Linear Algebra on Khan Academy: Have you ever wondered what the difference is between speed and velocity? Ever try to visualize in four dimensions or six or seven? Linear algebra describes things in two dimensions, but many of the concepts can be extended into three, four or more. Linear algebra implies two dimensional reasoning, however, the concepts covered in linear algebra provide the basis for multi-dimensional representations of mathematical reasoning. Matrices, vectors, vector spaces, transformations, eigenvectors/values all help us to visualize and understand multi dimensional concepts. This is an advanced course normally taken by science or engineering majors after taking at least two semesters of calculus (although calculus really isn't a prereq) so don't confuse this with regular high school algebra.

Explains how to use the cross product of two vectors to find the distance from a point to a line. Basically you find two points on your line. Create two vectors, one from a point on the line to the point in space; one between the two points on the line. We then use the fact that the area of a parallelogram determined by two vectors is the magnitude of their cross product to find the "height" of this parallelogram, which is the distance from the point to the line.

An example of finding the shortest distance between two lines in 3D space which do not intersect.
The lines are specified only by a point on them and their direction vectors, and from this general points on each line are established in terms of parameters.
The resulting vector from one point to the other then leads to the parameters of the points required and the distance between them.
The same general vector would give the point of intersection if its components could form the zero vector.

-type your 2 vectors in curly braces separated by commas

Input "{D,E,F}=",L4
