CSS3 Tutorial for Beginners: 14 How to Use a Custom Font Family With Google Fonts

10:04
CSS3 Tutorial for Beginners: 14 How to Use a Custom Font Family With Google Fonts ★ SUMMARY ★ Today what we're going to do is take a look at how you can change and modify your website's font using the google font feature. The reason you may want to do this is simply that you only have a handful of fonts available to use by default. And some other font services are very expensive. Instead, what you can do is use something like google fonts, embed that in your web page code and then go ahead and use that throughout your CSS. In this video, we'll take a look at how you can use some custom fonts from Google and make your website much more attractive and easier to read. I'm going to show you some of my favorite Google fonts, and I'll walk you through the process of embedding those fonts into your CSS code so that you can use them on your website. Also, you are going to take a look at the difference between some of the generic fonts vs. some Google fonts, and that way you'll be able to see how much more attractive your website can look when you use the Google Fonts feature. How to Change Google Fonts in an HTML Newsletter

03:14
Postcards – Drag and Drop Email Template Builder - https://designmodo.com/postcards/ In this video, I will show you how easily and quickly change Google Fonts in an HTML newsletter created in the Postcards application. Imagine you have exported an HTML template from Postcards and changed your mind about the fonts you used; now you want to change typefaces quickly without using the Postcards application. To do this, we'll make a few changes directly in the HTML code. First, open the index.html file and check the font used, it's Open Sans, but I want to change it. I have decided to use Roboto Slab, it's very different from Open Sans because I want to show you the real difference between fonts after the changes. Now go to the Google Fonts website and choose the Roboto Slab, next, click "Select this font", then click "Family selected fonts", and see the details of Roboto Slab. Let's see what styles we need. Here, in our code, we have 3 font styles: light, regular and bold, so I will use the same for my new font. Click the "Customize" tab and select light, regular and bold. You can select all of them, but we'll use only 3, you will see this in a few seconds. Now go back to the "Embed" tab and copy and paste this URL into the browser and open the link. Here we have the list of the styles for Roboto Slab. Back to code editor now, I will change this part of the code with the new part of code from Roboto Slab. Start by copying the "Font Face" code and paste to our editor in exchange of Open Sans font, here we have Roboto Slab in a light style. Next, copy the regular style of the font and paste it into the code editor. Then, copy the bold style of Roboto Slab and overwrite the Open Sans code. Done. We just need to make one more change so that we can see the Roboto Slab font in our newsletter. Change the Open Sans title in the Font Family of the style code directly in HTML, with the name Roboto Slab. Because we have more than 25 Open Sans titles in our HTML file, I will change all of them automatically using the "Replace" feature. So, in my editor, I will choose the "Find" item in the "Menu" and in the dropdown I will choose "Replace" item. I will type "Open Sans" to find this text in our HTML file and replace it with "Roboto Slab," click the replace button and done, you see we have made 26 changes with one click. Let's check this directly in the code, for example here you can see Roboto Slab, and here also is the new font. Ok, save the HTML file. Now, open the browser and let's check our changes, refresh the page and, you can see the Roboto Slab font is live. I like how it looks in my newsletter, very strong. Let's do an experiment now and revert all our changes. Open the code editor and return the Open Sans font to our newsletter. Save the changes and open the browser to check the result. Refresh the page and yes, Open Sans is back, so you can see the changes are live. I have finished this short tutorial, I hope it was useful, and I'll see you for future tutorials.

CSS Tutorial — How to use Fonts (12/13)

04:41
CSS Tutorial — How to use Fonts (12/13) All you gotta do to change the font of your page is decide what font you wanna use, say Roboto and write font-family: Roboto… Really? No... not really, it’s more complicated than that. Typography is a gigantic topic in web design and of course you have a ton of options in CSS to better your font styles and its readability. Now this isn’t a design course, so I won’t be covering design theory, I’m not gonna tell you what looks good and what doesn’t, but I will show you how to manage your fonts in HTML/CSS. You can use fonts that already exist on your computer and everybody else’s computers like “Times New Roman” or “Arial”, these are generic “WEB SAFE” fonts, but they’re limited and honestly kinda boring. Or you can use what’s called a custom font. There are a ton of custom fonts out there. If you’re a designer you have definitely worked with custom fonts so you know what I’m talking, you’re also not gonna like what I’m about to say. I am not a huge fan using custom fonts for websites Not because they’re not cool or pretty. But for one thing, not all browsers render custom fonts the same way or even correctly, so you potentially run that risk. Also, using custom fonts means anybody going to your site has to wait for the browser to download the custom font first, then render the site. Where as with generic fonts it doesn’t. And that’s costly, it takes time and bandwidth. Lastly, a huge proportion of custom fonts are great for banners and flyers and quotes (SHOW INSTAGRAM QUOTE, SHAKE HEAD), but they are absolutely awful for long body text like articles. Their readability is not always the best. With all that said, a lot of people still use them for many different reasons. Trust me, I understand the importance of uniqueness and personality when it comes to design, in fact ColorCode’s website uses a custom font on the hero page, but it comes at a cost. Custom fonts are like a chocolate milkshake. They’re sooo amazing but you really shouldn’t be doing it, unless you are willing to pay the price… Anyway,...I still want you to know how to change fonts. There are 2 things you need to do. Load or “EMBED” the font into the page (assuming it’s a custom font, for generic fonts you can skip this step), THEN change the font-family property in your CSS. How do you load fonts? Using a LINK tag in your HTML… OR…. an @import or @Font-Face statement in your CSS to point to the location of that font. It could be loaded from anywhere on the internet and I’ll show you an example in a second. Again, if you’re using a default font, you don’t need to load anything, because Arial is already available on everybody’s computer/phone/iPad, etc... So,...we’re gonna get some help from our friends over at google fonts to demo this. So head over to fonts.google.com and I’ll show you how. So here it is, a long list of custom fonts for you, pick one and look at the instructions. So I’m gonna pick Roboto and look, it even generates the code for you to embed and then set the font-family. Notice the embed part can be done in a couple of different ways, also the CSS font-family statement can take multiple values separated by a comma. This means hey, Mr. Browser, if you can’t find the first one for whatever reason, cuz it’s a fancy one, go to the next one, if you can’t find that one either, keep going until you get to one that you CAN render. You always wanna have backups in case your custom font can’t be loaded. So, in the next video I’m gonna update our Profile page to use Google Fonts. It’ll be our last demo in this course and it’ll instantly make our page look much more professional, see you there.

CSS FONT FAMILY

08:50
TAKE THE ENTIRE CLASS https://greatercommons.com/learn/how-to-create-a-website font-family Property a prioritized list of font family names Values family-name generic-name serif sans-serif monspace cursive fantasy Description: The font-family CSS property lets you specify a prioritized list of font family names and/or generic family names for the selected element. Values are separated by a comma to indicate that they are alternatives. The browser will select the first font on the list that is installed on the computer or that can be downloaded. Web authors should always add at least one generic family in a font-family list, since there's no guarantee that a specific font is installed on the computer or can be downloaded. The generic family lets the browser select an acceptable fallback font when needed. It is often convenient to use the shorthand property font to set font-size and other font related properties all at once. How to Insert Stylish Fonts In Blogger

09:56
How to Insert Stylish Fonts In Blogger In this Video I have given a procedure by which everyone can insert stylish fonts in their Blogs created on blogger. Blogger is a blog-publishing service that allows multi-user blogs with time-stamped entries. It was developed by Pyra Labs, which was bought by Google in 2003. Generally, the blogs are hosted by Google at a subdomain of blogspot.com. Blogs can also be hosted in the registered custom domain of the blogger (like www.example.com). A user can have up to 100 blogs per account. Up until May 1, 2010, Blogger allowed users to publish blogs on other hosts, via FTP. All such blogs had (or still have) to be moved to Google's own servers, with domains other than blogspot.com allowed via custom URLs.Unlike WordPress.com, Blogger allows its users to use their own domain free of charge, while WordPress.com charges around $13 to use a custom domain.Blogger cannot be installed on a web server. One has to use DNS facilities to redirect a custom URL to a blogspot domain

How to Add Custom Fonts in WordPress Manually and Using a Plugin

06:58
Are you looking to customize the font on your WordPress site to make its design exactly how you like? Not all themes have a built in method to edit the font of your site and you may be looking to change this. In this video, we will show you how to add custom fonts to your WordPress site. Font Pair website: https://fontpair.co For selecting the fonts to use on your site you can use the Font Pair website for what would work well together and then you can visit the Google Fonts website at: https://fonts.google.com Select the fonts you want to add and there should be a new section at the bottom of the page where you can see the fonts you selected to add to your WordPress site. Expand that area and ensure you are under the Embed section for the correct code that you will need to add to your header. For adding the code you would want to use the plugin Insert Headers and Footers found here: https://wordpress.org/plugins/insert-headers-and-footers/ Under Settings, Insert Headers and Footers you will add the first set of code to add the fonts to your site. With that added and saved you will want to go under Appearance, Customize, Additional CSS and there you would be able to add the second code which lets the font be visible to you and your visitors. A second method would be using the Easy Google Fonts plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/easy-google-fonts/ The plugin will add a new section under Appearance, Typography and there you will be able to select the font to use for each style location. We would still recommend only two fonts to prevent confusing your users. Our third method for this would be the plugin Typekit Fonts for WordPress: https://wordpress.org/plugins/typekit-fonts-for-wordpress/ With that plugin, you would be able to select fonts from the Typekit website, add the ID from the popup, and select where you want the custom font for your WordPress site to appear in your Appearance, Customize, Additional CSS section.
