Tour of the Moon

05:35
A beautiful 1080p tour of our moon. It's so clear and beautiful you'll want to go there yourself. This virtual tour is based on data from NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter. Enjoy this "new" Moon and its noteworthy destinations. Ancient peoples looked at the moon and saw in its patterns of shadow and light the figures of deities or animals. The Italian scientist, Galileo Galilei, trained his telescope on our celestial companion and saw mountains and valleys much like those on Earth. Scientists today, operating a fleet of spacecraft, are seeing evidence of past events that shaped the lunar landscape, and traces of water and minerals that may one day support a human presence. Here's the Mare Orientale, an impact crater nearly 4 billion years old. The color, coded for elevation, highlights a bulls-eye pattern of concentric rings. Now, let's go down under to the South Pole. The pole sits within the wide rim of the famed Shackleton Crater. Direct sunlight never reaches the crater floor. The Lunar Prospector spacecraft detected higher than normal amounts of hydrogen within the crater, which may indicate the presence of water ice. From here, we travel to the far side of the moon. The South Pole-Aitken Basin is one of the largest and oldest impact features in the solar system. You can see its true size in the elevation data. We are approaching the Tycho Crater. Look closely at the mountainous peak in the center of the crater. That strange boulder near the summit is about 100 meters wide. It might have been left there by an impact. Now on to the Aristarchus Crater, the product of a relatively recent impact. It sits on a plateau that's the site of many transient lunar phenomena, mysterious shifts in color or light on the surface. The Sea of Serenity, and to its right the Sea of Tranquility... these dark regions were laid down by vast lava flows. The Taurus-Littrow Valley is in the highlands to the north. The image is based on a stereoscopic elevation map from Japan's Kaguya spacecraft. Here, now, is the Apollo 17 landing site courtesy of the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter. From this vantage, you can see the lander, the rover, and trails left by rover tires and astronauts. Finally, to the north pole. In the highlands that blanket this region, the sides of myriad craters cast long shadows acros the craggy lunar landscape. There it is. Our moon. Our one and only.

Relaxing Moon Set Over Ocean Beach with Surf Sounds, 1 Hour (Newport, Oregon)

01:00:02
A very relaxing HD video of a moon-set over the pacific ocean, shot over the first pre-dawn morning of 2015. Regarding the video - the actual moon is behind the better moon shot that I added later in software. The original moon in this shot is BEHIND the later added moon from another video, and the reason it does not go down is because I wasn't going to stay up all night to capture it. (That particular video requires purchase.) This video loops about every thirty minutes. The moon is actually going down for 30 minutes behind the later added moon. Please don't leave comments about the "realness" of the video without reading the description first - thanks. Video copyright 2015 J Beer all rights reserved. This Ocean scene was filmed in Newport, Oregon, during the pre-dawn of January 1st, 2015. The aperture was opened to brighten the reflection off the water to be seen as it actually was. In doing so, the moon became too washed out (too bright and fuzzy). So,a full moon is added over the actual 3/4 moon portion of the video frames, which full-moon I had taken previously at an earlier time. (This is the largest video upload ever to date at YouTube/TallSky, of my 500+ video uploads. It is an 8 gigabyte HD video file. Update - I've since uploaded videos larger than 17 gigabytes.) Enjoy! Note: I occasionally use my own footage to help me get a restful nights sleep. Hope this helps some of you. Copyright Warning: This video is the property of TallSky: James Beer. Lyrics : I’m falling out With everything around me now Losing what I used to be And I’m over it They have been to the moon I’m just a caterpillar dead in my cocoon Swept by my mind’s typhoon And I’m all at sea I wish it could be different Wish there was no dampness here Oh we shouldn’t have listened To the angst and the fear I had it all Rivers of gold and forest so tall But I ran my canoe down a waterfall Started a wildfire I wish it could be different Wish there was no dampness here Oh we shouldn’t have listened To the angst and the fear Here I sit in silence as it's rising at me, and I'm afraid that I'm not taking my chances How do I know it's light in the horizon that I see? I've seen questions, but never answers Darkness to me is only water to the sea, I've only ever heard of drought I used to be the one with the grandest of dreams, But how can hope keep believing through the war?

Sea of Tranquility (Mvt. 1 from The Seas of the Moon) by Robert Buckley

04:33
To purchase or for more info go to https://goo.gl/3kwsAJ MusicWorks - Grade 4 Since the beginning of humanity we've been mesmerized by the moon, and what were originally thought to be “seas” appearing on the surface. The “Sea of Tranquility” is probably the best-known of these thanks to the landing of Apollo 11 in 1969. The first movement of Robert Buckley's four-movement suite captures the astronauts' sense of awe and wonder of their journey from lift-off, to weightlessness, to the triumph and jubilation of the lunar landing itself. How does the Moon cause Tides? | #aumsum #kids #education #science #moon

05:07
Tides are the periodic rise and fall of sea level at a particular place. When the sea level rises to its greatest height, it is known as a high tide and when the sea level drops to its lowest height, it is known as a low tide. Tides are primarily caused due to the gravitational force of the moon. Do you know how? Part of the earth facing the moon experiences a stronger gravitational pull towards the moon as compared to the earth's center. So, the part facing the moon is pulled away from the center, creating a bulge and thus, increasing the sea level and causing a high tide. Now, the earth's center experiences a stronger gravitational force towards the moon than the part facing away from the moon. Hence, this part is pulled away from the center, resulting in high tide on the opposite side as well. In addition to this, the places in between the two high tides, where the sea level drops, experience low tides. Also, don't forget to subscribe to our YouTube channel.

SnowGhosts - And The Moon (Black Acre Records)

04:14
Snow Ghosts is a stirring collaboration between the hotly tipped Throwing Snow and recently formed, London-based ensemble, Augustus Ghost. A-side they pillow dive into the drama of 'And The Moon', sounding something like the dreamchild of Clubroot, Björk and Various Production and dominated by Hannah Cartwright's arresting, folksy vocals. The windswept romance of 'Lost Of Sea' follows, perhaps saluting the sepulchral vibe of Zola Jesus in a more subdued, British manner. Flipside, 'Thrice' follows a similar tack to 'Lost At Sea', with added, brooding rave signals flaring out from the gloom before tipping into a killer rollout and the the Fever Ray-esque 'Where The Wild Horses'. Sun, Sea, Moon and Stars. Beautiful nature in Lanzarote.

Seen mainly from our hotel balcony at Sandos Papagayo, one evening the sun set was more stunning than we have ever seen it. The same evening was clear and the stars were just perfect, as if to complete the spectacle the moon shone brightly in the early hours of the following day directly into our room. What Would Happen If The Moon Disappeared

04:04
Our moon is on the move. Each year, it drifts an estimated 1.5 inches further away from Earth. And in the process, Earth's rotation is actually slowing down. What if one night, the moon simply disappeared? Would we miss it? A full moon is on average 14,000 times brighter than the next brightest night-sky object, Venus. So without it, every night would be as dark as a new moon. And star gazing would be spectacular. But by the next morning, you'd begin to realize just how important the moon is for life on Earth. To start, between the sun, Earth's rotation, and the moon, the moon has the largest influence on Earth's tides. Without it, high and low tides would shrink by an estimated 75%. This would jeopardize the lives of many types of crabs, mussels, and sea snails that live in tidal zones and disrupt the diets of larger animals who rely on them for food, threatening entire coastal ecosystems in the process. Within a few decades, we would start to see mass population declines in the sea and on land. One of the largest spawning events in the world occurs in the Great Barrier Reef. Each November in the days following the light of a full moon, coral colonies across the reef — spanning an area larger than the state of New Mexico — release millions of egg and sperm sacs within nearly minutes of one another. Scientists are certain that the full moon plays a role in the timing, but exactly how remains a mystery. On land, animals like these Red Crabs also use lunar cues to reproduce. After living most of their lives in the mountains, millions of adult crabs migrate down to shore. And then, only during the last quarter of the moon, females release their eggs into the sea. Now, the moon may not hold as much sway over human reproduction. But without it, something else we care equally about would change — the weather. Tides and tidal currents help mix cold arctic waters with warmer waters in the tropics. This balances temperatures and stabilizes the climate worldwide. Without the moon, weather forecasts would be practically impossible. The average difference between the hottest and coldest places on Earth could grow to life-threatening extremes. But none of this compares to the biggest change that we would have coming over the next millennia. Right now, Earth tilts on its axis at 23.5º mostly due to the moon's gravity. If the moon disappeared, Earth's axis would wobble between anywhere from 10 to 45º. Some experts estimate that Jupiter could help keep Earth's tilt from reeling completely out of control. But even just an extra 10º tilt could wreak havoc on the climate and seasons. In the past, Earth's tilt has changed by about 1-2º, which scientists think could have caused Ice Ages in the past. It's hard to know what a 10º or 45º tilt would do but probably nothing good for most life on Earth. The moon isn't just imperative for life on Earth today. Experts believe that it may also have played a key role in the formation of life more than 3.5 billion years ago. Turns out, the moon isn't just a beacon of light in the night sky. Its existence is crucial to the delicate balancing act that makes life here possible. How The Moon Controls Biological Cycles

SUBSCRIBE! ►► http://bit.ly/iotbs_sub ↓↓↓ More info and sources below ↓↓↓ Organisms of all shapes and sizes synchronize their behaviors using biological clocks. Some keep pace with the daily rising and setting sun using circadian rhythms. Others use annual cycles or the changing seasons as their cue. But many animals use moonlight and Earth’s lunar cycle to run their biological clock. Do humans do the same thing, with things like menstrual cycles? This week we take a look at living by moonlight. To purchase or for more info go to https://goo.gl/U6sqr6 MusicWorks - Grade 4 From Robert Buckley's grandly cinematic suite describing impressions of the seas of the moon, Foaming Sea (2nd movement) was inspired by the composer watching the ocean during a violent storm with waves exploding and crashing. The sense of excitement and exhilaration eventually leads to the calm after the storm, as turbulent darkness gives way to light. HL04005561 HL04005562

Why can't we see the Apollo lunar landers on the Moon from Earth ?

06:32
When you look up at a full moon, just remember that somewhere on the lunar face, the remains of Apollo 11, 12, 14, 15, 16 and 17 along with 8 unmanned Russian Luna missions and 5 pre-Apollo unmanned American Surveyor missions are all still there….. silently looking back….. unless of course, you’re a NASA non-believer. Patreon : https://www.patreon.com/curiousdroid Paypal.me : https://www.paypal.me/curiousdroid You can now translate this and other curious droid videos, see my video about it here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xLPVgIytKyg so… why can’t we see these from the earth, why can’t we train our best telescopes on to the moon’s surface and see them there exactly where we left them the best part of 50 years ago. Well, there a bit of a problem…. and that is that the moon is 384,000 kilometres or 238,000 miles away and the landers and all the other things left behind are just few meters across. To give you an Idea how difficult a problems that it is….. it’s like looking for an object the size of a coin from 1000 miles away or the equivalent from New York to Florida…. so you going to need a pretty serious telescope. One telescope that springs to mind is the Hubble space telescope, after all if it can see galaxy’s billons of light years away then it should be able to see the Apollo landers easily…. shouldn’t it ?? Well, as with many things to do with space it’s not that simple. Yes, the Hubble space telescope was indeed designed to look at very faint objects at astronomical distances but those objects are clusters of galaxy’s trillions of millions across, it was not designed the take high resolution images of small objects at fairly close ranges in astronomical terms like to the moon. The problem is down to the resolution of the images that the telescope can produce and that is limited by the laws of physics. The resolution determines the size the smallest Picture Element is or pixel in the image. The higher the resolution more of the fine detail in an image can be seen. In a telescope, the bigger the mirror, the more the magnification, so the closer the object will appear but at the very large magnifications the image is also affected by the wavelength of the light itself. The shorter the wavelength like ultraviolet light, the finer the detail that can be captured and the resolution increases but in visible light as we go from blue through green to red, the wavelength increases and the resolution is decreased. The Hubble has a mirror which is 2.4 meters in diameter, that was the largest that could fit in to the Space Shuttle when it was placed in to orbit. This gives it a single pixel resolution in ultra violet light of about 43 meters across on the moon’s surface, anything smaller than 43 meters across will just be hidden in a single dot which cannot be resolved any further, in fact we need really 2 pixels or more to make out anything at all...... The Blue Angel Lounge - As Cold As The Moon

The Blue Angel Lounge - As Cold As The Moon; A Sea Of Trees (2014) Lyrics: Now I'll tell you how you are You're as cold as the moon. Afraid of showing love Like a ghost hiding in the dark. Every time you look, I could die a hundred times And you don't know what is missing. Is it really so wrong to express yourself to me? Will I ever get the chance to look inside your fear? If you was cold, nothing warm is clear You sent me home to hide your tears. And now I broke, cause you don't want to show me how you feel! Oh, oh, oh! Is it really so wrong to express yourself to me? Will I ever get the chance to look inside your fear? The Blue Angel Lounge on Bandcamp: http://theblueangellounge.bandcamp.com/

Blood moon leaves vehicles stranded in sea after drivers caught out by high tides

01:27
Fancy a winter holiday to North Korea? Kim Jong-un builds £130m airport to lure tourists Two vehicles became stuck in the sea after drivers were caught out by high tides sparked by last night's blood moon. Pictures of the stunning space spectacle show the moon at the point when it comes closest to Earth. But as beautiful as it might be, it has caused problems for a few motorists, who were stranded. A high tide caused by the gravitational pull of the moon, swept over the cars leaving them stranded at sea. One car, a Mitsubishi Shogun, was recovered by the search and rescue team, but the second vehicle couldn't be dragged out until the high tide had receded. The owner of the car apparently got into difficulty whilst trying to launch his boat near Burnham-on-sea, Somerset. Two other motorists also got stranded during further high tides over the weekend. This weekend, the supermoon also coincided with the Lunar eclipse, making the moon appear large and bright red.
