It spans over 60 countries and will cost over a trillion dollars. The plan is to make it easier for the world to trade with China, by funding roads, railways, pipelines, and other infrastructure projects in Asia and Africa. China is loaning trillions of dollars to any country that's willing to participate and it's been a big hit with the less democratic countries in the region. This makes the BRI a risky plan as well. But China is pushing forward because its goals are not strictly economic, they're also geopolitical. To truly understand the international conflicts and trends shaping our world you need a big-picture view. Analysing aircraft Flight Paths correctly. Flat Earth or Globe? Where do they make sense?

08:42
See my follow up on aircraft emergency diversions here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JAsEVdhAss0 I see many Flat Earth sites trying to understand why the flight paths are curved on a Flat Map. The answer is simple - because a Flat Map is a distortion of the true shape of the Earth which is a Globe. Flight paths plotted accurately on a Globe make perfect sense.

ROUTE PLANNING on ECDIS, Adjust Waypoint, Turn Radius, XTL, Planned Speed, Zone Time. #aviorish

15:31
Procedure for passage planning on ECDIS - a brief guide to navigators at sea  The principles of voyage planning are the same with ECDIS as with paper based navigation: Second Officer creates the draft plan Master studies entire route, suggests improvements and eventually approves the final plan All deck officers require briefing on the plan. Appraisal :The first step is to broadly consider the routing and consider factors affecting the voyage: Is ENC coverage adequate? Are ENC appropriate scale/up to date? Is Admiralty Information Overlay available? Do any T&P notices apply? ENC safety information – README file NTM’s weekly Nautical Publications Consider Limitations of ENC (accuracy/source data) Planning : When planning a route on ECDIS, always consider ENC display settings and as with paper, use best scale (1:1). Take time to check and scan routes. It is advisable to first conduct automatic route checking, adjusting the route each time to correct the alerts generated. You should then manually scroll along the entire route to visually check for any hazards. IT TAKES TIME TO CHECK A ROUTE PROPERLY! Remember potential limitations of route planning and checking on small scale ENCs. Execution :The principles of good seamanship and maintaining a proper lookout apply equally when navigating electronically. Plan to use all available sources of information. Safety settings should be adjusted throughout the voyage to reflect the demands of the situation. For example, when coastal navigating, vectors, cross-track corridors (XTC) and guard zones should all be reduced. Settings such as safety contours and safety depths should be set higher for ocean passages, to provide early warning of landfall, hazards or the possibility of increased traffic. Monitoring :Do not rely solely on automatic alarms. You should always seek to prove the ECDIS wrong, rather than assuming it is correct. Use tools such as radar overlay (RIO) to assist with monitoring. An accurate RIO provides a "million point fix" and allows excellent real-time monitoring, but do not rely solely upon it. Normal radar limitations still apply. Do not rely solely on GNSS input such as GPS. Cross check frequently with other systems such as LORAN-C and manual means, such as visual/radar fixing. Ensure that appropriate display settings are applied for Coastal/Ocean and Day/Night navigation. Use profiles if the functionality exists. Perils of Over reliance Over-reliance on a single means of navigation has always been wrong – this remains true with electronic systems, including ECDIS. What are some of the perils of relying solely on ECDIS? Some issues to consider: Screen fixation - tendency to become absorbed in an electronic display rather than looking out of the window. Failure to cross check – tendency to assume that the displayed position is correct without verifying position integrity by some other means Alarm management and appropriate use of tools - e.g. failure to adjust settings appropriate to situation, resulting in too much or too little information.  Specifically, over reliance can be contributed by the following: Chart survey data: date, type and its reliability Cartography- origin, compilation and update history of chart. Check reliability. Selection of chart data, data type, ENC limitations and scale selection. How to optimise ? Route planning - vessel data and corridor widths Additional perils of over reliance: Measurement settings (distance/speed/depth) Chart symbol selections – simplified/traditional Correct viewing scale – clutter/SCAMIN? Orientation of display Number of depth shades Select/de-select shallow water pattern Dependency on Traditional Navigation Techniques include following: Radar overlay parallel indexing position fixing, including radar ranges, visual and clearing bearings track history dead reckoning knowledge of chart symbols Integration of Traditional Navigation Techniques These techniques remain valid and ECDIS provides a means to integrate them. It's worth considering: cross checking/variety of means integrating ECDIS use into navigation function looking out of window making sense of presentation maintain situational awareness at all times Main features of shipborne ECDIS North up/heads capability of ecdis: In the normal north up mode the ship moves across the static chart until it approaches the edge of the screen when a new section of the chart is automatically displayed. In heads up the vessel remains in the center of the display while the chart moves underneath. The vessel always appears up on the display with the image automatically rotated to the correct orientation, thereby matching the scene outside the window.  Radar overlay – A navigation system which superimposes live radar video output over ecdis. It provides a scan-converted output for display, automatically scaled to suit the displayed chart. The transparency can be adjusted so that the ch

Initiating the descent at the right moment is one the things/procedures most flight students and even experienced pilots struggle with from time to time. Nowadays airliners are equipped with all sorts of helpful tools showing you when to start your descent but this systems still can´t anticipate the mood of the air traffic controller, which can always interfere with your descent. So watch the video and look out for some great and helpful thumb rules which will make your descent planning a lot easier. Thank you very much for your time! I hope you enjoy this basic introduction about descent planning! Wishing you all the best! Route planning at Indian Ocean - 2013 Mar 3 -Guo Chuan solo non-stop circumnavigation

02:03
Guo Chuan said: Today is Mar 3, the 107th day since departure. I have been sailing in strong wind and big wave for the last week. Now the wind speed is reducing to 20-25knots/hour and I am sailing downwind with fast speed. I've been sailing eastward towards home in the past week, from 40 degree south to 26 degree south, about 7000 miles. The weather becomes warm, the sea water temprature is 24 degree Celsius. It is dry as well so that the boat looks clean. Now I will show you the route in the next week, hopefully I will finish the sailing at Indian Ocean in one week.

2013-05-26 Route Planning Palm Beach to Newport Offshore

14:52
This video shows the process of planning an offshore route from Palm Beach, FL to Newport, RI. We will try to ride the Gulf Stream current to pick up some speed. Route planning was done using Nobeltec Trident charting software. Note that early in the video the camera is not perfectly positioned so you can't see the toolbar on the left side of the screen, but just trust me, it's there! Note to viewers - this is intended as a more technical video to show how a trip is planned. It's not a cruising video so if you are looking for actual underway footage, skip this one!
