Villa and residential developments off the western coast of India, in the smallest Indian state of Goa. Goa is India's smallest state by area and the fourth smallest by population. Located in West India in the region known as the Konkan, it is bounded by the state of Maharashtra to the north, and by Karnataka to the east and south, while the Arabian Sea forms its western coast. Goa is India's richest state with a GDP per capita two and a half times that of the country as a whole. It was ranked the best placed state by the Eleventh Finance Commission for its infrastructure and ranked on top for the best quality of life in India by the National Commission on Population based on the 12 Indicators. Panaji is the state's capital, while Vasco da Gama is the largest city. The historic city of Margao still exhibits the cultural influence of the Portuguese, who first landed in the early 16th century as merchants and conquered it soon thereafter. Goa is a former Portuguese province; the Portuguese overseas territory of Portuguese India existed for about 450 years until it was annexed by India in 1961. Goa is visited by large numbers of international and domestic tourists each year for its beaches, places of worship and world heritage architecture. It also has rich flora and fauna, owing to its location on the Western Ghats range, which is classified as a biodiversity hotspot. Russia's rough Norwegian sea coast

Murmansk, the metropolis on the Barents Sea, is anything but Russia's cold north. There's always something going on here, for example the Olympic Polar Games. Ice surfing and ice swimming, reindeer racing, the first atom ice breaker in the history of the world, a corner shop in ice and snow, endearing village school lessons and the singing Norwegian Sea Fleet - arctic lifestyle far away, north of the polar circle.

For tens of thousands of years, the Jarawa have been self-sufficient hunter-gatherers, living in harmony with nature on India’s Andaman Islands. But their way of life was turned upside down with the mass arrival of tourists at the start of the 2000s. Disturbing reports document "human safaris", sexual abuse of women, as well as the introduction of alcohol and tobacco. Our reporter went to meet this population, who risk dying out. Deep in the Indian Ocean, a few hundred kilometres from India, the Andaman Islands archipelago has become the El Dorado of the Indian middle class. Each year, thousands of tourists enjoy the coral beaches of this little corner of paradise on Earth with its stunning landscape. It is also a strategic location, where the government has chosen to build the Indian Ocean’s largest port. But this spectacular economic development comes at the expense of the Afro-Asian peoples who live in the archipelago and who are among the last primitive tribes on the planet. Ships Collide off Mumbai, India Coast

01:17
Off the coast of Mumbai, two Panamanian cargo ships collided over the weekend. Now, teams from the Indian Navy and the Coast Guard attempt to contain an oil spill. Here's that story. Teams from the Indian Navy and the Coast Guard are attempting to contain an oil spill off the coast of Mumbai after two Panamanian cargo ships collided over the weekend. All crewmembers have been rescued. One ship, which was carrying a cargo of diesel and lubricant oil capsized, triggering an oil slick. While efforts are underway to contain the damage, officials say oil was still leaking from the cargo and the slick was likely to spread farther because of the tide and windy conditions. Scores of containers flung overboard were making navigation difficult and efforts were underway to secure them. Fisherman fear for their future. [Hemant Kohli, Fisherman]: "They are saying don't put your nets (in the sea) for four days because water has been contaminated by oil. Now what will we do?" Some of the containers from the ship are already close to shore. The Mumbai port, one of the busiest in the country, has suspended operations. Indian Navy Vs Indian Coast Guard - Difference Between Indian Navy And Indian Coast Guard (Hindi)

05:12
What Is The Difference Between Indian Navy And Indian Coast Guard? - Career, Role, Objectives, Differences All Explained (Hindi) For those who want to have a career at sea often have one question in mind – Indian Navy or Indian Coast Guard? Though careers at both these fields have almost the same base, there are several differences that are to be known before choosing a career at sea. - Indian Navy : The Indian Navy is the naval branch of the Indian Armed Forces. The President of India is the Supreme Commander of the Indian Navy. The Chief of Naval Staff, a four-star Admiral, commands the navy. The primary objective of the navy is to safeguard the nation's maritime borders, and in conjunction with other Armed Forces of the union, act to deter or defeat any threats or aggression against the territory, people or maritime interests of India, both in war and peace. Through joint exercises, goodwill visits and humanitarian missions, including disaster relief, Indian Navy promotes bilateral relations between nations. - Indian Coast Guard : The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) protects India's maritime interests and enforces maritime law, with jurisdiction over the territorial waters of India, including its contiguous zone and exclusive economic zone. The Indian Coast Guard was formally established on 18 August 1978 by the Coast Guard Act, 1978 of the Parliament of India as an independent Armed force of India. It operates under the Ministry of Defence. The Coast Guard works in close cooperation with the Indian Navy, the Department of Fisheries, the Department of Revenue (Customs) and the Central and State police forces. When people consider joining the military, many times they get confused about the differences between branches, especially when those branches have missions that, at a glance, seem similar. In the case of the Navy and the Coast Guard, they both have boats and airplanes and operate around the water. So how are they different? Well, here are five major ways: 1. Size. 2. Assets. 3. Mission/Objectives. 4. Career. 5. Duty stations. ⭐For More Defence News & Updates, Visit ► https://www.defencexp.com/⭐ Hello Defence Lovers, Defence Gyaan Series ke is episode No. 87 mai humne apko Indian Coast Guard And Indian Navy ke baare mai bataya hai, Hume Umeed hai ki apko yeh episode pasand ayega. Salt-making on India's west coast

23:34
A story about the salt workers of the Rann of Kutch, working under very difficult conditions in India's salt desert, in Gujarat state. The Little Rann of Kutch is a salt marsh located in the Western Indian State of Gujarat in India. Far from being known around the world, even most people in India are not aware of its existence. There are no roads in the Rann. To travel here, one has to make ones way through its gigantic mud flats. This salt-bearing wilderness spreads over 5,000 sq kms and is also known as 'Survey Number Zero' because no land survey has been conducted here since the end of British rule in India. Just 600 kms from Mumbai, the commercial capital of India, this land is unknown to most. With its unique geography of a vast desolate landscape, it makes for a very distinct forest without trees. Despite its bleak countryside it is an important ecological terrain for wildlife due to its rich biodiversity. Comprising of thousands of kilometers of barren land, the Little Rann provides a safe haven to a shocking number of local and migratory birds, the endangered wild ass who's only home now is the Little Rann, and other rare and beautiful creatures. The other living creatures found in this arid land are the Agariyas or the Salt Farmers. Surrounded by mounds of tones of white salt crystals, one can easily spot them in the middle of the Rann. In the monsoon, the Arabian Sea invades the Gulf of Kutch, blanketing the muddy flatland under knee--deep water for four months hence making it saline. A set of notifications for the Wild Ass Sanctuary in the Little Rann of Kutch was issued in 1973 under the Gujarat Wild Animals and Wild Birds Protection Act. This is what sowed the seeds of the present conflict in the Rann. It was proposed that the Sanctuary would take up an area of 4840.899 sq. kms. The second notification came in 1978 under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, taking the total area of the sanctuary to 4,953 sq. kms and subsequently covering even more area in The Rann. Ever since the sanctuary was declared a bio-reserve, the salt farmers have been asked to vacate their saltpans, as their profession is supposedly a hindrance to the well being of the Sanctuary. Legally speaking, any economic activity inside a bio reserve is also prohibited. The fishermen too have begun facing similar problems. The wild ass has flourished in the Little Rann over the years, say the activists. According to the Gujarat Ecological Education and research Foundation, the population of the wild ass has been increasing gradually since the 1990's and a 2010 survey stated, "There is no human-animal conflict. The salt workers, who have lived here for centuries, have co-existed peacefully with the wildlife". Salt farmers cannot establish any legal right over the land which is now included in the Wild Ass Sanctuary, without any official survey or document. This has proved a threat to their livelihood for nearly three decades now. In an endeavor to help the Agariyas, supporting NGO's have dug out a historic 'farmaan' or ordinance issued by Mughal emperor Aurangzeb from the 17th century in which the saltpan workers find a mention. For 8 months after the monsoon, the farmers live in the middle of the desert putting up with the chilly cold of the winter and the crippling heat of the summer. The salt they produce is "cultivated salt" which is a painstaking, tiresome process, as compared to the other salt making techniques used around the world today. Why do they continue with this technique? Simply because it is the only method they know. For nearly 600 years their ancestors have been producing salt in this region. Herein lies the exploitation factor: the merchants realize their dependence on this profession, and heavily underpay for months of manual labour in extreme climatic conditions. Barring certain patches, the soil in the Little Rann is terribly saline, and the production of most other crops is nearly impossible. This footage is part of the professionally-shot broadcast stock footage archive of Wilderness Films India Ltd., the largest collection of imagery from South Asia. The yacht of an Indian sailor was seen stranded at sea off the coast of Australia before he was rescued on Monday. It's a tale of survival from one of the most remote areas on the planet Solo yachtsman Abhilash Tomy has finally been rescued after getting stranded two-thousand miles off Western Australia's coastline. He was participating in the gruelling Golden Globe round-the-world race when a storm hit on Friday (September 21). 70-knot winds and 45-foot waves flipped and badly damaged his boat and back, leaving him unable to move for nearly three-days. Tomy's satellite phone was broken, so it was thanks to a texting unit with limited battery-life that he could mayday for help. AUSTRALIAN MARITIME SAFETY AUTHORITY CO-ORDINATOR OF SEARCH AND RESCUE OFFICER, PHIL GADEN, SAYING: "The yacht's very badly damaged, it's been dismasted, a wave could push one of those damaged masts into the vessel and compromise its integrity." Rescue teams from around the world went to get him, but it was a French vessel that reached him first on Monday (September 24). It was very different picture before the 30-thousand mile race started that would have been his second time competing (SOUNDBITE) (English) INDIAN SAILOR, ABHILASH TOMY, SAYING: "I am very relieved to be at the start of the Golden Globe Race." Light house on Kerala coast, India

00:59
Light House Beach located on the southernmost part of Kovalam beach town by the Arabian Sea in Thiruvananthapuram city, Kerala, India. The southernmost beach, the Lighthouse Beach is the one most frequented by tourists, Lighthouse Beach got its name due to the old Vizhinjam Lighthouse located on a rocky promontory here. Its intermittent beams at night render the beach with an unearthly charm. Kovalam is a beach town by the Arabian Sea in Thiruvananthapuram city, Kerala, India, located around 16 km from the city center. Kovalam means a grove of coconut trees and true to its name the village offers an endless sight of coconut trees. It is also known as the paradise of the south. Kovalam has three beaches separated by rocky outcroppings in its 17 km coastline, the three together form the famous crescent of the Kovalam beach. The larger of the beaches is called Light House Beach for its 35 metre high light house which towers over it atop Kurumkal hillock. The second largest one is Hawah Beach named thus for the topless European women who used to throng there. It was the first topless beach in India. However topless bathing is banned now except in private coves owned by resorts. Visitors frequent these two beaches. The northern part of the beach is known as Samudra Beach in tourism parlance. A large promontory separates this part from the southern side. Samudra Beach doesn't have tourists thronging there or hectic business. The local fishermen ply their trade on this part. The sands on the beaches in Kovalam are partially black in colour due to the presence of ilmenite and Monazite. The normal tourist season is from September to May. Ashoka beach is also the part of Kovalam beach. Indian Coast Guard protects India's maritime borders

02:09
Indian Coast Guard protects India's maritime borders during International Fleet Review in Andhra Pradesh. The Hon’ble President of India being the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, once in his/her term, reviews the Indian Naval (IN) Fleet as part of the ‘President’s Fleet Review’ (PFR). This review aims at assuring the country of the Indian Navy’s preparedness, high morale and discipline. Many leading nations of the world use the opportunity provided by the Fleet Review to enhance mutual trust and confidence with their maritime neighbours and partners by inviting their ships to participate in the review. Normally called ‘International Fleet Review’ (IFR), this event then allows the host nation an occasion to display its maritime capabilities and the ‘bridges of friendship’ and trust it has built with other maritime nations. The last IFR was conducted in January 2001, off Mumbai with participation from 29 countries. This earned the country widespread appreciation and goodwill. A Naval Fleet Review is a long-standing tradition followed by navies all over the world. It is a grand occasion when every operational ship is spruced up, proudly displaying its crest and its company in a spirit of loyalty and allegiance to its sovereign and the state. The idea of a Review was perhaps conceived as a show of naval might or an inspection of readiness for battle at sea. It still has the same connotation, but assembling of warships without any belligerent intentions is now the norm in modern times. Later reviews were used as a celebratory demonstration for victories in battle, for a coronation or on the occasion of the visit of royal guests. On many occasions, ships have sailed across the seas to participate in fleet reviews of friendly nations. While India boasts of a maritime tradition dating back to Vedic times, we do not have any authentic reports of fleet reviews of the past except for a mention of two influential women demanding a fleet review during the supremacy of the Marathas.
