100 Years of Bras | Glamour

02:31
The bra has come a long way since its inception. Check out how this sexy staple has changed over the years—and choose which style you like best! Bras are such an integral part of our everyday lives, but have you ever wondered about the origins of the almighty brassiere? Check out our brand-new video that charts the history of the bra from the first bra in Roman times (a tightly wrapped cloth, created to make breasts appear smaller because the Romans didn't particularly enjoy them—rude, huh?), to the lacy little underthings we wear today. While it seems crazy to us now to hide our natural feminine shape, feelings towards breasts and therefore bras varied from era to era. Take a look at how bras have transitioned throughout history—and hey, you might even find yourself wanting to bring some of them back! Making A (Modern!) Edwardian Walking Skirt || Historical Style

12:52
The next addition to my growing neo-historical wardrobe is this: an adaptation of the Edwardian walking skirt! (By the way--yes, the pins did come out of the hem after I had pressed it all into place. 0/10, would not recommend wearing your clothes with pins still in.) Shoes worn in the final shots are the ‘Gibson’ style from American Duchess. MATERIAL SOURCES: -Pattern: Truly Victorian ‘1898 Walking Skirt’ no. Books for Learning About Vintage Style & Clothing

02:21
There are a lot of amazing books out in the world, from actual historic costume textbooks to big coffee table photo books on old Hollywood costuming. I'd love to have an even larger library of them all someday, but for now here are some of my favorite books for learning about vintage style and clothing. Books Mentioned: 1- The collection of the Kyoto Costume Institute : Fashion - a history from the 18th to the 20th Century (French) by Akiko (Chief Editor) Fukai (Author) (This huge book includes both historic and vintage fashion, perfect for anyone interested in both. This is the edition I have but there are several others I assume are just as great. Mostly full of just gorgeous photos, this book gives a great visual overview of fashion through the ages and I have always found it endlessly inspiring) 2- Twentieth Century Fashion in Detail (V & A Fashion in Details) by Valerie Mendes (Author), Claire Wilcox (Fashion in Detail are a series of books by the V&A Museum and are great for historic costumers as well as vintage fashion devotes. This book covers some of the great details and couture finishes common in clothing before the fast fashion craziness we live amongst now) 3- Vintage Fashion Complete Hardcover by Nicky Albrechtsen (Another huge book that would be a great first resource for anyone just getting into vintage style or buying and selling vintage. Has overviews of each decade, each kind of accessory, and important style movements or influences. I just bought this book a few months ago and I really enjoyed it!) 4 & 5- 1930s Fashion: The Definitive Sourcebook & 1940's Fashion: The Definitive Sourcebook by Emmanuelle Dirix (Author), Charlotte Fiell (Author) (These are great books full of photographs and fashion plates for each era. Really good for when you narrow down your interest to a specific era, or if you want to absorb the visuals and styles of each decade in a very thorough way.) 6- The Way We Wore: Styles of the 1930s and '40s and Our World Since Then by Marsha Hunt (I loooove this book. A Hollywood actress in the 1930's and 40's, Marsha Hunt really wore the clothes we still so admire today. In this book she includes hundreds of photos, film stills, and anecdotes about 30s and 40s fashions. She seems like such an inspiring lady too! This book can be harder to find, I got my copy used on Amazon and it seems to be a de-accessioned library book. Try and snap this one up if you see it, it's a true treasure!) Thanks for watching! Basic Neutral Wardrobe - Why I Stick To A Minimal Clothing Style & Closet

09:09
Subscribe for more videos like this! http://bit.ly/DearlyBethanySubscribe My Very Neutral Pinterest Page https://www.pinterest.com/dearlybethany Basic Neutral Wardrobe - Why I Stick To A Minimal Style A lot of people have noticed I almost always wear neutral colors. // Why I love neutrals // 1. Timeless 2. They look higher end 3. Preference. I just gravitate to them in everything: wardrobe, home decor and makeup. // Why you should have a color scheme // You don’t have to stick with neutrals to have a color scheme yourself. 1. Getting dressed is so much easier, especially if you’re short on space. 2. Having a color scheme makes buying clothes easier to decide and justify. 3. It means you’ve curated your wardrobe. You were intentional! You knew what you were doing when you bought that piece. // How to pick a color scheme // 1. Evaluate your closet for colors you wear the most. 2. Look through photos of you wearing different colors, and be honest about how you feel in it. 3. Pin outfits you really like. See what colors repeat in your Pinterest board. Delete pins outside of the color scheme. 4. Narrow down your closet. 5. Use a color wheel to understand what colors go together, or use a color palette generator online. 6. Once you build your closet in that direction, you’ll feel more enabled to experiment adding a new color to your curated closet. 7. Throw out the rule book and choose whatever color scheme makes you confident and happy. :) // My colors // White, ivory/cream, brown, rust, gray (any shade), black. Also denim, metallics, and prints of those colors. // What I’m wearing // Svilu Jumpsuit XS http://bit.ly/2OUFnU8 Pamela Card Magi Necklace 20 in http://bit.ly/Pamela-Card-Magi Pamela Card Nicaea Necklace 18 in https://rstyle.me/n/c6d5r3ccmfp Pamela Card Aphrodite Necklace 22 in https://rstyle.me/n/c6d5q9ccmfp Watch by Cate & Nelson http://bit.ly/cate-nelson-watch Nisolo Rings: http://bit.ly/NisoloJewelry When you shop some of these items, you are supporting this channel by using the affiliate links. // Socials // INSTAGRAM: http://instagram.com/dearlybethany PINTEREST: https://www.pinterest.com/dearlybethany LIKEtoKNOW.it: https://www.liketoknow.it/dearlybethany TWITTER: https://twitter.com/dearlybethany GOODREADS: https://www.goodreads.com/dearlybethany *Images used are from my Pinterest boards
