iPad Pro and Apple Pencil for Fashion Design and Pattern Drafting

14:38
Yes I did figure out how to rename the file right after I uploaded the video. Can you imagine sitting on a bus and drafting a pattern straight on your iPad? Or waiting at the doctors office and getting some design work done without having to bring a laptop and a tablet with you? Hi! I'm super excited about this video because in it I will be demoing just a few of the things the iPad pro is capable of, along with a short tutorial on how to digitize the basic bodice block with the Graphic app available in the App Store. I briefly go over the Concepts app as well, a drawing app that I use for fashion sketches. The main focus here is showing off what the iPad pro can do in terms of digitizing and drafting. Get the Concepts app for free, or the pro version for $7.99, and the Graohic app, formerly known as iDraw, for $8.99. Stay tuned as I learn more about drafting with the iPad pro and it's available apps.

Predictions - Future fashion & wearable technology (ISCF - Clean Growth)

03:52
This Future Fashion film uses examples of what currently exists in fashion tech to illustrate how the seemingly impossible is already being achieved, and what this means for the future. From a current invention – a cloak that changes colour and pattern in response to the weather, to a cloak that in twenty to thirty years’ time could make us invisible! Presenter Emily Honeywell, from Innovate UK’s IC tomorrow programme, expands on this theme: “to look 20 years into the future, it is hardly possible to think what our 'wearables' will be like. We are now at the point where technology is moving at such a speed that it's capacity to enhance human capabilities and create magical design almost outruns our imagination!” Welcome to the future of wearable tech! Technology outrunning our imagination? So where do we go from here? It appears that we are now at the point technological progression is at such a speed that its capacity to enhance our human capabilities almost outruns our imagination around applications. No matter how outrageous we are in our visions for the future, we are at a very exciting time now where the gap between tech and our imaginations has significantly narrowed. We are now at the point we are beginning to make our wildest wearable dreams come true. Check out our blog on fashion technology and behind the scenes photos here: https://innovateuk.blog.gov.uk/2015/11/06/future-fashion-technology-that-outruns-our-imaginations/ Subscribe to our YouTube channel for more exciting innovations here: https://www.youtube.com/user/Innovateuk

The future of fashion: Pulp-It

04:15
Scientists and designers in Sweden and Britain have created a wearable ‘paper’. The inexpensive 21st-century fabric has an intentionally short lifespan, and can be recycled or industrially composted. Made from unbleached wood pulp and other bio-based materials, the non-woven paper is finished using natural dyes, laser surfacing, and efficient ultrasonic construction. Energy and chemicals are reduced at every stage. With automated production, consumers could customise each garment’s colour, pattern and shape. Acknowledging that disposable fashion forms part of most wardrobes, this new material offers a more sustainable approach to fast fashion. vam.ac.uk/FashionedfromNature #FashionedfromNature

How To Make A T-Shirt From Design To Manufacturing Process

11:12
In this video I show you how to make a t-shirt from the design to manufacturing process. It starts with designing a shirt, pattern making, sewing, cutting and then goes into large production manufacturing. More from Bella Canvas: http://bit.ly/2t9Guo6 When starting a clothing line it's important to know the process, and this video is a great way to learn what it takes to create a t-shirt from scratch. Sign up to the newsletter and receive free downloads to help grow your business + enter to win upcoming giveaways: http://bit.ly/Apparel-Download The following steps can be applied to make any product, so feel free to jot down notes and reference this section for future use. Step 1: T-Shirt Design The first step to making a t-shirt involves the design sketch. Create a sketch that depicts the angles and details you'd like the final shirt to have. It doesn't have to be super fancy, as long as you can show what you need. Designing a shirt with the end goal in mind helps the pattern maker know what you are going for. Thanks you Torey Lewitz for joining us. Step 2: Pattern Making Once the designs are completed, you will consult with a pattern maker to bring your clothing line to life. The pattern maker will take your designs and create “patterns” which are the pieces that will be cut and sewn together. Step 3: Sample Cutting Once the patterns are completed, they are printing on a plotter that creates the outline for the sample cutter. The person in charge of cutting the sample will follow the guides to ensure the pieces are cut to the right specifications. Castle Notches allow the person in charge of sewing to close the product up right. Step 4: Sewing The T-Shirt After the fabric is cut out, it is ready to be sewn. The cut pieces are now the shape of the patterns and multiple sewing machines are used to finish the design. The final outcome is hopefully what you envisioned. But more than likely it won’t be the final fit, so you will repeat the process until you are happy with the size, fit and shape of your apparel line. Step 5: Mass Production Cutting As soon as the shirt or apparel design you created is approved, the patterns are finalized and sent into the production process. John Chacon Head Of Production walks us through his process. Step 6: Mass Production Sewing Once the pieces are all cut out, they are sent to the sewing factory. The factory is given the cut fabric and the head of production is in charge of making sure everyone knows what their role is. Step 7: Order Fulfillment/ Clothing Line Distribution The last step in this video is the order fulfillment and distribution of the finished clothing. As a clothing business you also have to think about how you will provide quicker shipping, handle returns and manage employees. Randy Pinter Head of Warehouse Distribution drops the knowledge on what it takes to run this facility. Re-Making Patterns: An Exhibition of 3D Printed Fashion

In June 2015, Eyebeam and Shapeways brought together fifteen fashion designers, engineers, and media artists from across North America and Asia to build skills and collaboratively design at the intersection of fashion and technology. After a challenging and rigorous class taught by expert practitioners and artists in the fields of fashion, 3D modeling, and 3D printing, five groups of artists produced brand new pieces that break away from conventional dress in favor of conceiving garments and accessories that do not yet exist. Combining traditional fashion techniques and emerging technologies, each piece functions as an extension or augmentation of the body, exploring concepts such as second skin, performative textiles, as well as responsive and kinetic structures. And in order to secure a good job, it is very important for a student to get enough training. He/she should be a creative person with exemplary artistic skills. Also a course in English, business, maths or sewing can be used as a proper foundation. If you are too ambitious, a simple degree might not suffice. Masters degree and certificate programmes are also available so that you can educate yourself enough to start a prosperous and bright career in fashion designing. There are several careers you can find in this field itself. Some include sketchers, cutters and pattern makers, sewers and fit technicians, head designers, specialty designs and of course the trend researchers. Other career opportunities you can explore in the field of fashion include fashion marketing, journalism, public relations, performing arts, photography, management and merchandising. To become a successful fashion designer, it is very important to get a diploma or degree at first. It might be easy to enrol yourself in a decent university, but it is often difficult to pay the course fees since it isnt inexpensive after all. However, there are a couple of big universities that offer scholarships to students who have talent and are keen enough to show some effort. India has also recognized fashion designing recently. Some of the best institutions that offer this course include National Institute of Fashion Technology (Delhi), Vogue Institute of Fashion Technology (Bangalore), Symbiosis Institute of Design (Pune), and National Institute of Design (Ahmedabad). A few international colleges are also offering certificate and diploma courses on fashion designing. Some of the bright institutions falling under this category are: • University of North Texas (United States of America) • Melbourne School of Fashion (Australia) • University of Westminster (United Kingdom) • Raffles Design Institute (Singapore) • Paris College of Art (France) • Ryerson University School of Fashion (Canada) Once you have graduated from fashion school, prepare a resume with all achievements enlisted in detail. You can always apply to PR firms if you want to work with celebrities or simply try your luck at a fashion production house. Some universities offer job opportunities for students too. So look out for them as well. For more jobs & career information and daily job alerts, subscribe to our channel and support us. What will people wear in the future? | The Economist

Innovation in fashion is sparking radical change. In the future clothes could be computers, made with materials designed and grown in a lab. Click here to subscribe to The Economist on YouTube: https://econ.st/2xvTKdy A new wave of innovation is fueling a radical change in fashion. Wearable technology, data, automation and lab-grown materials will have a major impact on what people will be wearing in the future. Since the birth of sewing and weaving, technology has always led developments in fashion. The Industrial Revolution mechanized manufacturing enabling mass production. In the 1960s synthetic materials like polyester took off, creating new possibilities for fashion. Now the convergence of new technologies is opening up previously unimaginable possibilities. Self-styled fashion scientist Dr Amanda Parkes is in the vanguard of the industry's latest reinvention. She heads up innovation at FT labs, a venture capital firm that invests primarily in disruptive fashion tech startups. Among these startups the race is on to find the next generation of renewable materials that can be grown in a lab. Traditional silk is produced from insect larvae that form cocoons, most commonly silkworms. But rather than relying on these insects bolt threads is creating silk in test tubes. Bio fabricated materials remove the need for animals and insects and they are a more sustainable and efficient way of producing raw materials. Other companies are creating leather alternatives. Rather than using animals scientists are creating bio fabricated materials from pineapple leaves and even mushrooms. The convergence of fashion and technology also provides opportunities to transform not just clothes but the people wearing them. Myant is a company that's pioneering the creation of clothing that can monitor your every move. So called smart fabrics are being touted as the next frontier of wearable technology. Yarns are paired with electronic sensors so that essential data can be captured from the human body. To create clothing that can monitor the wearer's health and fitness, Myant has brought together teams of people that have not traditionally worked under the same roof. Smart fabrics could radically change consumers relationships with the clothes they wear but as technology increases the pace of change, how can the industry keep track of what consumers really want? Francesca Muston is the head of retail at WGSN, the world's leading fashion forecasting agency. The staff here use big data to analyze political, social, and environmental trends in order to predict the hot new looks of tomorrow. Technology is driving an explosion in consumer choice as well as the bewildering array of clothing design and creation. To keep up the industry is also turning to technology. Machine learning technologies are now central to fashion forecasting, quickly spotting patterns among the ever-growing volume of data. From biotechnology to demographic shifts predicting trends is no longer an art it's becoming a science.
