Oracle LEAST Function

02:46
https://www.databasestar.com/oracle-greatest/ The Oracle LEAST function is a useful function, but I don’t think it’s very well understood. It returns the least or smallest value in a set of values. You can provide the values, and use numbers or text values. The syntax for the Oracle LEAST function is: LEAST(expr1 [, expr_n]) The expr1 is the first expression to use for your comparison. Expr_n is one or more expressions to use in the comparison, separated by commas. This is optional. So how is LEAST calculated? If the parameters are numeric, the LEAST function finds the smallest number. If the parameters are characters, the function finds the earliest value if they were sorted alphabetically (using their character values). What data type is returned? It depends on the parameters you provide. It could be the same as the parameters you provide, or VARCHAR2 if the parameters are all characters. You can also use the LEAST function with dates. It’s the opposite of the GREATEST function. For more information on the LEAST function, including the SQL used in this video and the examples, read the related post here: https://www.databasestar.com/oracle-greatest/

Oracle CEIL Function

01:56
https://www.databasestar.com/oracle-ceil/ The Oracle CEIL function, short for “ceiling”, will return the smallest integer value greater than the specified number. In other words, it rounds up to the nearest whole number. It’s the opposite of the FLOOR function, which rounds down. The syntax of CEIL is: CEIL(number) The number parameter can be any numeric data type. The CEIL function will return a number in the same data type as the parameter. So, you can use CEIL with decimal numbers, which is actually where CEIL works best. You can use it with whole numbers too. It won’t show an error, it just might display the same value as provided (e.g. CEIL(8) would be 8). You can also use functions inside CEIL. For example, CEIL(SUM(salary)) will SUM all of the salary values, and then round them up to the nearest whole number. Like with all functions, the Oracle CEIL function can also use column aliases. So, instead of having your column labelled “CEIL(8.12)” or “CEIL(salary)”, you can label your column “salary_rounded” or something that makes more sense. The CEIL function is similar to the ROUND function. However, ROUND will round up or down, where CEIL will always round up. The TRUNC function will also do some kind of rounding, but it removes decimals from a number which may cause it to “round” down. For more information, including the code used in the examples, read the related article here: https://www.databasestar.com/oracle-ceil/

Oracle SQL Tutorial 7 - Normalization - Database Design Primer 4

20:38
The database normal forms are used to normalize a database. What does it mean to normalize a database? It means to break it up into multiple tables to prevent redundant, conflicting, and bad data. The three normal forms are 1nf, 2nf, and 3nf. These stand for first normal form, second normal form, and third normal form. There are other normal forms, such as Boyce Codd normal form (BCNF), but the first 3 normal forms are the ones that are really important to know. The normal forms depend on one another. It is kind of like a ladder. In order to be in 2nd normal form, you must first be in first normal form. In order to be in 3rd normal form, you must first be in 2nd normal form. First normal form is all about individuality and giving data its space. Each column must be atomic...that is, in the smallest indivisible piece. Each value for the column must also only contain one value. To fix first normal form when you have a column violation, break the column into multiple columns. To fix first normal form when you have data violation, break the column into a new table and have a column that references the old table. Second normal form is all about partial dependencies. A partial dependency is when a column only depends on part of the primary key. This is often seen when you have an intermediary table in a many to many relationship (as a reminder, we break up many to many relationships into one to many relationships with intermediary tables in between). The solution to get rid of partial dependencies is to put the data in the table to where the column depends entirely on the key. If you do not already have a table that fits the rule, you can consider creating one. Third normal form is all about transitive dependencies. This is when a column in a table depends on another column instead of depending solely on the primary key. The solution to this is to take the column that is directly dependent on the primary key and bring it into its own table. Then, you can use foreign keys to connect the tables. This video concluded with a noble speech on how database design is very subjective. Thus is so because as we normalize more and more, the design becomes more and more complex. If we get to the point where we have hundreds of tables for a relatively small database, we can really hurt performance and increase risk of mistakes. Hopefully this video was helpful to everyone. Grouping Functions in SQL Query Like AVG,SUM,MAX,MIN

04:03
SQL COUNT (): This function returns the number of rows in the table that satisfies the condition specified in the WHERE condition. If the WHERE condition is not specified, then the query returns the total number of rows in the table. For Example: If you want the number of emps in a particular department, the query would be: SELECT COUNT (*) FROM emp WHERE deptno = 10; If you want the total number of emps in all the department, the query would take the form: SELECT COUNT (*) FROM emp; SQL DISTINCT(): This function is used to select the distinct rows. For Example: If you want to select all distinct department names from emp table, the query would be: SELECT DISTINCT deptno FROM emp; To get the count of emps with unique name, the query would be: SELECT COUNT (DISTINCT name) FROM emp; SQL MAX(): This function is used to get the maximum value from a column. To get the maximum salary drawn by an emp, the query would be: SELECT MAX (salary) FROM emp; SQL MIN(): This function is used to get the minimum value from a column. To get the minimum salary drawn by an emp, he query would be: SELECT MIN (salary) FROM emp; SQL AVG(): This function is used to get the average value of a numeric column. To get the average salary, the query would be SELECT AVG (salary) FROM emp; SQL SUM(): This function is used to get the sum of a numeric column To get the total salary given out to the emps, SELECT SUM (salary) FROM emp;

MySQL 31 - DECIMAL Data Type

02:20
The DECIMAL data type is similar to the INT data type in that when you use the number for math, it maintains precision. The difference though is obvious in the name. The DECIMAL data type allows for numbers after a decimal point (and before the decimal point). The DECIMAL data type allows us to store what is known as a fixed-point number. A fixed point number is a number that has a specific number of digits available to store numbers in. That means we can't do things like use a DECIMAL data type to store as many digits of PI as possible, because we can't store unlimited digits. We are limited to a certain number. There are two keywords you need to understand when you are working with the DECIMAL data type, precision and scale. Precision is the number of digits and scale is the number of those digits that will come after the radix. You are going to want to provide these numbers when you declare a column of this data type. For example, DECIMAL(5, 2) has a precision of 5 digits and a scale of 2 digits. That means we can store a maximum of two digits after the decimal and four digits total. This gives us a possible range from -999.99 to 999.99 The highest number of digits is 65, and the highest number of digits after the decimal is 30. This data type is also known as DEC, NUMERIC, and FIXED. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Support me! http://www.patreon.com/calebcurry Subscribe to my newsletter: http://bit.ly/JoinCCNewsletter Donate!: http://bit.ly/DonateCTVM2. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Additional Links~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ More content: http://CalebCurry.com Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/CalebTheVideoMaker Google+: https://plus.google.com/+CalebTheVideoMaker2 Twitter: http://twitter.com/calebCurry Amazing Web Hosting - http://bit.ly/ccbluehost (The best web hosting for a cheap price!)

The Psychology Behind Hard-Coding in PL/SQL

03:39
The Psychology Behind Hard-Coding Since we write software using our brains, it is hard to avoid the impact of psychology and physiology of our brains on our code. This manifests quite clearly when it comes to hard-coding. Part 7 Aggregate Function in Sql in hindi

08:16
MIN returns the smallest value in a given column MAX returns the largest value in a given column SUM returns the sum of the numeric values in a given column AVG returns the average value of a given column COUNT returns the total number of values in a given column COUNT(*) returns the number of rows in a table Aggregate functions are used to compute against a "returned column of numeric data" from your SELECT statement. They basically summarize the results of a particular column of selected data. We are covering these here since they are required by the next topic, "GROUP BY". Although they are required for the "GROUP BY" clause, these functions can be used without the "GROUP BY" clause. SQL aggregate functions return a single value, calculated from values in a column. In database management an aggregate function is a function where the values of multiple rows are grouped together as input on certain criteria to form a single value of more significant meaning or measurement such as a set, a bag or a list. Common aggregate functions include: Average() Count() The aggregate value is a mathematical term used to refer to the collective sum of a number of smaller sums. The term is typically used when an individual or group needs to analyze data from multiple data sources. Data aggregation is any process in which information is gathered and expressed in a summary form, for purposes such as statistical analysis. A common aggregation purpose is to get more information about particular groups based on specific variables such as age, profession, or income.

Database vs Spreadsheet - Advantages and Disadvantages

07:06
In this video, we will focus on the advantages and disadvantages of spreadsheets vs databases. What is a spreadsheet? It is an electronic ledger, an electronic version of paper accounting worksheets. It was created to facilitate people who needed to store their accounting information in tabular form digitally. So, it is possible to create tables in a spreadsheet. This is one reason some people believe spreadsheets and databases are interchangeable, while, in reality, they aren’t. There are similarities between the two. Both can contain a large amount of tabular data and can use existing data to make calculations. Third, neither spreadsheets nor databases are typically used by a single person, so many users will work with the data. The differences between the two forms of data storage lie in the way these three characteristics are implemented. Ok. Imagine a spreadsheet. Every cell is treated as a unique entity. It can store any type of information – a date, an integer value, a string name. And then, not only can we have different types of values in various cells, but we can also apply a specific format to these cells. This is not inherent to databases. They contain only raw data. Each cell is a container of a single data value. It is the smallest piece of information there is. You must pre-set the type of data contained in a certain field. This feature prevents inadvertent mistakes – for example, in a field containing date values, should the user try to insert a string, the software will show an error and she will have the chance to correct herself. This won’t happen in Excel – if you insert a string in the column with date values, you wouldn’t obtain an error message, and Excel will store the string value. This video will provide you the details of each Mathematical Function in SQL Server 2014. ***********************************************************************  ABS (Transact-SQL) A mathematical function that returns the absolute (positive) value of the specified numeric expression.  Syntax ABS ( numeric_expression )  Arguments numeric_expression Is an expression of the exact numeric or approximate numeric data type category.  Return Types Returns the same type as numeric_expression.  Examples The following example shows the results of using the ABS function on three different numbers. SELECT ABS(-1.0), ABS(0.0), ABS(1.0); Here is the result set. ---- ---- ---- 1.0 .0 1.0 The ABS function can produce an overflow error when the absolute value of a number is greater than the largest number that can be represented by the specified data type. For example, the int data type can hold only values that range from -2,147,483,648 to 2,147,483,647. Computing the absolute value for the signed integer -2,147,483,648 causes an overflow error because its absolute value is greater than the positive range for the int data type. DECLARE @i int; SET @i = -2147483648; SELECT ABS(@i); ***********************************************************************  CEILING (Transact-SQL) Returns the smallest integer greater than, or equal to, the specified numeric expression.  Syntax CEILING ( numeric_expression )  Arguments numeric_expression Is an expression of the exact numeric or approximate numeric data type category, except for the bit data type.  Return Types Returns the same type as numeric_expression.  Examples The following example shows positive numeric, negative, and zero values with the CEILING function. SELECT CEILING($123.45), CEILING($-123.45), CEILING($0.0); GO ***********************************************************************  FLOOR (Transact-SQL) Returns the largest integer less than or equal to the specified numeric expression.  Syntax FLOOR ( numeric_expression )  Arguments numeric_expression Is an expression of the exact numeric or approximate numeric data type category, except for the bit data type.  Return Types Returns the same type as numeric_expression.  Examples The following example shows positive numeric, negative numeric, and currency values with the FLOOR function. SELECT FLOOR(123.45), FLOOR(-123.45), FLOOR($123.45); ***********************************************************************  POWER (Transact-SQL) Returns the value of the specified expression to the specified power.  Syntax POWER ( float_expression , y )  Arguments float_expression Is an expression of type float or of a type that can be implicitly converted to float. y Is the power to which to raise float_expression. y can be an expression of the exact numeric or approximate numeric data type category, except for thebit data type.  Return Types Returns the same type as submitted in float_expression. For example, if a decimal(2,0) is submitted as float_expression, the result returned isdecimal(2,0).  Examples A. Using POWER to return the cube of a number The following example demonstrates raising a number to the power of 3 (the cube of the number). DECLARE @input1 float; DECLARE @input2 float; SET @input1= 2; SET @input2 = 2.5; SELECT POWER(@input1, 3) AS Result1, POWER(@input2, 3) AS Result2;

Mathematical Functions in SQL SERVER Part II || ROUND, SQRT, SQUARE functions in SQL 2014

04:00
This video will provide you the details of each Mathematical Function in SQL Server 2014. *********************************************************************** Mathematical Functions Part I https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EL9JNDURGvg *************************************************************************  ROUND (Transact-SQL) Returns a numeric value, rounded to the specified length or precision.  Syntax ROUND ( numeric_expression , length [ ,function ] )  Arguments numeric_expression Is an expression of the exact numeric or approximate numeric data type category, except for the bit data type. length Is the precision to which numeric_expression is to be rounded. length must be an expression of type tinyint, smallint, or int. When length is a positive number, numeric_expression is rounded to the number of decimal positions specified by length. When length is a negative number, numeric_expressionis rounded on the left side of the decimal point, as specified by length. function Is the type of operation to perform. function must be tinyint, smallint, or int. When function is omitted or has a value of 0 (default), numeric_expressionis rounded. When a value other than 0 is specified, numeric_expression is truncated.  Return Types Returns the following data types. Expression result Return type tinyint int smallint int int int bigint bigint decimal and numeric category (p, s) decimal(p, s) money and smallmoney category money float and real category float  Remarks ROUND always returns a value. If length is negative and larger than the number of digits before the decimal point, ROUND returns 0. Example Result ROUND(748.58, -4) 0 ROUND returns a rounded numeric_expression, regardless of data type, when length is a negative number. Examples Result ROUND(748.58, -1) 750.00 ROUND(748.58, -2) 700.00 ROUND(748.58, -3) Results in an arithmetic overflow, because 748.58 defaults to decimal(5,2), which cannot return 1000.00. To round up to 4 digits, change the data type of the input. For example: SELECT ROUND(CAST (748.58 AS decimal (6,2)),-3); 1000.00  Examples A. Using ROUND and rounding approximations The following example shows rounding and approximations. SELECT ROUND(123.4545, 2); GO SELECT ROUND(123.45, -2); GO *******************************************************************************  SQRT (Transact-SQL) Returns the square root of the specified float value.  Syntax SQRT ( float_expression )  Arguments float_expression Is an expression of type float or of a type that can be implicitly converted to float.  Return Types float *******************************************************************************  SQUARE (Transact-SQL) Returns the square of the specified float value.  Syntax SQUARE ( float_expression )  Arguments float_expression Is an expression of type float or of a type that can be implicitly converted to float.  Return Types Float
