition doesn't however prevent him from leading a normal life. She suffers from an extremely rare condition called NeoNatal ProGeroid Syndrome which currently only effects 3 people in the world. Her condition is also known for causing premature ageing. 1) Valeria Levitin Valeria Levitin is the skinniest woman in the world. At 5ft 8 & weighing only 56lbs which is 25kg, she suffers from an extreme case of anorexia. Aged 19, Valeria looked like a healthy young adult, her weight was completely normal yet she was afraid she would become obese and developed a server eating disorder. She has been an inspiration to young girls who want to learn from her mistakes and stay safe from the condition. She wishes to gain weight but is finding it very difficult to overcome her anorexia. Her dream is to be normal again and to become a mother.

Usually the issue is two pronged with both their workouts and nutrition plan to blame for their lack of muscle size. In this video, I’m covering the mistakes made in the workouts and giving you a workout plan for skinny guys that will help you to start adding muscle to your frame without having to sacrifice your low body fat level you likely are starting with. In order to build muscle as a skinny guy you have to look yourself in the mirror and confront your fears first. I know it sounds odd but it is a common problem that sets the roadblock up, preventing you from making any progress. Many hardgainers will fear going to the gym because they don’t want to face the ridicule of the bigger guys around them. That has to stop today. In fact, you’d likely find that if you talked to the majority of these big muscle guys that they would admire your pursuit of change and might even sympathize with you having taken that journey themselves already. Once you get to the gym it’s time to start simplifying your workout plan. The biggest problem with skinny guys is that they try and to more rather than less. It’s an obvious mistake and one that I can see why people make so often. That said, if you are not enhanced and are a natural lifter, doing less is almost always the first step to take rather than trying more. That said, you want to pick just one exercise for each of the six major muscle groups in your body. These are your chest, back, shoulders, legs, and arms. The exercises you choose should be compound in nature and hit multiple muscles at one time. Not just that but these exercises allow you to gradually load up the weight over time as you get stronger. This is why you would pick a barbell curl instead of a concentration curl. Once you identify the exercises you are going to use (my suggestions are provided in the video) then you want to actually lower the weight you might be inclined to try and use. Remember, your discomfort in the gym might make you try and compensate by swinging around weights that you simply cannot command. Don’t do this. Instead, back down on the weight and make sure you can actually lift it with good form and own it. From here, the fun begins. Add weight to the bar on every exercise at every opportunity. Soon you will see that your muscles will grow almost before your eyes. You will gain confidence and you will see muscle growth that will inspire you to keep going. Your only goal at this point should be to be sure you are pushing yourself as hard as you can. Only when you get comfortable being uncomfortable will you see the gains continue to come at a rapid pace. Most of you definitely heard of intermittent fasting before. So the question is now, should you fast if you are skinny? In this video I wanted to lay a couple ground rules on if you are skinny and want to use intermittent fasting in your schedule. First, you need to understand that intermittent fasting is a great diet protocol for losing weight. The good news is that it's also a great muscle building diet protocol is you get in sufficient calories. That's the kicker! Us skinny guys already have a difficult time getting in enough calories to hit the proper surplus for muscle and strength gains. If we fail to eat enough. We are stuck spinning our wheels without making any gains. I'm sure most of you been there, done that. So I need to ask... Do you have trouble eating enough calories each day? Is your diet locked in? For example, if you are using all the ectomorph diet hacks such as dried fruit, fruit juice, naked juice, liquid calories, etc. Along with choosing more calories dense foods. You should be able to eat enough each day. Secondly, will fasting 6, 7, or 8 hours a day make it more difficult for you to get those calories in? I know it does for me! So, should skinny guys do intermittent fasting? Let me explain how I still do it... How to do intermittent fasting if you are skinny: Fasting that long is out of the question for me. It then becomes too difficult to get my calories in. We have to be very diligent to hit our macros each day or it seems as if we are losing a lot of weight right!? So what I do is fast for 4 hours each morning. I do this for 2 main reasons and it works with my schedule very well. 1) I have absolutely no appetite in the morning When I wake up, I don't want to see or even smell food. All I want to do is get ready for work and have my coffee. 4 hours each morning is my laser focused work session where I hammer out the biggest task of the day. 2) After those 4 hours, I actually build up a nice appetite! This allows me to eat a big lunch of around 1500 calories. Fasting for skinny people with this mindset can actually help you eat more food. Eating more food every single day is a freaking chore! So it's nice to give yourself a quick break every morning. But again. Will fasting even just 4 hours work with your schedule? That's very important to think of. If you are very busy later in the evening and fasting for even 4 hours messes up your chances of hitting your calories. Then consider not doing it. I used to eat 7-8 small meals every two hours. What that did was condition my body to eating small meals. It was terrible going out to restaurants because I could barely finish my plate. And if I missed a meal I would get Hangry haha (hungry + angry). But most logic may be: "If I start eating as soon as I wake up...I have all day and night to get my calories in." Well, why do most skinny guys have this problem then? If you need to start eating when you first wake up. Please do that if it means you can hit your calorie surplus. You need to nail that! Fasting for 3 to 4 hours each morning, it helped condition myself to eating larger meals. Should skinny guys do intermittent fasting? The Bottom Line: It's really up to you. But most importantly, you need to be able to nail your calorie surplus each and every day. If you are a beginner and have no experience with pushing yourself to eat more food. I know because I struggled with this myself. Learning how to gain weight fast if you're skinny is made complicated because the truth is, you're getting bad advice. Most will tell you that in order to get big you have to eat big. This is just too damn simplified to have any real merit. As I show you in this video, in order to build muscle if you are skinny you need to FIRST focus on the quality of the food you eat before you even think about the quantity. Eating a lot of bad food will do nothing to help you build muscle size since the building blocks are founded on garbage. Eating less of healthier foods will do far more to help you get bigger, even if that means taking in far fewer calories than you do now. As a self admitted junk food eater growing up, I can tell you that I never was really able to add any muscle eating the food I was eating. It wasn't until I decided to clean up my nutrition and start following more of a bodybuilding diet or eating plan that I started to see my gains skyrocket. The problem was, the bodybuilding meal plan was downright bland! I learned more about nutrition and realized that eating well didn't have to be painful. Years later I would create the X Factor Meal Plan (that is included in the ATHLEAN-X Training System at http://athleanx.com ). This same plan not only helped me to build muscle as a skinny guy but it also ironically helped guys that were overweight to get ripped! How does that work? It happens because when you start having a respect for your nutrition and you provide your body with the nutrients that it needs to build lean muscle, you change the way your body responds to your training. If you are looking to add muscle fast, you'd simply eat more of the right foods to establish a caloric surplus while making sure the food quality was high. If you needed to lose weight you'd cut back on the quantities but always ensure that the quality was kept high. Most skinny guys don't really have that sense of urgency and don't look at being skinny as a problem. More often than not they it's the case of "It would be nice to gain weight" or "I'm fine with the way I am now but I'd like to be able to put on a bit more size." This doesn't generate the necessary motivation to go through the hard process of changing your diet (and stick with it) to gain weight. And if the pain of staying skinny isn't greater than the pain required to go through the process of changing your diet you won't be able to stick with it. Diet and lifestyle adjustments: TIP #1 - Setup Your Calories and Macros To Make It Easier To Eat More As a skinny guy who's generally struggling to eat enough food to gain weight healthy fats are the easiest way to get into a calorie surplus. No matter how adaptive or "fast" your metabolism is at a certain intake of calories your body won't be able to "burn-off" the energy and you'll start gaining weight. Guys who claim they eat 5000-6000 kcal / day and don't gain any weight are either unaware of their true intake or are flat out lying. So the way you setup your macros to make gaining weight easier is to go with a very high fat diet. 1 gram of fat has 9 kcal. The first step of course is to setup the appropriate protein intake which can easily be 1g per lbs of Body-weight if you're skinny. Second step is to give yourself enough carbohydrate which you set as 2 - 3 g / lbs of Body-weight depending on personal preference. And the rest of calories into fat. i.e. Male 150 lbs @ 3000 Kcal/ day broken down into: 150g of protein 280-300g of carbs 130-140g of fat I would generally advise you to avoid or at least minimize heat processed vegetable oils, anything with rapeseed oil, canola oil, hydrogenised or (partially) hardened vegetable fats and artificial transfats. Foods such as peanut butter, almond butter, avocado, coconut oil, olive oil, whole milk, kefir, yoghurt, full fat cheese, fatty fish, generally fattier meats and whole eggs are all amazing sources. My go-to source of healthy fats and calories is dark 80%+ chocolate. If I'm on a "bulk" sometimes I'll eat 2 of these 100g chocolates per day. So when it comes to food you want to avoid low fat products and stick with a high fat diet. TIP #2 - Design Your Environment / LifestyleTo Have Easy Access to Food Healthy snacks are a great choice. Great sources to have around are dry roasted nuts and dried fruits. These are easy to store and to bring with you. You want to make it easier to consume more calories. So things like not drinking water anytime before a meal is recommend so you can eat more. Generally avoid things like intermittent fasting if you need to consume a lot of calories. It doesn't make sense to fast. Eating more frequent meals can help some guys get more food, choose a meal frequency that makes you more hungry and allows for easier consumption of food. Don't forget to bring food with you. Plan how you're gonna get food. This comes down to weekly grocery shopping and always having go-to high calorie sources like nuts and dark chocolate available. TIP #3 - Track Your Food Intake Guys who are naturally skinny greatly overestimate the amount of calories they eat by A LOT. This can be solved with tracking your food intake with free apps such as MyFitnessPal. You don't need to track 24/7 365 days of the year but it is recommended to track for a few weeks to see exactly how much food and calories you need to start gaining weight. If you don't do this you're most likely going to waste your time and you're not going to be consistent. If you remove the guess work you'll get results much faster. Gyms are full of skinny guys that struggle to add muscle mass, and they are letting the hardgainer label hold them back. You see, anyone that doesn't see muscle growth at a rapid rate (or at least as fast as their friends are building muscle) will start to think that they are a hardgainer, doomed to being skinny forever. That doesn't have to be the case. In this video, I show you the number one mistake that skinny guys make when trying to build muscle. They care too much about what others think of them. Some will even avoid doing muscle building exercises or variations because they think they'll look funny doing them. Let me ask you a question. Do you care more about what you look like doing the exercises, or what you will ultimately look like by doing the exercises right? Hardgainers make the mistake of trying to lift heavy weights that they aren't strong enough to actually lift. All this does is take the stress and tension off the muscles that should be doing the work. When you do this, you can't build muscle fast or adequately and you start to think you are fighting against bad genetics. If you start focusing on actually lifting the weight instead of having the weight lift you, you'll be amazed at just how fast you can start building muscle size even if you are a skinny guy right now. Lastly, thin guys will feel guilty about leaving the gym early...even if they have completed all there is to do in their workout. Let me tell you, if you train hard you won't be able to train for long. Don't feel guilty about leaving if your work is done. Lift hard. Lift as heavy as you can with good form and then leave and allow your muscles to recover so you can grow and build bigger muscles.
