Oracle tutorial: How to create Id with AUTO INCREMENT in Oracle oracle tutorial for beginners sequence in oracle identity key in sql In this Oracle tutorial , we can create an auto increment field using ‘sequence’ object that can be assigned as primary keys. Using Oracle ‘sequence’ object, you can generate new values for a column. An Oracle sequence is an object like a table or a stored procedure. Examples CREATE SEQUENCE SYSTEM.MYSEQ START WITH 1 MAXVALUE 999999999999999999999999999 MINVALUE 1 NOCYCLE CACHE 20 NOORDER; CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER TR_CITY BEFORE INSERT ON CITY FOR EACH ROW BEGIN SELECT LPAD(LTRIM(RTRIM(TO_CHAR(myseq.NEXTVAL))),10,'0') INTO :NEW.id FROM DUAL; END; / Subscribe on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCpiyAesWNYOXSz5GPq8lbkA For more tutorial please visit #techquerypond https://techquerypond.wordpress.com https://twitter.com/techquerypond identity column

How to create Virtual Columns in Oracle Database

09:02
How to create Virtual Columns in Oracle Database 12c When queried, virtual columns appear to be normal table columns, but their values are derived rather than being stored on disc. The syntax for defining a virtual column is listed below. column_name [datatype] [GENERATED ALWAYS] AS (expression) [VIRTUAL] If the datatype is omitted, it is determined based on the result of the expression. The GENERATED ALWAYS and VIRTUAL keywords are provided for clarity only. The script below creates and populates an employees table with two levels of commission. It includes two virtual columns to display the commission-based salary. The first uses the most abbreviated syntax while the second uses the most verbose form. CREATE TABLE employees ( id NUMBER, first_name VARCHAR2(10), last_name VARCHAR2(10), salary NUMBER(9,2), comm1 NUMBER(3), comm2 NUMBER(3), salary1 AS (ROUND(salary*(1+comm1/100),2)), salary2 NUMBER GENERATED ALWAYS AS (ROUND(salary*(1+comm2/100),2)) VIRTUAL, CONSTRAINT employees_pk PRIMARY KEY (id) ); INSERT INTO employees (id, first_name, last_name, salary, comm1, comm2) VALUES (1, 'JOHN', 'DOE', 100, 5, 10); INSERT INTO employees (id, first_name, last_name, salary, comm1, comm2) VALUES (2, 'JAYNE', 'DOE', 200, 10, 20); COMMIT; Querying the table shows the inserted data plus the derived commission-based salaries. SELECT * FROM employees; ID FIRST_NAME LAST_NAME SALARY COMM1 COMM2 SALARY1 SALARY2 ---------- ---------- ---------- ---------- ---------- ---------- ---------- ---------- 1 JOHN DOE 100 5 10 105 110 2 JAYNE DOE 200 10 20 220 240 2 rows selected. SQL The expression used to generate the virtual column is listed in the DATA_DEFAULT column of the [DBA|ALL|USER]_TAB_COLUMNS views. COLUMN data_default FORMAT A50 SELECT column_name, data_default FROM user_tab_columns WHERE table_name = 'EMPLOYEES'; COLUMN_NAME DATA_DEFAULT ------------------------------ -------------------------------------------------- ID FIRST_NAME LAST_NAME SALARY COMM1 COMM2 SALARY1 ROUND("SALARY"*(1+"COMM1"/100),2) SALARY2 ROUND("SALARY"*(1+"COMM2"/100),2) 8 rows selected. SQL Notes and restrictions on virtual columns include: 1)Indexes defined against virtual columns are equivalent to function-based indexes. 2)Virtual columns can be referenced in the WHERE clause of updates and deletes, but they cannot be manipulated by DML. 3)Tables containing virtual columns can still be eligible for result caching. 4)Functions in expressions must be deterministic at the time of table creation, but can subsequently be recompiled and made non-deterministic without invalidating the virtual column. In such cases the following steps must be taken after the function is recompiled: a)Constraint on the virtual column must be disabled and re-enabled. b)Indexes on the virtual column must be rebuilt. c)Materialized views that access the virtual column must be fully refreshed. d)The result cache must be flushed if cached queries have accessed the virtual column. e)Table statistics must be regathered. 5)Virtual columns are not supported for index-organized, external, object, cluster, or temporary tables. 6)The expression used in the virtual column definition has the following restrictions: a.It cannot refer to another virtual column by name. b.It can only refer to columns defined in the same table. c.If it refers to a deterministic user-defined function, it cannot be used as a partitioning key column. e.The output of the expression must be a scalar value. It cannot return an Oracle supplied datatype, a user-defined type, or LOB or LONG RAW.

Oracle SQL Tutorial 9 - Intro to Queries

04:55
This video is for beginners who have never worked with SQL Developer, and we are going to teach how to begin writing queries. So the queries we are going to start with are queries when we give the database an expression and it will return back some kind of value. The most common keyword you are going to need to know for Oracle is SELECT. SELECT is the command we use to get data from the database. Even though we have not really put any data in our database, we can still use the SELECT statement to get data. That's because the database is capable of doing more than just creating tables and retrieving data from tables. So our first goal is to essentially write a Hello World, which just displays the text hello world to us. A good place to start is with: SELECT 'Hello World' This would actually work for many database management systems, but when you run it you will get an error. This actually doesn't work with Oracle, it will tell us we always need the FROM keyword. To get around this, there is a magical table called DUAL. We can put anything we want to SELECT and then say FROM DUAL and it will work. SELECT 'Hello World' FROM DUAL We can also do math: SELECT 1+1 FROM DUAL And we can run even run functions: SELECT SYSTIMESTAMP FROM DUAL To put all of this together, you can grab all of this data at the same time using commas to separate different columns from our generated table: SELECT 'Hello World', 1+1, SYSTIMESTAMP FROM DUAL Support me on Patreon: http://www.patreon.com/calebcurry Subscribe to my newsletter: http://bit.ly/JoinCCNewsletter Donate!: http://bit.ly/DonateCTVM2. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Additional Links~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ More content: http://CalebCurry.com Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/CalebTheVideoMaker Google+: https://plus.google.com/+CalebTheVideoMaker2 Twitter: http://twitter.com/calebCurry Amazing Web Hosting - http://bit.ly/ccbluehost (The best web hosting for a cheap price!)

Oracle Database 12c Security - Oracle Virtual Private Database (VPD)

12:29
Learn how to use Oracle Virtual Private Database (VPD) to secure your data. See all lessons at http://skillbuilders.com/12c-TSDP-Tutorial First, Virtual Private Database. What is it? Answer: It's a declarative technique for enforcing security. Typically, it's based on user application context. That was the first limitation of 8i. Backed with 8i context were session-specific. The context variables were sort in the PGA. That means you simply couldn't use this in a web environment. However, global context, with use of 9i, Virtual Private Database became usable for web applications with connection pooling. But whether you're using it to client server or on a three tier environment, it's declarative technique rather than a programmatic technique. I can go behind the back of the application as a DBA and generate predicates to get appended to all SQLs. Select, insert, update, delete the end users. Issue the SQL and I will generate a predicate that filters the access. It's impossible to bypass. All users will have predicates appended to all their code. It doesn't matter whether they're using SQL Plus, Discoverer, Business Objects, Crystal Reports, eBusiness Suites, whatever they're using, I as DBA can filter their access to roles. The end result, different users see different data sets while running the same code and accessing the same tables, hence, the name Virtual Private Database. Different users will think they're seeing a totally different set of tables, but in fact it's one column database, one set of tables hosting a single application shared by all the users. The mechanism - you can apply VPD to tables, to views, to synonyms, and a declarative technique. Once the technique you write a function that generates the predicate, you associate the function with the table. From then on whenever the user issue SQL against that table the Cost-Based Optimizer rewrites the code. The Cost-Based Optimizer rewrites the user SQL to call the function to generate the predicate. The predicate is then appended to the SQL and it's the modified SQL that is parsed and executed. Let's see how this actually works. I'm working here by the way. This is just a perfectly normal 12.1 database. But what I'm going to demonstrate at this point will in fact work on 11g as well. I'm not going to be using any of the 12c enhancements to VPD for this little demonstration. I'll work in the scott schema. What do we have to do? We write a function to generate the predicate string. Create function. And I'll my function vpdf. The function must conform to a fixed specification. It must take two varchar arguments. One of the arguments is intended to be the schema to which the function will be applied. The other argument is the object within the schema to which the function will be applied. And it must return a varchar2, which is the generated predicate. Let's begin. Within this function you can do just about anything. There are some limitations. It's impossible for the function to query or update the table against which the VPD calls here is going to be applied or we violate the rules of purity that we come across so often with PL/SQL. But apart from that, it can do just about anything - including a number of dreadful side effects can be introduced by writing VPD functions. I'm going to do a very simple one on this one. I'll shall simple return immediately a predicate. What predicate? Ename, which is the ename column from this scott.emp table. Ename should equal sys_context. I'll go to the local context, my user end context, and just extract session user. We can see that John has tested this earlier today and therefore the object already was suggesting and he's just dropping it now and cleaning up the recreate. I hope you realize these really are live demonstrations. I'm not just running scripts. I've created a function. What's that function going to do? It's going to return this value here. Test it. Always test it and see what it's actually going to do. I'll select vpdf. I have to give it a couple of arguments. This one will do for now.

FoEhints: Power Start Episode 4 in Forge of Empires

04:26
A pretty image showing the temple of relics starts the video today. Every day in Forge of Empires should start with collecting productions, restarting them, and to use the forge points that generated over night. It is always great to make the city's building space a bit bigger. Each single expansion helps. Today will be a great day as we will build our first great building. The story questline requires us to collect 100 supplies. In return a blueprint for the Oracle of Delphi is offered. For constructing a residential building we receive a second blueprint and a third for producing two flacons. Another one is given to us for the research of a technology. Even 2 blueprints are offered for a banana. Bananas in the Iron Age? In deed this is a question that you can find often in the web: Where will I get bananas from in Forge of Empires? You simply produce them in the fruit farm. The old Romans definitely did not have the possibility to do that, but you have and then you have a total of 6 blueprints. Next we invite a friend. That is already enough. It is not necessary that this player accepts the invitation to get this quest completed. This is rewarded with blueprint number 7. Now we motivate and polish a bit. This is what happens randomly when you press the 'aid' button in your friendslist. This makes our set of Oracle blueprints to be nearly complete. The last blueprint we receive for selling a building. Selling a street would be enough, but I decide for the hunter as this also creates the required space to build that great building. Our reward is 20 forge points, which I invest into research in the technology tree. A side quest requires us to log in the game using the app. I do so immediately, using this opportunity to do something that is not possible easily on the desktop. I write a message to all my friends, begging them for spending 5 forge points each for the construction site of my new great building. They will get this investment back as a sponsor bonus as soon as the first level is completed. As soon as the message is sent out, I switch back to the browser version. Now I have to wait until my Oracle is filled. Of course I will have to provide the remaining 10 forge points on my own. While waiting, I try to find a guild to join without requiring an application and granting at least 1 forge point. I find such a guild in the top 10 of all guilds. I join the guild MAYHEM and collect from my town hall, receiving that extra forge point for being a member. Then I help all other members of that guild and leave the guild again. In the meantime my Oracle has been filled completely. I will keep it on that level, not planning to upgrade my first great building further more. Also today, I again can expand my tavern a bit. This time it is a bigger table. This was our last day in the Bronze Age. Tomorrow, on our 5th day in the game, we will move forward to the Iron Age.

For example, on my machine I have 400,000 records in tblProducts table 600,000 records in tblProductSales tables The following query, returns, the list of products that we have sold atleast once. This query is formed using sub-queries. When I execute this query I get 306,199 rows in 6 seconds Select Id, Name, Description from tblProducts where ID IN ( Select ProductId from tblProductSales ) At this stage please clean the query and execution plan cache using the following T-SQL command. CHECKPOINT; GO DBCC DROPCLEANBUFFERS; Go DBCC FREEPROCCACHE; GO Now, run the query that is formed using joins. Notice that I get the exact same 306,199 rows in 6 seconds. Select distinct tblProducts.Id, Name, Description from tblProducts inner join tblProductSales on tblProducts.Id = tblProductSales.ProductId Please Note: I have used automated sql script to insert huge amounts of this random data. Please watch Part 61 of SQL Server tutorial, in which we have discussed about this automated script. According to MSDN, in some cases where existence must be checked, a join produces better performance. Otherwise, the nested query must be processed for each result of the outer query. In such cases, a join approach would yield better results. The following query returns the products that we have not sold atleast once. This query is formed using sub-queries. When I execute this query I get 93,801 rows in 3 seconds Select Id, Name, [Description] from tblProducts where Not Exists(Select * from tblProductSales where ProductId = tblProducts.Id) When I execute the below equivalent query, that uses joins, I get the exact same 93,801 rows in 3 seconds. Select tblProducts.Id, Name, [Description] from tblProducts left join tblProductSales on tblProducts.Id = tblProductSales.ProductId where tblProductSales.ProductId IS NULL In general joins work faster than sub-queries, but in reality it all depends on the execution plan that is generated by SQL Server. It does not matter how we have written the query, SQL Server will always transform it on an execution plan. If sql server generates the same plan from both queries, we will get the same result. I would say, rather than going by theory, turn on client statistics and execution plan to see the performance of each option, and then make a decision. In a later video session we will discuss about client statistics and execution plans in detail.

Speaker(s): Amit Bhattacharya (Bangalore) Abstract: Get in depth knowledge of implementation and usage of Generated/Virtual Columns in MySQL(a new feature in MySQL 5.7). * Generated Columns can be used as materialized storage for most used expressions.* It provides a way for supporting indexes for joins with non-relational data(JSON data type) and it gives an option to either store the value of expression or let it be calculated on the fly when the record is read from the table. * Last but not the least we support indexing on these column. Akashic Records Readings vs Intuitive, Oracle, Tarot Readings...what's the difference?

06:37
50% off Akashic Records Readings: https://etsy.me/2CuUIas Do you have habits that you can’t seem to break? Do you keep attracting the same type of dysfunctional partner or relationship? Is there a pattern in your life you can’t figure out? Do you just feel stuck, lost, or unfulfilled? Accessing your Akashic Records may help provide insight or guidance into these situations. Your Akashic Records are the record of your soul’s journey from the time of its creation up to the current moment. The Akashic Records contain an energetic imprint of every action, spoken word, thought, and intention generated by your soul in this and every other lifetime. The Hall of Akashic Records is the “database” or etheric field where every soul’s records are stored. The Akashic Records are not a divination tool and do not predict the future. However, by putting to use the knowledge and healing gained in the Records, they can assist you in affecting your future potential outcomes. You may receive suggestions, helpful information, or recommended action steps. But, you will not be told what to do. Since your free will is always respected, you may change your potential future at any time. For this reading, please choose one specific question for me to research in your Akashic Records. For best results, avoid phrasing this as a yes/no question. Also, since the records are not bound by traditional constraints of time, questions regarding specifically when something might occur may not provide the expected answer. Contrary to the general protocol of other types of intuitive readings, the more information you provide and the more specific your question is, the better your results will be in an Akashic Records Reading. For example, the question “When will I meet my soulmate?” assumes that you are meant to be in a romantic soulmate relationship in this lifetime and requests a timeframe that the records may not be able to provide. An alternative to this would be “What do I need to do in order to be open to a healthy romantic relationship?” I do offer other readings using oracle cards that are more suitable for prediction-based questions if that is what you’re currently seeking. Other examples of helpful, open-ended questions are: Please provide me with insight about _________________________________. What is my best action step to move forward toward my goal of___________? What would be beneficial to know or understand about my habit of_________? What is my soul’s purpose for this lifetime?

For example, the following "UPDATE" query, updates a set of rows that matches the condition in the "WHERE" clause at the same time. Update tblProductSales Set UnitPrice = 50 where ProductId = 101 However, if there is ever a need to process the rows, on a row-by-row basis, then cursors are your choice. Cursors are very bad for performance, and should be avoided always. Most of the time, cursors can be very easily replaced using joins. There are different types of cursors in sql server as listed below. We will talk about the differences between these cursor types in a later video session. 1. Forward-Only 2. Static 3. Keyset 4. Dynamic Let us now look at a simple example of using sql server cursor to process one row at time. We will be using tblProducts and tblProductSales tables, for this example. On my machine, there are 400,000 records in tblProducts and 600,000 records in tblProductSales tables. If you want to learn about generating huge amounts of random test data, please watch Part - 61 in sql server video tutorial. The link is below. http://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/videos?flow=grid&view=1 Cursor Example: Let us say, I want to update the UNITPRICE column in tblProductSales table, based on the following criteria 1. If the ProductName = 'Product - 55', Set Unit Price to 55 2. If the ProductName = 'Product - 65', Set Unit Price to 65 3. If the ProductName is like 'Product - 100%', Set Unit Price to 1000 For the SQL code samples used in the demo please visit my blog at the following link http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2013/01/cursors-in-sql-server-part-63.html The cursor will loop thru each row in tblProductSales table. As there are 600,000 rows, to be processed on a row-by-row basis, it takes around 40 to 45 seconds on my machine. We can achieve this very easily using a join, and this will significantly increase the performance. We will discuss about this in our next video session. To check if the rows have been correctly updated, please use the following query. Select Name, UnitPrice from tblProducts join tblProductSales on tblProducts.Id = tblProductSales.ProductId where (Name='Product - 55' or Name='Product - 65' or Name like 'Product - 100%')

Sequence object in SQL Server 2012

create sequence in sql server In this video we will discuss sequence object in SQL Server. Sequence object Introduced in SQL Server 2012 Generates sequence of numeric values in an ascending or descending order Text version of the video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2015/10/sequence-object-in-sql-server-2012.html Slides http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2015/10/sequence-object-in-sql-server-2012_26.html All SQL Server Text Articles http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/p/free-sql-server-video-tutorials-for.html All SQL Server Slides http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/p/sql-server.html All Dot Net and SQL Server Tutorials in English https://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists?view=1&sort=dd All Dot Net and SQL Server Tutorials in Arabic https://www.youtube.com/c/KudvenkatArabic/playlists Creating the Incrementing Sequence : The following code create a Sequence object that starts with 1 and increments by 1 CREATE SEQUENCE [dbo].[SequenceObject] AS INT START WITH 1 INCREMENT BY 1 Generating the Next Sequence Value : Now we have a sequence object created. To generate the sequence value use NEXT VALUE FOR clause SELECT NEXT VALUE FOR [dbo].[SequenceObject] Output : 1 Every time you execute the above query the sequence value will be incremented by 1. I executed the above query 5 times, so the current sequence value is 5. Retrieving the current sequence value : If you want to see what the current Sequence value before generating the next, use sys.sequences SELECT * FROM sys.sequences WHERE name = 'SequenceObject' Alter the Sequence object to reset the sequence value : ALTER SEQUENCE [SequenceObject] RESTART WITH 1 Select the next sequence value to make sure the value starts from 1 SELECT NEXT VALUE FOR [dbo].[SequenceObject] Using sequence value in an INSERT query : CREATE TABLE Employees ( Id INT PRIMARY KEY, Name NVARCHAR(50), Gender NVARCHAR(10) ) -- Generate and insert Sequence values INSERT INTO Employees VALUES (NEXT VALUE for [dbo].[SequenceObject], 'Ben', 'Male') INSERT INTO Employees VALUES (NEXT VALUE for [dbo].[SequenceObject], 'Sara', 'Female') -- Select the data from the table SELECT * FROM Employees Creating the decrementing Sequence : The following code create a Sequence object that starts with 100 and decrements by 1 CREATE SEQUENCE [dbo].[SequenceObject] AS INT START WITH 100 INCREMENT BY -1 Specifying MIN and MAX values for the sequence : Use the MINVALUE and MAXVALUE arguments to specify the MIN and MAX values respectively. Step 1 : Create the Sequence object CREATE SEQUENCE [dbo].[SequenceObject] START WITH 100 INCREMENT BY 10 MINVALUE 100 MAXVALUE 150 Step 2 : Retrieve the next sequence value. The sequence value starts at 100. Every time we call NEXT VALUE, the value will be incremented by 10. SELECT NEXT VALUE FOR [dbo].[SequenceObject] If you call NEXT VALUE, when the value reaches 150 (MAXVALUE), you will get the following error The sequence object 'SequenceObject' has reached its minimum or maximum value. Restart the sequence object to allow new values to be generated. Recycling Sequence values : When the sequence object has reached it's maximum value, and if you want to restart from the minimum value, set CYCLE option ALTER SEQUENCE [dbo].[SequenceObject] INCREMENT BY 10 MINVALUE 100 MAXVALUE 150 CYCLE At this point, whe the sequence object has reached it's maximum value, and if you ask for the NEXT VALUE, sequence object starts from the minimum value again which in this case is 100. To improve performance, the Sequence object values can be cached using the CACHE option. When the values are cached they are read from the memory instead of from the disk, which improves the performance. When the cache option is specified you can also specify the size of th cache , that is the number of values to cache. The following example, creates the sequence object with 10 values cached. When the 11th value is requested, the next 10 values will be cached again. CREATE SEQUENCE [dbo].[SequenceObject] START WITH 1 INCREMENT BY 1 CACHE 10 Using SQL Server Graphical User Interface (GUI) to create the sequence object : 1. Expand the database folder 2. Expand Programmability folder 3. Right click on Sequences folder 4. Select New Sequence Next video : Difference between SEQUENCE and IDENTITY in SQL Server

Real Oracle 1Z0-060 Exam Dumps From Actualcert With New Added Questions For Free Download

http://www.actualcert.com/1Z0-060.html Real Oracle 1Z0-060 Exam Dumps From Lead2exam With New Added Questions For Free Download. Exam QUESTION 1 Your multitenant container (CDB) contains two pluggable databases (PDB), HR_PDB and ACCOUNTS_PDB, both of which use the CDB tablespace. The temp file is called temp01.tmp. A user issues a query on a table on one of the PDBs and receives the following error: ERROR at line 1: ORA-01565: error in identifying file `/u01/app/oracle/oradata/CDB1/temp01.tmp' ORA-27037: unable to obtain file status Identify two ways to rectify the error. A. Add a new temp file to the temporary tablespace and drop the temp file that that produced the error. B. Shut down the database instance, restore the temp01.tmp file from the backup, and then restart the database. C. Take the temporary tablespace offline, recover the missing temp file by applying redo logs, and then bring the temporary tablespace online. D. Shutdown the database instance, restore and recover the temp file from the backup, and then open the database with RESETLOGS. E. Shut down the database instance and then restart the CDB and PDBs. Correct Answer: AE Explanation Explanation/Reference: * Because temp files cannot be backed up and because no redo is ever generated for them, RMAN never restores or recovers temp files. RMAN does track the names of temp files, but only so that it can automatically re-create them when needed. * If you use RMAN in a Data Guard environment, then RMAN transparently converts primary control files to standby control files and vice versa. RMAN automatically updates file names for data files, online redo logs, standby redo logs, and temp files when you issue RESTORE and RECOVER. JDBC Batch Transactions - High Performance Java Persistence

04:27
In this episode I explain the importance of JDBC batch inserts / updates and show you how to use Java JDBC batch transactions with Preparedstatement. It has been measured that using batch transactions can provide up to a 500% performance gain depending on the database and driver. (See java-persistence-performance link at bottom). This can be critical developing low latency services and reducing precious milliseconds. If you enjoyed the video don't forget to subscribe! Till part 2! Philip Important snippet from jooq article: 10. Inserting lots of records one by one JDBC knows batching, and you should use it. Do not INSERT thousands of records one by one, re-creating a new PreparedStatement every time. If all of your records go to the same table, create a batch INSERT/UPDATE statement with a single SQL statement and multiple bind value sets. Depending on your database and database configuration, you may need to commit after a certain amount of inserted records, in order to keep the UNDO log slim. The Cure: Always batch-insert large sets of data. How to Generate DDL Scripts(Create) from SSMS - SQL Server / T-SQL Tutorial Part 17

05:23
How to Generate DDL Scripts(Create) from SSMS - SQL Server / T-SQL Tutorial Scenario: We often need to get DDL( Data Definition Language) scripts for different objects such as tables, views and Stored Procedures etc. Is it possible to generate Create Table statement for a table in SSMS? If I need to generate Create statement for all the tables/view, Will SSMS let me do it? Solution: Generate Script for Single Object: SQL Server Management Studio ( SSMS) does provide the feature to script single or all objects. To generate DDL script for single object, You can right click on the object and then choose the statement you like to create. Let's say if we would like to generate create table statement for existing table, we will choose below options. How to Generate DDL Scripts for More than One Object: This is also easy. You need to Right click on the Database in which the objects exists. Then go to Tasks and hit Generate Scripts. In Next window, you will be able to choose the objects for which you would like to create script. The next window will ask you if you like to have the scripts open in new Query Window or you would like to save in a file. Sometime you have a lot of objects and those script might not fit in Query Window, you can always save to file and then use it when required. Once you hit Next, You will see the progress windows as shown below. Once done. You can hit Finish. SQL Server 2016 (New feature): How to use Dynamic Data Masking

04:38
Want to selectively hide or scramble sensitive data? In this video, I'll show you how to use a new feature/tool in SQL Server 2016, called Dynamic Data Masking, that allows you to partly obfuscate certain columns of data in a table or view. -- Hey, if you enjoyed this video, please SUBSCRIBE to HandyAndy Tech Tips! -- My notes on this topic: - Now, to add the masking, you COULD define the masking in the table definition statement, but I'll use the ALTER TABLE statement. Anyway, the basic syntax is the same: MASKED WITH (FUNCTION = ''). The string can basically be one of four functions. - The easiest is default() - everything is automatic. It: ---- on a TEXT FIELD, replaces the original value of the field with 4 X's. ---- on a DATE FIELD, set s the date to 1900-01-01 00:00:00.00 ---- on a NUMERIC FIELD, sets the value to 0. - email() only shows the first letter, and replaces the remainder of the field with X's, an @ symbol, and a standard .com suffix. It, of course, also works on fields that don't include actual email addresses - so it therefore works on any VARCHAR or CHAR. - partial() - When used as partial(no-of-chars-to-reveal-before, padding, chars-to-reveal-after), it reveals the first character and the last two, separated by a string of X's. This also only works on strings - not on numeric types or dates. - random(lower-bound, upper-bound) replaces the field's original value with a randomly-generated number between 1 and 10. This, of course, only works with numeric data types like INT. - Now, it's worth noting that if you want to give a particular user - or role - the ability to see all of the data in its unmasked form, then you can simply grant them the UNMASK privilege. Annoyingly, this doesn't seem to work on a table level, only for the entire database.

Database Design: Surrogate keys | what is Surrogate key? | Surrogate key in SQL

09:54
Surrogate keys are auto incremented numbers that have no real world meaning. Auto incremented means that each row will have the next highest number. Keep in mind that the one that you should use can vary depending upon the purpose of your database. Surrogate key example Surrogate primary key SQL surrogate key What is a surrogate key? Surrogate key definition Follow me: https://www.facebook.com/munir.du https://twitter.com/munir_du https://www.linkedin.com/in/md-munir-hussain Contact me: [email protected] Surrogate Key In Database Design =========================== In database design, it is a good practice to have a primary key for each table. There are two ways to specify a primary key: The first is to use part of the data as the primary key. For example, a table that includes information on employees may use Social Security Number as the primary key. This type of key is called a natural key. The second is to use a new field with artificially-generated values whose sole purpose is to be used as a primary key. This is called a surrogate key. A surrogate key has the following characteristics:  Surrogate key is a unique identification key, it is like an artificial or alternative key to production key, because the production key may be alphanumeric or composite key but the surrogate key is always single numeric key.  It is typically an integer.  Surrogate key is system generated artificial primary key values.  Surrogate key is a substitution for the natural primary key.  It is just a unique identifier or number for each row that can be used for the primary key to the table. The only requirement for a surrogate primary key is that it is unique for each row in the table.  It has no meaning. You will not be able to know the meaning of that row of data based on the surrogate key value.  It is not visible to end users. End users should not see a surrogate key in a report.  Data warehouses typically use a surrogate, (also known as artificial or identity key), key for the dimension tables primary keys.  It is useful because the natural primary key (i.e. Customer Number in Customer table) can change and this makes updates more difficult. Way to generate surrogate keys: Surrogate keys can be generated in a variety of ways, and most databases offer ways to generate surrogate keys. For example, Oracle uses SEQUENCE, MySQL uses AUTO_INCREMENT, and SQL Server uses IDENTITY. Use of surrogate keys: Surrogate keys are often used in data warehousing systems, as the high data volume in a data warehouse means that optimizing query speed becomes important. Using a surrogate key is advantageous because it is quicker to join on a numeric field rather than a non-numeric field. There are no hard rules on when to employ a surrogate key as opposed to using the natural key. Often the data architect would need to look at the nature of the data being modeled and stored and consider any possible performance implications. The following are examples of when it makes sense to use a surrogate key: When different source systems use different keys for the same record. When we integrate the systems, instead of picking one set of keys, it is often better to use a surrogate key. Thanks for linking, commenting, sharing and watching more of our videos

And what I want to do is continue to use that Servlet demo project that we had in the previous video. And the first thing I need to do, as far as my step one, is creating the HTML form. I will move to this web content directory, I will do a right click, I will choose new and file. The actual file I am going to create here is called student form dot html. Once you are happy with that name, you can go ahead and click on the finish button. This will give us a very empty file here or blank file and we need to add some data here. I will first start off with my normal HTML housekeeping. HTML and then the body tags and that's the basic stuff there. And now what I need to do is go ahead and create my HTML form. With this form, we are going to have action equals student Servlets, or calling it student Servlet, and we are going to use the method equals get. That's the HTTP method, that's going to map over to our do get method in our Servlet. All right, so now let's go ahead and set up our HTML form fields. I will start off here with the first name, input type equals text, name equals first name. And then I'll do a similar thing here for last name, I'll say input type equals text, name equals last name. So again remember, these form field names, these are the actual names that you'll use in the actual Servlet code for reading that data. So you have to make sure that you use the same names in the Servlet code. I'll just copy this line break, put it down here. And then finally, I'll wrap it up with a submit button. Input type equals submit, value equals submit. And that's basically it for our HTML form, so it's going to send data over to the student Servlet and going to use the method of get. All right, so this looks really good. Good job so far. All right, so I'll save this file. Now the next thing we need to do as our step two is actually creating the Servlet. So I'll move up to this Java resources directory. I'll move down to the package that I created in a previous video, our Servlet demo package. I'll simply right click, I'll say new, Servlet. The name I'll use for the Servlet is student Servlet, so we'll use the same name that we reference here in the actual HTML form. And once we're happy with this, we can go ahead and click the finish button. All right, so over on our far left side here, we have this new student Servlet dot java that was created by Eclipse and it generated a lot of good code for us that we can start with. It helps jump start our development process. Up top, we have this at web Servlet annotation, slash Servlet, so that's basically the name that we'll use for calling it Servlet. We have our Servlet class that extends HTTP Servlet. We've seen all of this stuff before. Let me just clear out some white space here. And this is our do get method. This is the method that gets called when the actual HTML form submits the data because they are using the method equals get. All right, so let me clear out that auto generated code, and let me write my own code. And just like I did before, I always like to write some comments, just to tell myself what I need to do. So the first step is I need to set the content type. And then step two, I need to actually get the print writer. And then finally, step three is where I do my real work. This is where I generate the HTML content. All right, good, so this is my game plan as far as what I need to do, my work. All right, well let's go ahead and dig in. Let's start with step one. Set the content type, I use response dot set content type. [Snip] for complete transcript of JSP tutorial, select "More ... Transcript"

We're going to get our hands dirty by creating a "Helloworld" Servlet. The first thing I want to do is create a new project. I'll say, "file," "new," and "dynamic web project." For the name of the project I'll actually call it "Servlet Demo." Then I'll keep all the other defaults here: Apache Tomcat eight, version 3.1, everything else the same. Then I'll go ahead and click on "next." Here we'll just go ahead and keep the defaults here for the default outlet server. I hit "next," and then for the context root and content directory I'll keep the defaults, and also I'll check the box here for "generate web.xml." The context root is the actual name of our application once we deploy the Servlet demo. I'll go ahead and hit "finish." Now we should have a new project here out to the left called "Servlet demo." We have a web content directory and it's empty right now. The first thing I want to do here is create a new Servlet, so I just right click on a project, I say "new," and I move down to "Servlet." For this Servlet I give a job a package name, so I just call it "com.luv2code.servletdemo" and that's just the name of the package for grouping these classes together. The actual class name, I'll call it, "Helloworld Servlet." Once I'm happy with that I go ahead and click on the "next" button. Here they have the Servlet name, I'll keep it as is. I'll accept all the other defaults. I'll move ahead and click "next." Here they can tell us which methods they want to create for us on the fly, so right now we'll go ahead and accept the defaults. They're going to create a "do get" and a "do post" method. We'll go ahead and keep all the defaults here. We'll just hit "finish." Great, so this looks similar to the code that we had in the PowerPoint slides, but Eclipse generated a lot of this for us. They created a new package, and they also have the new Servlet.java files so this is really good, this is a good jump start for our Servlet development. Let's go ahead and dig into the Servlet and just kind of see how it works here. First on line 14 we simply have our Helloworld Servlet, so public class "HelloWorldServlet, extends HttpServlet," and we also have that declaration there. Up on line 13 we have our "@webServlet." This is an annotation that gives an actual path, or the URL for us to actually access this Servlet. Let's go ahead and look at some of the code. There's a lot of generated code. What I want to do here is take a look at the "do get" method. This is the one method that we override, where we're going to actually provide our response so when the browser makes a call to our Servlet, then it'll actually access or call the "do get" method. This "do get" method has a request and a response. The interior there I'm going to remove, that was all the auto-generated code and I want to get my own custom code here. Let's go ahead and write some code. First off I always like to put out the comments as far as what I need to do here. For step one I need to actually set the content type. Then for step two I need to get a handle to our print writer that I'll use for sending back data. Step three is actually generating the html code on the fly. Those are the three main steps as far as what we need to do inside of this "do get" method. Let me just get some white space here just so we can kind of have some room to work with. For setting the content type we have two parameters coming in. We have the request object coming in, and it has all of the form data coming in from the browser, and then the response object. That's our handle that goes back to the browser. [Snip] for complete transcript of JSP tutorial, select "More ... Transcript"

The Magic of SQL: Column Update Mystery

07:20
You use the update statement in SQL to modify existing values in a row. Normally you have to assign values to each column explicitly. In this video Chris updates the value in one column and also changes the value in another column - without any triggers in sight! Lets learn to talk to GC logs by Poonam Parhar

28:36
With JEP 271, GC logging has been re-implemented to use the Unified JVM Logging Framework introduced with JEP 158. Unified JVM logging introduced a new JVM option -Xlog, and also defined the category tags for all the different components of the JVM. With 'gc' tag specified for the GC logging, -Xlog:gc option along with the other granular tag-sets, levels and decorations can be used to enable the GC logging for different parts of the GC system at various levels of detail. This talk discusses the GC logging JVM options that are going to be removed in Java 9, and covers in detail the parameters that can be used with Xlog:gc option to get the GC logging equivalent to what we could produce with the now removed JVM options. This session will also take a deep dive into looking at the sample GC logs generated with the new logging mechanism, and will throw light on how those logs can be read and interpreted. Poonam Parhar, currently a JVM Sustaining Engineer at Oracle where her primary responsibility is to resolve customer escalated problems against JRockit and HotSpot JVMs. She loves debugging and troubleshooting problems, and is always focused on improving the serviceability and supportability of the JVM. She has nailed down many complex Garbage Collection issues in the HotSpot JVM, and is passionate about improving the debugging tools and the serviceability of the product so as to make it easier to troubleshoot and fix Garbage Collector related issues in the JVM. In an attempt to help the customers and the Java community, she shares her work experiences and knowledge through the blog she maintains here: https://blogs.oracle.com/poonam/.
