oracle data guard configuration step by step in oracle 12c r2 new features for dba

41:06
This video will guide you to create an active data guard in ORACLE. _____________________________________________________ What is active dataguard? Oracle Data Guard is an effective and comprehensive method of achieving data availability, data protection, and disaster recovery solution for Oracle enterprise databases. It provides the management, monitoring, and automation software infrastructure to create and maintain one or more synchronized standby databases to protect data from failures, disasters, errors, and corruptions. _____________________________________________________ What does it mean? A standby database is initially created from a backup copy of the primary database. Once created, Data Guard automatically maintains the standby database as a transactional consistent copy of the primary database. Data Guard helps you protect your Data. Takes your data and automatically puts it elsewhere Makes it available for Failover in case of failure. _____________________________________________ When To Implement Data Guard? Failover A failover is done when the primary database (all instances of an Oracle RAC primary database) fails or has become unreachable and one of the standby databases is transitioned to take over the primary role. Failover should be performed when the primary database cannot be recovered in a timely manner. Failover may or may not result in data loss depending on the protection mode in effect at the time of the failover. Switchover A switchover is a role reversal between the primary database and one of its standby databases. A switchover guarantees no data loss and is typically done for planned maintenance of the primary system. During a switchover, the primary database transitions to a standby role, and the standby database transitions to the primary role. _______________________________________________ Components of Active Data Guard? Primary Database: A primary database is a production database. The primary database is used to create a standby database. Every standby database is associated with one and only one primary database. Standby Database: A physical or logical standby database is a database replica created from a backup of a primary database . A Data Guard configuration consists of one production (or primary) database and up to nine standby databases. The databases in a Data Guard configuration are connected by Oracle. _______________________________________________ Data Guard Benefits? Disaster/Failure Recovery and High Availability Complete Data Protection Efficient Utilization of System Resources Flexibility in Data Protection to Balance Availability Against Performance Requirements Protection from Communication Failures Fast-Start Failover Capabilities Centralized and Simple Management Integrated with Oracle Database RMAN(Recovery Manager) Fast Connection Failover

Oracle Dataguard switchover using dgmgrl

03:11
Manual Switchover to a single physical standby takes around eight different commands. How about if we told you that a switchover or failover could be reduced to a single command ? This demo show how easy to perform a switchover using dataguard broker. This is perform on a single database with 2 instance demonstrating how a switchover can be executed. Pre-req 1) init param : dg_broker_start=true, db_unique_name 2) listener.ora : static listener with dgmgrl 3) tnsnames.ora : sid name with those static service_names

Switchover Switchover is the act of change the standby database into the primary but in a controlled manor, the planned event means that it is safe from data loss because the primary database must complete all redo generation on the production data before allowing the switchover to commence. The switchback does not exists as it is a switchover but in the reserve order, which would restore the database back on its original server. This planned event normally happens during a quiet period, the reason for the switchover might be DR testing, patch, hardware changes, implementing RAC, etc. ======================================= Hi Folks, Greetings!! Reinstating a Database After a Failover

03:42
Prior to Oracle 10g, when a failover was performed, the old primary database could no longer be a member of the Oracle Data Guard configuration and had to be re-created (reinstated) from a backup of the new primary With Oracle 11g it is now possible to reinstate the database after a failover.

This video gives a quick demonstration of the Oracle Data Guard Broker. I've used standby databases since Oracle 8i and Data Guard since Oracle 9i, but I've always done the manual configuration. Since 10g the Data Guard Broker has been available to make life easier. For more information see: https://oracle-base.com/articles/12c/data-guard-setup-using-broker-12cr1 PS. Oracle Data Guard 11g - Overview Cascaded Redo Transport Destinations

10:45
We are know usually in traditionally data guard configurations standby databases receives primary database generated redo indirectly from primary. A cascaded redo transport destination receives primary database redo indirectly from a standby database rather than directly from a primary database. A standby database that cascades primary database redo to one or more cascaded destinations is known as a cascading standby database. Cascading has the following restrictions: A physical standby database is the only standby database type that can cascade redo The Data Guard broker does not support cascaded destinations Regards Mahir M.
