Phase One Media Pro - http://www.phaseone.com/media-pro For many users, the best way to use Media Pro is to make a single comprehensive catalog, as long as there are no more than 128,000 files to catalog. If you need to catalog more files than that, you'll need to decide how to divide the images or other media files into separate catalogs. There are several commonly used approaches for this. Files may be divided by classes of file types, making separate catalogs for images, audio files, video files, and fonts, for instance. If you have more of any single class of files than can fit into one catalog, you might also want to divide the files by bodies of work, or by year, or between raw and derivative files. This video outlines several strategies and considerations for the scope of your catalogs.

NeoFinder is the Digital Asset Manager for Mac and Windows (with the separate abeMeda for Windows) https://www.cdfinder.de Catalog your data with NeoFinder Before NeoFinder can find all your data, it is important to catalog it first. That is quite easy. Use the main menu. Or the PLUS button. Or just drag a volume or a folder into the LIBRARY of NeoFinder. You did know that NeoFinder can catalog just folders, too? This is the most important settings window. The Cataloging Preferences decide, what data gets added to the NeoFinder catalog, and what not. This greatly influences what NeoFinder can find, but also the speed of cataloging, and the resulting catalog size, so make sure you set it up to your needs. Set it all up for Photos Size of thumbnails. Larger than 640? Sure. Extended Format Videos Songs Fonts Text contents Archives DMG! Only NeoFinder can do that! What to ignore Comments FileCheck Tags Bundle versions Serial number Settings are stored inside the catalog for Updating! Updating is needed when files in the catalog have been changed, deleted or added, to keep NeoFinder up to speed as to what happens on your disks. When all is cataloged, you can browse through the data, just as you would with the Finder. But now you will also be able to Find it all with NeoFinder!! Enjoy!

Catalog your data with CDFinder https://www.cdfinder.de CDFinder is now called NeoFinder, and with a new Adobe XMP Editor, NeoFinder now rocks even more! CDFinder is a Digital Asset Manager for Macintosh and Windows http://www.cdwinder.de The software catalogs any type of data (photos, movies, songs, documents), on any device (hard disk, CD, DVD, Blu-ray, USB sticks, server volumes, iPods, etc.) and offers powerful Find features to quickly locate your data. The extensive support of metadata (Adobe XMP, EXIF, IPTC, MP3, and more) also increases the abilities to locate our files anywhere. - For CDFinder to work its magic finding your hidden digital treasures, it first needs to catalog your data once. You can simply click the "Catalog Disk" button to catalog an entire disk. Just select it from the list of mounted volumes, done. Or you can simply drag a disk from the Finder into the left side of the CDFinder window. That will also start cataloging it. Of course, CDFinder cannot just catalog entire disks, that would be lame. You can also just catalog important folders. Again either drag them from the Finder into the left part of the CDFinder window, or use the "Catalog Folder" menu command. Hint: The menus of CDFinder hold a lot of interesting functions, make sure you have a look at them... To help you find your data better, CDFinder not simply reads the names of your files and folders when cataloging, but it can also read a huge amount of helpful additional data as well, such as photo thumbnails, or the MP3 tags of song files. You control what CDFinder catalogs with the Preferences. Here, in the "Cataloging" section, you can tell CDFinder for which types of files you wish to have a thumbnail, and what size it should have. The Media-Info is even more extensive, and covers video, photo, as well as audio files. But CDFinder can do a lot more! During cataloging, it can peek inside compressed archive files to gather their content, detecting ZIP, RAR, TAR, and other formats. CDFinder is even the first cataloger on the Mac that can catalog the contents of disk image files for you! And sometimes there is unwanted information you don't need, so you can ignore things like invisible files or folders, icon and alias files, or the contents of bundles or file packages, such as applications, to speed up cataloging and to create a cleaner catalog. That wasn't all yet! CDFinder can attach a serial number to any new catalog - making filing large numbers of disks easier, and CDFinder can even catalog version info of files and their Spotlight or Finder comments. CDFinder can also generate a FileCheck value for every file it catalogs. That is powerful if you are concerned about long time storage. At any time, you can ask CDFinder to verify these FileCheck values either for a particular file, or for an entire catalog, and you can then check that all files are in fact unchanged and safely stored. At last, you can control how much depth CDFinder catalogs. If you just need the top level items on your disks, set this up here. You can set all these preferences either globally, using the CDFinder Preferences window, but you can also tell CDFinder to show you these cataloging specific preferences for each volume you catalog. Just use this checkbox here, or hold down the Command key just before a cataloging process begins in CDFinder. Then you will see these options again, but they will then only apply to the disk you are about to catalog. And there is one more thing: If you have changed the content of a disk, you can ask CDFinder to update an existing catalog by selecting it, and using the "Update Catalog" in the File menu. Then, CDFinder will quickly run over the disk, update everything, while keeping your comments and labels for files and folders in that catalog alive. CDFinder - The Search is Over!

As you update the catalog in your Cadsoft software to incorporate more products, you will want to think about BIM files. A BIM file is a grouping of catalog elements that can be imported or exported out of your current catalog. As an example, Go to Help-Browse More Catalog Content. This takes you to a website where manufacturers store their content to use in Cadsoft software, so you can download products to import right into your catalog. All you have to do is register and then download the products that you want to use in Cadsoft. All of their products are saved as a .BIM file. Once you have downloaded the BIM file, in your Cadsoft software, go to File-Import- BIM to Catalog. There is also the BIM to Project option if you would only be using the BIM objects in a certain project but never again. The BIM to Catalog option will immediately open the "Open" dialog box, wanting you to find the .bim file you want to import. Locate it and click Open. Your current catalog will appear on the left column and the BIM file contents will appear on the right. You can select an entire group of elements to import, or just individual elements to bring over. This is very handy when looking at the various BIM files, some manufacturers have included several hundred items. If you don't use all of their items, don't import them. More items equals a larger catalog which equals a slower catalog. Be choosy. Select the transfer button for each element or group of elements you want to import and you will see the "Status" update as it imports. Once you are done click OK. The new catalog content has been added to your catalog. Now what about the Export feature. Do you have multiple seats of the software in your company, if you add new elements to your catalog on one machine, then use the Export BIM file and send them the products to the other computer. Or when Cadsoft updates we often include new catalog elements in the newest catalog. Open up that new catalog, export out the items you want and import them into your custom catalog. BIM files are a great way to import and export many catalog elements at once. I hope that makes your Cadsoft work, one step easier!
