Create Oracle Report with Lexical Parameter | Oracle apps

05:36
Lexical references are placeholders for text that you embed in a SELECT statement. You can use lexical references to replace the clauses appearing after SELECT, FROM, WHERE, GROUP BY, ORDER BY, HAVING, CONNECT BY, and START WITH. You cannot make lexical references in PL/SQL. Before you reference a lexical parameter in a query you must have predefined the parameter.

Bind references are used to replace a single value in SQL or PL/SQL. Specifically, bind references may be used to replace expressions in SELECT, WHERE, GROUP BY, ORDER BY, HAVING,CONNECT BY, and START WITH clauses of queries. Syntax: SELECT Col1,Col2 FROM emp WHERE Col1 = :P_col1; Bind parameters are used to substitute single value at runtime for evaluation and are identified by a preceding ‘:’ An example of a bind parameter in a select statement is provided below, where :P_Name is the bind parameter reference. Select Name,Value From emp Where deptno= :P_deptno

Parameters enable you to develop dynamic report documents that produce report output depending on the parameter value that you enter at run time. Types of Parameter: 1.System parameters 2.User define parameters System parameters: Reports Builder automatically creates a set of system parameters at runtime. You cannot delete or rename a system parameter. Oracle Reports is shipped with the following system parameters. You can change their default values. COPIES Is the number of report copies that should be made when the report is printed. DESFORMAT Is either: the output format for the report (for example, PDF, HTML, HTMLCSS, RTF, XML, SPREADSHEET, DELIMITED, or DELIMITEDDATA for bitmapped reports). The printer definition to use when formatting the report when DESTYPE=FILE and DESNAME=filename. If MODE=BITMAP, this is the name of the printer. If MODE=CHARACTER, this is the character mode printer definition file (.prt file). DESNAME Is the name of the output device (for example, the file name, printer's name, mail user ID). DESTYPE Is the type of device that will receive the report output (for example, SCREEN (to format the report using screen fonts), FILE, PRINTER, MAIL, SYSOUT, CACHE, or LOCALFILE. MODE Is whether the report should run in CHARACTER mode or BITMAP. ORIENTATION Is the print direction for the report (LANDSCAPE, PORTRAIT, DEFAULT). PRINTJOB Is whether the Print Job dialog box should appear before the report is run. User define parameters : A user define parameter is a Data Model object that you create to hold a value that users can change at run time. The parameter default data type is CHARACTER. Creating a SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) report that contains a Parameter Query

11:08
In many reporting situations users need to restrict the data visible in a report. For example filtering a master report with a drop-down list box so that only information for a specific month or product is shown. This video demonstrates how to do this using SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS). This can be achieved by integrating a Parameter Query into a report. The process is simple and can be done using the following 4 steps. These are 1) Create a standard SSRS report (with a shared data source & dataset). 2) Add a "[email protected]" clause into the underlying SQL statement in the report. 3) Create list of records to be used in a parameter list box (from a second dataset). 4)Link the Parameter list to the main report. I also have a comprehensive 60 minute T-SQL course available at Udemy : https://www.udemy.com/t-sql-for-data-analysts/?couponCode=ANALYTICS50%25OFF

Validation Triggers: Both system parameters and user parameters have a Validation Trigger property in which you can write a PL/SQL function to validate the value of the parameter. Validation triggers are PL/SQL functions that are executed when parameter values are specified on the command line and when you accept the Runtime Parameter Form. Validation triggers are also used to validate the Initial Value property of the parameter and it is applicable only on parameter. Depending on whether the function returns TRUE or FALSE, the user is returned to the Runtime Parameter Form.
