Oracle SQL PLSQL 12C Tutorial 7 - How to Insert Record or Data in Table

04:23
This Video Tutorial Will Describe how to insert values or data into the table in oracle 12C version. This command will also work on other versions of database like Oracle 11g Database, Oracle 10g Database, Oracle 9i Database, Oracle 8i Database, Oracle 8 Database and so on. Whenever you create a new table in oracle, you need to insert some data into that table otherwise that table is not usable. Example to select data, to update data and delete data, you first need to insert some data. Full Syntax will be given in this video tutorial about how to insert records in oracle database table. Along with the live example to insert records. All the keywords, format, mandatory clauses etc are described in this video. In this video, I use the INSERT command to add an entire record into a table. When using the command you must also use the keyword VALUES. If you want to enter a null value (one that has no value) for a field you can use the keyword NULL. Be sure to put single quotes around data types that are not numbers. Values need to be entered in the order the fields appear in the table.

How to Insert Into Table In SQL

02:46
Follow this step by step easy tutorial to learn how to insert data into the tables in SQL Server Database via queries. Don't forget to check out our site http://howtech.tv/ for more free how-to videos! http://youtube.com/ithowtovids - our feed http://www.facebook.com/howtechtv - join us on facebook https://plus.google.com/103440382717658277879 - our group in Google+ The data inside the database is held by the tables. The data can be inserted in these tables either by the queries or even with a straightaway Graphical method. In this tutorial we will see both the methods. Step 1 -- Locating the Appropriate Database First of all, we need to locate and expand the database where that particular table is present. After that, expand the table's directory. Then we will insert the data in the Inventory table. If we move into the column section, it can be seen that there are four fields which have to be added, namely the ID, the Product Name, the Quantity and the Price. Step 2 -- Writing query for inserting record Now to insert in table, SQL query would be: Insert into Inventory (id,Product, quantity, price) values (1,'abc',12,255.32); Make sure that each value is separated by a comma. Once done, simply press F5 to execute the query. At the bottom, in the messages section, a message will appear about table rows that have been affected. Step 3 -- Another Method of Insertion We can also insert data in a table by simply giving the values straight away. For that just write the following query: Insert into Inventory values (1,'ab2',30,300.36); Make sure that the values in query in SQL inserted into table are in the same order as the order of columns in the table. Now let's execute this query and in the messages section, you can see the rows that have been affected. To insert in table, SQL queries are required to be written with much care as error can arise if we just miss to insert ellipsis even. Step 4 -- Viewing Table Data Now let's check the table to see if the data has been inserted correctly. For that let us fetch all records from the inventory table and for that, write: Select * from inventory When we execute the query, you can see all the records in the results section below, and they are exactly the same as we mentioned in the query in earlier steps. Step 5 --Alternate Method of inserting data To insert in table, SQL provides another way through which we don't have to write SQL insert into table queries. For that, just right click on the inventory table and choose the 'Edit top 200 rows' option. Step 6 -- Inserting data in Fields Over here, we can start inserting the data in the table straight away, without using the queries. All we have to do is type the records in the fields and press enter to save the changes made in each field. And that is how data is inserted in tables in SQL using insert keyword.
SQL with Oracle 10g XE - Using INSERT to Add Data to a Table

06:20
In this video I use the INSERT command to add an entire record into a table. When using the command you must also use the keyword VALUES. If you want to enter a null value (one that has no value) for a field you can use the keyword NULL. Be sure to put single quotes around data types that are not numbers. Values need to be entered in the order the fields appear in the table. The commands I used are: INSERT INTO BOOKS VALUES (1,'140231862','9780140231861','The Winter King: A Novel of Arthur','Fiction','14.99','P',1996,1,2) INSERT INTO BOOKS VALUES ('2','140232478','9780140232479','Enemy of God: A Novel of Arthor','Fiction',14.99,'P','1997',1,2); INSERT INTO BOOKS VALUES ('3','140232877','9780140232875','Excalibur: A Novel of Arthor','Fiction',14.99,'P','1998',1,2); INSERT INTO BOOKS VALUES ('4','6513840','9780006513841','Harlequin: Grail Quest','Fiction',19.99,'P','2001',1,1); INSERT INTO BOOKS VALUES ('5','6513859','9780006513858','Vagabond: Grail Quest','Fiction',19.99,'P','2003',1,1); INSERT INTO BOOKS VALUES ('6','7149891','9780007149896','Heretic: Grail Quest','Fiction',19.99,'P','2004',1,1); INSERT INTO BOOKS VALUES ('7','553103547','9780553103540','A Game of Thrones','Fiction',13.99,'H','1996',2,4); INSERT INTO BOOKS VALUES ('8','553801473','9780553801477','A Dance with Dragons','Fiction',13.99,'H','2010',2,5); INSERT INTO BOOKS VALUES ('9','055357342X','9780553573428','A Storm of Swords','Fiction',4.99,'P','2003',2,4); INSERT INTO BOOKS VALUES ('10','1596590424','9781596590427','50 Success Classics','Audio',17.99,NULL,NULL,3,3) INSERT INTO AUTHOR VALUES (1,'Cornwell','Bernard'); INSERT INTO AUTHOR VALUES (2,'Martin','George'); INSERT INTO AUTHOR VALUES (3,'Butler','Tom'); INSERT INTO PUBLISHER VALUES (1,'HarperCollins Publishers Canada, Limited'); INSERT INTO PUBLISHER VALUES (2,'Penguin Books Canada, Limited'); INSERT INTO PUBLISHER VALUES (3,'Gildan Media Corp'); INSERT INTO PUBLISHER VALUES (4,'Bantam Dell Pub Group'); INSERT INTO PUBLISHER VALUES (5,'Spectra'); This video is part of a series of videos with the purpose of learning the SQL language. In case you miss the SQL functions intro video you can find the link in the description below. First let's see what these functions are. Upper (): This function takes a parameter converts it into uppercase and returns the new string. Initcap (): this function also takes parameter and converts the initial letter of or parameter into uppercase and returns the new string. Lower (): This function takes a parameter converts it into lowercase and returns the new string. Ok let's do some practical For this practical we will be using 2 tables First is dual table Which is a dummy table provided by oracle? And I have created another table again by the name of example. This will be our second table. Let's start with SQL function upper ( ); SELECT upper('hello world') FROM dual; As you can see I have used "hello world" completely in lowercase as parameter to SQL upper function. Execute it. Here, our result has given us a completely new hello world string which is in uppercase. Similarly you can also use SQL upper function to perform other DML Let's try This time we will work on our second table EXAMPLE; insert into example values (upper('manish')); first parentheses for values and second for SQL function upper. Let's check the result. As you can see here inserted value is in upper case. Lets compare it with simple insert query Insert into example values ('manish'); Execute it, i think now it's clear that when we perform simple insert DML the inserted value will be the same you provide. Similarly let's try SQL function initcap(); SELECT initcap('hello world') FROM dual; As you see here in result the initial letters of string hello world are in uppercase. Let's do the insert query insert into example values (initcap('hello world')); initial letters of string also are in uppercase. Let's try SQL function lower(); This time we have to write our hello world in all caps. SELECT lower('HELLO WORLD') FROM dual; Execute String totally in lower case. Similarly you can user SQL function lower in other DML like insert and all.

NTILE function in SQL Server

05:10
In this video we will discuss NTILE function in SQL Server NTILE function 1. Introduced in SQL Server 2005 2. ORDER BY Clause is required 3. PARTITION BY clause is optional 4. Distributes the rows into a specified number of groups 5. If the number of rows is not divisible by number of groups, you may have groups of two different sizes. 6. Larger groups come before smaller groups For example NTILE(2) of 10 rows divides the rows in 2 Groups (5 in each group) NTILE(3) of 10 rows divides the rows in 3 Groups (4 in first group, 3 in 2nd & 3rd group) Syntax : NTILE (Number_of_Groups) OVER (ORDER BY Col1, Col2, ...) SQL Script to create Employees table Create Table Employees ( Id int primary key, Name nvarchar(50), Gender nvarchar(10), Salary int ) Go Insert Into Employees Values (1, 'Mark', 'Male', 5000) Insert Into Employees Values (2, 'John', 'Male', 4500) Insert Into Employees Values (3, 'Pam', 'Female', 5500) Insert Into Employees Values (4, 'Sara', 'Female', 4000) Insert Into Employees Values (5, 'Todd', 'Male', 3500) Insert Into Employees Values (6, 'Mary', 'Female', 5000) Insert Into Employees Values (7, 'Ben', 'Male', 6500) Insert Into Employees Values (8, 'Jodi', 'Female', 7000) Insert Into Employees Values (9, 'Tom', 'Male', 5500) Insert Into Employees Values (10, 'Ron', 'Male', 5000) Go NTILE function without PARTITION BY clause : Divides the 10 rows into 3 groups. 4 rows in first group, 3 rows in the 2nd & 3rd group. SELECT Name, Gender, Salary, NTILE(3) OVER (ORDER BY Salary) AS [Ntile] FROM Employees What if the specified number of groups is GREATER THAN the number of rows NTILE function will try to create as many groups as possible with one row in each group. With 10 rows in the table, NTILE(11) will create 10 groups with 1 row in each group. SELECT Name, Gender, Salary, NTILE(11) OVER (ORDER BY Salary) AS [Ntile] FROM Employees NTILE function with PARTITION BY clause : When the data is partitioned, NTILE function creates the specified number of groups with in each partition. The following query partitions the data into 2 partitions (Male & Female). NTILE(3) creates 3 groups in each of the partitions. SELECT Name, Gender, Salary, NTILE(3) OVER (PARTITION BY GENDER ORDER BY Salary) AS [Ntile] FROM Employees Link for all dot net and sql server video tutorial playlists https://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists?sort=dd&view=1 Link for slides, code samples and text version of the video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2015/10/ntile-function-in-sql-server.html

SQL Into - How to Copy Table Data with Select Into Statement - SQL Training Online

05:08
http://www.sqltrainingonline.com SQL Into - How to Copy Table Data with Select Into Statement - SQL Training Online In this video, I show you how to copy data using the SQL INTO statement. Including a trick to copy only a table schema in SQL Server. How do you copy a whole table in SQL Server? You often see the SQL INTO statement when you are using INSERT, but there is a special INTO statement in SQL Server that is used with the SELECT statement that allows you to make a copy of a table for development, testing, or whatever purpose you can think of. So, to start, let's take a look at the SQL Training Online Simple DB employee table. You can see that we have 14 records Now, all we have to do to make a copy of the table is to simply add the SQL INTO clause: SELECT * INTO EMPLOYEE_TEST FROM EMPLOYEE If we run that, you see that we made a copy of the table with all of the data. Now, I want to go ahead and empty the employee_test table and show you how to use the INSERT INTO. If you already have a copy of the table, (I will show you a shortcut in a minute on how to create a copy without data.) then you can use the following insert into statement: INSERT INTO EMPLOYEE_TEST SELECT * FROM EMPLOYEE After running that statement, you see that I have inserted data from the Employee table into the employee_test table. This is sometimes referred to as INSERT INTO SELECT. But, there is one trick that I have used throughout the years that is pretty cool. Sometimes, you want the table schema, but you don't want the data. Now, I know that you can use Management Studio to script out the table for you, but there is an easier way that is more flexible as far as I am concerned. That is to use the SELECT INTO FROM, but put the following in the WHERE clause: SELECT * INTO EMPLOYEE_TEST FROM EMPLOYEE WHERE 1=2 The 1=2 makes is so not data will come over, but you get the new table with the right column types. Is that pretty cool? I have found many uses for this over the years. Let me know what you think bellow. Let me know what you think by commenting or sharing on twitter, facebook, google+, etc. If you enjoy the video, please give it a like, comment, or subscribe to my channel. Lead and Lag functions in SQL Server 2012

07:27
In this video we will discuss about Lead and Lag functions. Lead and Lag functions Introduced in SQL Server 2012 Lead function is used to access subsequent row data along with current row data Lag function is used to access previous row data along with current row data ORDER BY clause is required PARTITION BY clause is optional Syntax LEAD(Column_Name, Offset, Default_Value) OVER (ORDER BY Col1, Col2, ...) LAG(Column_Name, Offset, Default_Value) OVER (ORDER BY Col1, Col2, ...) Offset - Number of rows to lead or lag. Default_Value - The default value to return if the number of rows to lead or lag goes beyond first row or last row in a table or partition. If default value is not specified NULL is returned. We will use the following Employees table for the examples in this video SQL Script to create the Employees table Create Table Employees ( Id int primary key, Name nvarchar(50), Gender nvarchar(10), Salary int ) Go Insert Into Employees Values (1, 'Mark', 'Male', 1000) Insert Into Employees Values (2, 'John', 'Male', 2000) Insert Into Employees Values (3, 'Pam', 'Female', 3000) Insert Into Employees Values (4, 'Sara', 'Female', 4000) Insert Into Employees Values (5, 'Todd', 'Male', 5000) Insert Into Employees Values (6, 'Mary', 'Female', 6000) Insert Into Employees Values (7, 'Ben', 'Male', 7000) Insert Into Employees Values (8, 'Jodi', 'Female', 8000) Insert Into Employees Values (9, 'Tom', 'Male', 9000) Insert Into Employees Values (10, 'Ron', 'Male', 9500) Go Lead and Lag functions example WITHOUT partitions : This example Leads 2 rows and Lags 1 row from the current row. When you are on the first row, LEAD(Salary, 2, -1) allows you to move forward 2 rows and retrieve the salary from the 3rd row. When you are on the first row, LAG(Salary, 1, -1) allows us to move backward 1 row. Since there no rows beyond row 1, Lag function in this case returns the default value -1. When you are on the last row, LEAD(Salary, 2, -1) allows you to move forward 2 rows. Since there no rows beyond the last row 1, Lead function in this case returns the default value -1. When you are on the last row, LAG(Salary, 1, -1) allows us to move backward 1 row and retrieve the salary from the previous row. SELECT Name, Gender, Salary, LEAD(Salary, 2, -1) OVER (ORDER BY Salary) AS Lead_2, LAG(Salary, 1, -1) OVER (ORDER BY Salary) AS Lag_1 FROM Employees Lead and Lag functions example WITH partitions : Notice that in this example, Lead and Lag functions return default value if the number of rows to lead or lag goes beyond first row or last row in the partition. SELECT Name, Gender, Salary, LEAD(Salary, 2, -1) OVER (PARTITION By Gender ORDER BY Salary) AS Lead_2, LAG(Salary, 1, -1) OVER (PARTITION By Gender ORDER BY Salary) AS Lag_1 FROM Employees Text version of the video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2015/10/lead-and-lag-functions-in-sql-server.html Slides http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2015/10/lead-and-lag-functions-in-sql-server_5.html All SQL Server Text Articles http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/p/free-sql-server-video-tutorials-for.html All SQL Server Slides http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/p/sql-server.html All Dot Net and SQL Server Tutorials in English https://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists?view=1&sort=dd All Dot Net and SQL Server Tutorials in Arabic https://www.youtube.com/c/KudvenkatArabic/playlists
