Distributed applications such as Memcached and Coherence generally rely on a platform’s synchronous streaming transports (such as TCP, UDP, or SDP) to distribute data. MessageBus provides an asynchronous ByteBuffer-based reliable Java API that enables distributed apps to run on Internet Protocol (IP)–based as well as InfiniBand-based platforms. This presentation quantifies gains in InfiniBand-based environments and reports no loss of performance in IP-based environments (compared to writing directly to IP APIs). The main idea is that an application written to the MessageBus API will work on typical transports and get great latency and bandwidth improvements when deployed in InfiniBand environments. Oracle este furnizorul de baze de date al tuturor operatorilor telecom. Deci de fiecare dată când primiţi o factură de la un operator, acesta vine dintr-o bază de date produsă de Oracle. Apoi, dacă ne uităm la IP ca un standard pentru a construi, practic, servicii web şi website-uri Internet, următorul nostru pas a fost să construim website-uri şi să furnizăm infrastructura necesară construirii unui website - realizată la nivel de middleware, prin Oracle Fusion. De ce pomenesc de servicii web şi website-uri? Pe scurt, deoarece IP devine protocolul pentru transferul de voce, date, imagini, video către telefonul dvs. mobil sau către website-ul dvs., am putea spune că telefonul dvs. mobil este un website sau că un website este un telefon mobil. Aşa că noi la Oracle am zis: ştim cum să livrăm datele foarte rapid către un website. Ei bine, aceeaşi infrastructură, având IP la bază, o putem oferi operatorilor telecom. Deci, la bază, ceea ce facem noi acum este să luăm middleware-ul Oracle Fusion şi să îl extindem pentru operatorii telecom, în ceea ce numim Service Delivery Platform (SDP - platformă de livrare a serviciilor), care asigură taxarea pe care o ştiţi, dar care este, de fapt, o platformă pe care se pot construi noi servicii pentru telefoane mobile, mult mai repede. Prin servicii înţelegem lucruri ca atunci când vrei să plăteşti cu telefonul - acesta este un serviciu - sau să joci la loterie de pe propriul telefonul sau să votezi prin telefon sau să rulezi video pe telefon. Cât despre strategia Oracle de achiziţii în telecom, am cumpărat, pentru a extinde platforma de livrare a serviciilor pe partea de back-end, Portal Software (aprilie 2006), competitorul Amdocs pe piaţa de sisteme de taxare, o achiziţie recentă, şi suntem în curs de a o integra. Am cumpărat TimesTen (iunie 2005), o companie mică, dar cheie, pe baze de date încorporate în memorie, pentru accesul foarte rapid la baze de date. Un exemplu: copiii dvs. pot accesa un tip de video oarecare pe telefonul mobil, vreţi să le daţi acces, nu aveţi unde să mergeţi pentru o bază de date pentru că durează prea mult şi atunci mergeţi în baza de date din memoria telefonului, cu Timestand, pentru a autoriza accesul. Am mai achiziţionat Net4Call (aprilie 2006), integrând produsele sale Parlay/OSA în platforma noastră SDP, pentru partea de operare a reţelei. În fine, am achiziţionat HotSip (februarie 2006), o companie mică suedeză, care ne-a adus tehnologia Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), practic o cale de a construi servicii. Un ultim comentariu, nu despre Oracle, ci o reflecţie despre situaţia Franţei. Nu vreau să dau vreo lecţie României, dar noi am întârziat cu Internetul în Franţa, eram descrişi ca cea mai întârziată ţară ca număr de locuitori ce accesează Internetul. Acum, piaţa a fost liberalizată, deschisă tuturor operatorilor. Franţa are cea mai mare rată de penetrare Internet în zona rezidenţială, peste 50% broadband acum, iar utilizarea în sectorul public este de sub 30 euro/lună - este o ţară în care accesul broadband este unul din cele mai ieftine. Unii operatori ajung la 15 euro pe lună pentru 4play - TV, date, voce şi mobil.

Google has been doing it for years, and organizations like the Cloud Security Alliance are expecting this to be the next big tech innovation. So much so, that they are already drafting version 2 of the SDP guidelines. So after talking with a friend of mine about how they were trying to implement it, he suggested talking to Jason, since he was on the steering committee for it. While Jason does work for a company that sells this solution, our discussion with him is very vendor agnostic, and he even discusses an open source version of SDP that you could implement or test out as a PoC (details in show notes below). Title: Modern Database Systems: Modernized Classic Systems, NewSQL and NoSQL Speaker: Dr. C. Mohan (IBM Almaden Research Center) Abstract The last many years have seen the emergence of a new class of database systems which I am calling Modern Database Systems (MDS). They are classified broadly as NoSQL and NewSQL systems. Apart from the development of such systems, traditional DBMS vendors have also extended their decades old systems like DB2, Informix, Oracle and SQL Server with major architectural enhancements that address modern requirements and take advantage of hardware (processor, memory and storage) advances. This talk will do a broad brush analysis of MDS. It is targeted at a broad set of database systems and applications people. It is intended to let the audience better appreciate what is really behind the covers of many of these systems, going beyond the hype associated with these open source, commercial and research systems. The capabilities and limitations of such systems will be addressed. Some application case studies will also be presented. This IBM, ACM and IEEE Fellow has also served as the IBM India Chief Scientist. In addition to receiving the ACM SIGMOD Innovation Award, the VLDB 10 Year Best Paper Award and numerous IBM awards, he has been elected to the US and Indian National Academies of Engineering, and has been named an IBM Master Inventor. This distinguished alumnus of IIT Madras received his PhD at the University of Texas at Austin. He is an inventor of 40 patents. He serves on the IBM Software Group Architecture Board's Council.
