Beneath the North Sea (1977) - Oil Exploration in the North Sea - UK Industrial Film
From BFI database: Records the process of the discovery of oil in the Beryl Field in the North Sea through to its eventual production. Uses animated sequences to explain the geology of the area and how oil was formed there, before illustrating the building and positioning of the "Beryl" platform -- a two-storey platform supported by three concrete towers. The film comments on the importance of oil production, especially the Beryl 'A' Platform, in regard to Britain's independence and economic status in 1977. Produced by Michael Forlong Productions for Mobil. This is a new digital transfer from a vintage 16mm library print.

UK Jets Intercept Russian Tu-160 Bombers Above North Sea. 15/01/2018.
Odo Puiu Events invites you to watch …. UK Jets Intercept Russian Tu-160 Bombers Above North Sea Footage released by UK Ministry of Defence show Royal Air Force Typhoon jets flying alongside two long-range Russian fighter jets as they flew above the North Sea near the United Kingdom's airspace on Monday. The UK Ministry of Defence said that RAF fighter jets from Scotland's Lossiemouth airfield intercepted Russian Tupolev Tu-160s about 48 km (30 miles) from UK airspace and escorted them away. The Russian Defence Ministry responded in a statement saying: "All flights by Russian aircraft are performed in strict accordance with international rules for using airspace without infringement on any countries' borders." According to the Russian MoD, the duration of the flight exceeded 13 hours, during which crews of the strategical missile-carriers Tu-160 completed reloading in the air. The statement added that Russian airplanes were accompanied by Eurofighter Typhoon BBC and the F-16 of Belgium Air Military Force. According to reports, this is not the first incident occurring between Russian and UK air forces. In September 2017, UK scrambled jets to monitor a pair of Russian planes approaching the country's airspace. Thanks for watching. NORTHSEAKAYAK - The North Sea Crossing 2018
I took on the challenge of crossing the North Sea by sea kayak a second time. I started my attempt on 01/08/2018 at 01:00 hours (local time) at Nieuwpoort harbor, Belgium. I paddled during the spring tide period, with strong tidal streams. I spend exactly 17hours and 48 minutes on the North Sea to reach Ramsgate harbor. I achieved my second record solo and unsupported. There will be a more detailed report of the crossing to be found on the P&H website (team paddlers blog) for those who are interested. The specifications: Sea kayak: P&H Cetus Mv (customized Kevlar-carbon expedition version) Paddles: VE Explorer (medium blades + spare paddle) Full safety gear including VHF radio, PLB, pyrotechnical flare, ODEO flare, cell phone, first aid kit, repair kit, paddle-float, pump…………... I wish to thank my family from all my heart for their continuously and unconditional support on all that I do or undertake! Were it not for them, I would not have done this. Thank you, thank you! Special thanks to the people from Ostend Radio (MRCC Oostende-Belgian Coast Guard) and Dover Coast Guard (UK) for virtually watching over me during the crossing, again! Paddle safe and take care of each other on the water! Dimitri Vandepoele

BREAKING: UK fighter jets intercept Russian bombers in the North Sea | Tu-160 vs RAF Typhoon
✅ Top Stories Today - A pair of Russian nuclear-capable bombers buzzed the British coastline along the North Sea on Thursday while ignoring repeated radio calls, according to the U.K.’s ministry of defense. Royal Air Force (RAF) Typhoon fighter jets on alert launched from a base in Scotland to intercept the bombers. “The Russian Blackjacks... were not talking to air traffic control, making them a hazard to all other aviation,” said a statement from the British military. “Russian bombers probing U.K. airspace is another reminder of the very serious military challenge that Russia poses us today,” said British Defense Secretary Gavin Williamson. “We will not hesitate to continually defend our skies from acts of aggression. Once again the rapid reactions of our RAF have demonstrated how vital our Armed Forces are in protecting Britain,” he added. The Russian Tu-160 supersonic long-range bombers never entered British airspace. The Royal Air Force launched fighter jets because the Russian aircraft were ignoring air traffic controllers, the statement said. ✅ Video/Thumbnail Picture just For Illustration ✅ What do you think of this video? Worst tidal surge in 60 years batters UK east coast and drags homes into the sea
Subscribe to ITN News: http://bit.ly/itnytsub Homes were destroyed as the worst tidal surge to hit the UK in 60 years struck the east coast of Britain on Thursday. The Environmental Agency estimated that sea defences protected more than 800,000 homes, but when the surge combined with high tides and strong winds many barriers were breached. Repair works are now underway in many communities. In Hemsby in Norfolk seven houses were toppled from their clifftop positions and collapsed into the sea. Thousands of homes along the east coast were evacuated as the North Sea reached higher levels than it did during the devastating floods of 1953. Two people died in Thursday's storms, but the weather is now said to be easing, however, flooding is expected to continue throughout Friday. Report by Laurie Blake. North Sea Oil - 1975
At Dyce near Aberdeen, Her Majesty the Queen presses the button that sends the first North Sea Oil flowing into the Grangemouth Refinery. It marks the fruition of years of research, technology, hard work and grim determination. From the Forties Field by under sea pipeline, a marvel itself in engineering, the oil comes ashore at Cruden Bay. It travels then by underground pipes to the BP Refinery at Grangemouth. To the people of Aberdeen oil has already meant a change in their life style, could it also be the turning point in Britain's economy. The Greatest Storm 1953 Full documentry "Timewatch" (2003)
"Timewatch" The Greatest Storm (2003) In January of 1953, unusual weather conditions caused Britain's worst national peacetime disaster of the 20th century. A storm surge flooded the eastern coast of England, killing more than 300 people and leaving thousands homeless. Fifty years later, 'Timewatch' re-examines a calamity which is largely forgotten today. About the Princess Victoria. Sixty years ago, the MV Princess Victoria sank off the County Down coast in treacherous weather, with the loss of 133 lives. . One of the worst to happen in British coastal waters - dominated the headlines and devastated families and communities in Larne, Stranraer and further afield. 31 January 1953. Parts of western Europe and the UK were in the grip of freak weather from the north Atlantic killing hundreds of people. Timeline of disaster 0745: Princess Victoria leaves Stranraer 0900: Wave bursts through stern doors 0946: First emergency signal sent: No tugs available 1032: SOS call: "Car deck flooded" 1100: Portpatrick lifeboat given wrong directions 1300: Starboard engine room flooded - position critical 1308: Ship lying on beam end 1315: "We are preparing to abandon ship" 1330: Steamer passes Victoria without seeing her 1340: Passengers ordered to deck 1358: Last message from ferry's radio operator Larne man, John McKnight, 92, is one of the few remaining survivors. He was chief cook on the ferry and remembers that day vividly. (Deceased 2 weeks after interview) "I started work at 5.30am and the train from London arrived (in Stranraer) at 6am. Everything had to be prepared for breakfast, we served that to the passengers before setting sail. The ferry proceeded up Loch Ryan and soon we discovered that there was a severe gale blowing," he recalled. At the helm of the Princess Victoria that day was 55-year-old Captain James Ferguson. An experienced seaman, he had worked on the Larne - Stranraer route for many years. Jack Hunter, has written about the tragedy, With the stern doors irreparably damaged, water flooding the car deck and inadequate drainage on board, Captain Ferguson decided the best course of action was to try and steer the ship towards Northern Ireland. Stephen Cameron, author of a book on the Princess Victoria tragedy, said David Broadfoot was posthumously awarded the George Cross for his heroic actions. When Captain Ferguson made the final call to abandon ship, eyewitnesses say he was at the bridge as the Princess Victoria went under. It happened just five miles off the Copeland Islands and within sight of the north Down coast. On two previous occasions - in 1949 and 1951 - these same design faults had caused problems on the ferry. Jack Hunter believes if they had been fixed back then, things might have been very different. "Most certainly, it is a disaster that could have, and should have been avoided. The problems were discovered, they were known to be there, one assumes they were reported through official channels, yet nothing was done about them," Whatever the causes of the Princess Victoria sinking to a watery grave on that stormy Saturday afternoon in January 1953, the passing of time has not erased the sorrow felt by many, whose loved ones went down with the ship. They are commemorated every year at services in Larne, Stranraer and in Donaghadee -and on the forthcoming 60th anniversary, the overriding sentiment will remain the same. Never forget.

Lost City Of Atlantis Found In North Sea?
Support Us On Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/MysteryHistory We Are Also On Steemit: https://steemit.com/@mysteryhistory Divers from oil companies located within the north sea, have been discovering the remains of a drowned ancient city which once spanned from the UK all the way to Denmark. An ancient city so massive its suspected population has been estimated well into the tens of thousands. A team of climatologists, archaeologists and geophysicists, have now successfully mapped the area, which has revealed just how vast and expansive this once 'lost land once was, many specialists are now claiming this was once the 'real heartland' of Europe. This enormous civilization is now believed to have dated back to some 8000 years ago, and that the land mass was submerged over a period of several thousand years, a submersion which began some 20,000 years prior. Dr Richard Bates of the Department of Earth Sciences at St Andrews, who organised the Drowned Landscapes exhibit, covering the finds within the UK, says the data reveals the human story behind Doggerland, a now submerged city of the North Sea that was once larger than many modern European countries. Could these discoveries reveal doggerland as the real lost city of Atlantis? Several hypotheses have placed the sunken island of Atlantis within modern northern Europe, most noted among such researchers is Olaus Rudbeck. Who suspected that Doggerland, as well as Viking Bergen Island, which is thought to have been flooded by a megatsunami following the Storegga slide in 6100 BC, is the real location of Atlantis, a proposition he put forward all the way back in the 16 hundreds. Some have proposed the Celtic Shelf as a possible location, and that there is certainly links to Ireland. Many places have been put forward for the possible location of the sunken city throughout the years, yet none have revealed ruins worthy of such claims, many of these areas being too small to have housed such an enormous city. Doggerland however, fits the bill, not only could it turn out to be the largest ancient civilization found on earth, but it also rests in a possible location, based on historical research, for the city of Atlantis, it was submerged at one point in its history, and it is revealing astonishing ruins of a once great and presently unknown civilization. Dr Bates, a geophysicist, said: ‘Doggerland was the real heartland of Europe until sea levels rose to give us the UK coastline of today. ‘We have speculated for years on the lost land's existence from bones dredged by fishermen all over the North Sea, but it's only since working with oil companies in the last few years that we have been able to re-create what this lost land looked like. ‘When the data was first being processed, I thought it unlikely to give us any useful information, however as more area was covered, it revealed a vast and complex landscape. ‘We have now been able to model its flora and fauna, build up a picture of the ancient people that lived there, and begin to understand some of the dramatic events that subsequently changed the land, including the sea rising and a devastating tsunami.’ The research project is a collaboration between St Andrews and the Universities of Aberdeen, Birmingham, Dundee and Wales Trinity St David. http://thesecretlandofatlantis.weebly.com/
