If you receive an invitation that asks for Cocktail attire, the proper thing to do is simply to adhere to it. But what does it really mean? Most of the time, this dress code is used for wedding invitations so let me go over what you should wear if the dress code is cocktail attire for a wedding. First is you want a dark gray to mid-grey suit. Preferably solid, you can also have a light pattern, a glen check or a shark skin but with solids, you're always right. If you must, Navy works as well. Two, you should have a white dress shirt, maybe off-white, you can also have maybe a white collar shirt with a striped body but it should be somewhat formal. Do not wear brown shirts or purple shirts or turquoise shirts, that just looks awful. Next up comes the neckwear, you should definitely wear a tie. Maybe a bowtie can get away with it but usually for the wedding, stick with the tie because you don't want to take attention away from the bride and groom. Ideally, what you can wear is a colored tie with a small pattern like the one I'm wearing right now in purple with some paisley or you can wear a solid necktie like the one here, you want some texture like a knit tie like this one is good or maybe you can also wear satin if it's an evening event but I would usually stay away from that and go with something a little more textured. Since this is a more festive event, you want to go with a pocket square. If you have a white shirt, a white pocket square works. If you have a different colored shirt, use a different kind of pocket square. For shoes, you should preferably go with black dress shoes, that means leather sole and neatly polished black cap toe Oxford is ideal. If you must, you can also get away with burgundy, try not to go with tan shoes or anything like that. No sneakers, no trainers, black men's dress shoes, please. What's really important is that you wear over the calf socks because you never want to expose your hairy calves to the public so make sure you get over the calf socks that ideally match your trousers and then you'll be just fine. If you want to add a dash of color, you could also use socks that are slightly contrasting, maybe taking up the color of your tie but that's a little more advanced so it's up to you. Make sure you have a good clean hair cut, trimmed at the back. If you have a beard, of course, you want to be well groomed and it's all suppose to look neat. Never wear a tuxedo when the invitation states cocktail attire because that's simply overdressed, it's wrong and it's not an option so if it says "black tie optional", you can wear a tuxedo but when it says "cocktail attire", stick with a suit. As a general rule, you should always keep in mind that more patterns, more colors make things stand out more so ideally, if you're not quite comfortable yet, just start with one accent piece, either you have a bolder color jacket or you have a strong red or yellow tie. Don't try to mix it all together, try to go one accent piece at a time and if you feel more comfortable, maybe you can add two but never overdo it. Chances are, you already have the core pieces like the jacket, suit, and the shirts in your wardrobe but if you want to create a unique look with that boutonniere, pocket square, and tie, check out our selection of Fort Belvedere things, everything you see here, is available in our shop and much more. ======================================= To never miss any of our videos again, sign up here for free: http://gentl.mn/1RKv7bi Want to see more videos? Cocktail party attire began in the 20s as an alternative to black tie formal attire. In today’s age, the dressing culture as a whole is entirely more relaxed, which makes dressing for a cocktail party really hard. // Use my code LIFETAILORED and you'll get a premium suit for $359 USD (link below): https://fave.co/2Na5rwQ // You're probably asking, what is acceptable cocktail attire? For starters: no tuxedo, no jeans, and no leather sneakers. Cocktail attire is essentially wearing a smart suit and tie, but there are exceptions. But what if it's summer, what should you wear as cocktail attire? What is acceptable and what is not? What about Fall? I mean what if my jeans are really nice, can I wear them then? What if I don't own a suit I look good in, do you have any tips for me? Actually, we do, in another of our videos, how to look dope AF in a suit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xHgVnSO50yw

Shadow Stripe Ribbed Socks Light Grey and Light Blue - https://gentl.mn/2QEXgeA What's meant by cocktail attire today then? While it is still a relatively formal and somewhat strict dress code, there is a little bit more room for creativity and expression in today's interpretations of cocktail attire. It can apply to traditional cocktail parties, of course, but also to other events like weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, and so on. If you will be attending a wedding or another event of similar pedigree, you will want to stick to the more traditional interpretation of cocktail attire. What exactly should a man wear to an event that has a dress code of cocktail attire? So, let us break down that traditional, conservative interpretation of the dress code first and discuss some of the variations along the way. The most traditional option for a cocktail attire suit, which is to say, of course, that being jacket, trousers, and optional waistcoat are all cut from matching fabric, is in a medium gray color, as I am wearing here today. Of course, going for something even darker such as charcoal, gray, or navy blue is also perfectly acceptable. Conversely, a black suit would be much too somber for cocktail attire and should be avoided. No matter what color of suit you choose, solid colors are safest. You can go with a faint pattern such as a light windowpane or maybe a Glenn check but keep in mind that that pattern should be conservative and not overly loud. To provide contrast with a more medium to dark suit then, your shirt should typically be lighter in color. White is standard, of course, but you can also go for off-white or pastel colors like pink, yellow, or blue. A Winchester shirt which is to say a shirt with a white collar and sometimes white cuffs, paired with a colored and occasionally patterned body, can also be an acceptable choice for cocktail attire so long as the color that is incorporated in the body of the shirt is similarly light and subtle. Dark shirts or shirts in jewel tones, take, for example, burgundies, eggplants, and so on, are too modern and too Avante-Garde for traditional cocktail attire. Regarding ties, solid ties are a safe and acceptable choice, of course, but traditional patterns like small dots or micropatterns, as I am wearing here today, are also a smart choice. When it comes to shoes, black oxfords are your best bet. They should ideally be plain toed but a conservative cap toe can work equally well. Black derby shoes, if well shined, in a similarly conservative style are also acceptable. If you have a pair of oxfords in a deep brown or oxblood and they've been polished to a mirror shine, you can feel free to wear those as well. To be most conservative, your socks should ideally match the color of your suit's trousers. You can match them to another element in your outfit, say, for example, your tie if it is conservatively styled but this is a slightly bolder option. It goes without saying, however, stay away from anything in bright colors or crazy patterns as that is simply too informal for cocktail attire. As with the somewhat closely related black tie optional dress code, the area where a man has the greatest amount of latitude in traditional cocktail attire is with his accessories. Cufflinks can be silver, gold of any shade, or any other type of solid metal and can incorporate stones or engraving. Tie bars, collar clips, and rings can also be incorporated into your ensemble so long as they are conservatively styled too. Pocket squares should ideally echo the shirt. That is to say, white pocket squares for white shirts and squares incorporating an element of color if you are wearing a colored shirt. Finally regarding boutonnieres, something light to medium in color and overall understated is a smart choice. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Want to stay updated? Everyone needs a good lesson on easy cocktail garnishes. There are great arguments for a cocktail garnish: aroma & sexiness. A cocktail with a nice garnish can be more alluring. And, the key to a great cocktail experience is the aroma. Home Bartender Starter Kit: http://bit.ly/2DTOJcN Learn more at http://learn.awesomedrinks.com The most common citrus garnish is the classic citrus twist. While it may take some practice to get looking fantastic, this is still fits into the easy cocktail garnishes mantra. The best citrus twists come off fresh citrus fruit. Older fruit with a drier peel becomes difficult to work with and loses a lot of the appeal that makes twists fun. Playing with citrus zest can be a rewarding experience. Especially when you get to flame them and make fire! A citrus zest is most often a slice of citrus off your fruit, cut with a sharp knife (leaving little pith on the skin/zest) or a potato peeler. A fruit flag is a garnish which wraps a cocktail cherry in a slide of citrus, usually an orange slice. Using a garnish pick, stick the sharp end through the left side of an orange slice, then add a Luxardo Maraschino Cherry on the stick. Lastly, poke your sharp pick end through the right side of the orange slice. Spring and summer time are your chances to excel at herbal garnishes! Garnishing with herbs is simple easy. For a refreshing mojito or tiki drink you'll find a sprig of mint makes a perfect garnish. The salt rim technique is well established in the margarita market. No doubt you've ordered a margarita at a bar, pub or restaurant and encountered a salt rim. Many establishments will use a margarita salt, which is often a blend of salts and spices. A margarita salt is typically larger / course salt that really pops off the rim and looks impressive. By far the easiest garnish is the whole garnish, those that you just spear and top. An olive in a martini on a bamboo garnish pick is a great example. Or, onions in a gibson martini which gives the drinker both a savory onion aroma alongside a treat when the drink is finished. ------ Support CMC: http://patreon.com/cmc Checkout our recipe E-Books: http://homecocktailmenu.com ABOUT Common Man Cocktails (CMC) Common Man Cocktails, inspired by Derrick Schommer's intimidation when opening a cocktail book, is designed to show viewers how to create some of the most common cocktails to advanced crazy cocktails and to look back at the classics of yesterday. Aaron Marino of alpha m. has teamed up with a pro who works at a bartending school. Alpha now discusses how to drink like a gentleman. Here's how to look like a gentleman and not like one of those schlubs who is just trying to get loaded. 1. Order a drink that is masculine: Martini, Manhattan, Old Fashioned 2. Specify the type of alcohol 3. Specify 'neat' or 'up' - ice or no ice 4. Know the establishment and their specialty drink(s), then order accordingly 5. Don't ever order a daiquiri 6. Tip well - $5 minimum on the first drink to set the stage for the rest of the evening. You can go a little lower thereafter 7. Don't yell for the bartender 8. Always have cash or card in hand to be ready to pay 9. Use 'please', 'excuse me', and 'thank you' 10. Never hit on the hot bartender 11. Pace yourself and don't slam shots to get wasted - never get sloppy drunk! 12. It's okay to respectfully decline a shot - don't get peer pressured 13. A gentleman never drinks and drives! Make a plan BEFORE going out

The video provides tips on how to create the ultimate cocktail party look starting with the basics, such as choosing what colours, prints and shapes suit you and how best to accessorise. If dresses aren’t usually part of your evening rotation, try switching this classic cocktail option for a tailored suit or a chic tuxedo. When teamed with a pair of statement heels, the look can be just as feminine as a dress and will put a fresh spin on event styling. When it comes to accessories, a high-impact box clutch and a large metal cuff are especially modern, and a sleek leather pouch will add a clean-cut edge. Remember to consider your outerwear when planning your outfit in order to remain looking polished before and after the event. An elegant evening coat is a timeless investment and chosen well, will work with almost any ensemble. Depending on the season, a lighter cover-up may be more appropriate, so be sure to choose a jacket that complements the rest of your outfit. Statement shoes are a classic choice and can enliven a simple black dress or tailored two-piece suit. Alternatively, strappy black sandals are a flawless option. Place attention on the detail of your look, as it’s the final touches that will complete a polished aesthetic. Take time over your hair and make-up and opt for a combination that works with the outfit in question. Confidence is key and it’s the finer details that will make you feel that little bit extra special.

Cocktails hold a special place in movies, television, and my heart. Whether it's Bogie drinking away his problems in a nazi-occupied lounge or The Dude sucking caucasian out of his mustache, the cocktail represents an important milestone in the lexicon of human achievement: making booze taste better so we can get smashed faster. Please drink responsibly guys, seriously. Don't let me catch you driving or some stupid bullshit after you've had one too many vespers, because your simple ass thinks that you're James Bond. A few months back, we brought you the premier of the Seiko USA "Cocktail" inspired pieces that took thier design cues from the ever popular SARB065. But there is more to Presage than the "Cocktail" watches. Presage is a higher echelon of watches within the Seiko lineup that deserve your attention. Every Presage watch has three characteristics: 1) Spron material for the mainspring and hairspring 2) Seiko's Magic Lever for efficient winding 3) Diashock protection for the balance wheel. We will show you 4 beautiful Presage Automatic Dress Watches, and at the end we will dress up a Seiko USA Presage with a gorgeous strap to show you a completely different look.
