Some of the most well-known logos in the world were purposefully designed to indicate something much more than simple beauty. In fact, it seems that in some cases, every line, curve, and color has meaning behind it. Adidas, Apple, BMW, Coca-Cola, Toyota… We see these famous brands everywhere but never consider what their logos exactly mean. Curious to know the secret? Adidas 0:52 The current logo is three stripes at an angle which together form a triangle. This symbolizes a mountain, which in turn represents the challenges that all sportsmen have to overcome day after day. Apple 1:21 Rob Janoff, the designer who came up with the world-famous Apple company logo, explained his idea in one of his interviews. He bought a bag of apples, placed them in a bowl, and spent time drawing them for a week, trying to break the image down into something simple. Vaio 1:58 The first two letters of the Vaio logo symbolize an analogue wave. The last two are similar to the numbers 1 and 0 — that is, symbols of a digital signal. Amazon 2:14 The orange arrow is similar to a smile because the company wants its customers to be satisfied. The arrow is also stretched between the letters ’A’ and ’Z’, in a hint that the company sells absolutely every product you can imagine. Baskin Robbins 2:40 The pink-colored parts of the "BR" section make up the number 31, which is how many ice cream flavors Baskin Robbins used to famously sell. Toyota 2:56 The logo represents a stylized image of a needle eye with a thread passing through it. This is a hint at the company’s past – they used to produce weaving machines. Continental 3:28 Continental, a famous car tire producer, has a logo in which the first two letters depict a car wheel. Formula 1 3:41 If you look carefully at the white space between the letter ’F’ and the red stripes, you can see the number 1. Pinterest 3:59 On Pinterest, people collect images they like from across the Internet and ’pin’ them to their online boards. That’s why the image of a pin is hidden in the letter P. Beats 4:17 Beats, an audio equipment producer based in the USA, uses a logo in which the letter ’B’ looks like headphones on a person’s head. Toblerone 4:32 The famous chocolate company based in Bern, Switzerland, has a silhouette of a bear in its logo. That's because Bern is sometimes called a city of bears. BMW 4:55 The logo is simply a part of the Bavarian flag, the area of Germany where the company originated. LG 5:18 The logo is a stylized image of a person’s face. According to the company, this represents its aspiration to have human relations with their customers. Evernote 5:34 The corner of the elephant’s ear is folded over in a similar way how people fold the corner of a page to make notes. Coca-Cola 5:57 In the space between the letters ’O’ and ’L’, you can see the Danish flag. It’s purely a coincidence. We are constantly bombarded with so many icons and logos that we rarely stop to look further into them, but there are some very interesting and bizarre secrets hiding within these 10 famous logos! 1. Hyundai Bet you think the H logo is just the first letter of the South Korean car manufacturer Hyundai? Of course you do! But it actually represents two figures: the happy client shaking hands with the Hyundai salesman, cleverly projecting the subliminal message of a successful car purchase. 2. Apple It was Rob Janoff who was tasked with creating the apple logo back in 1977. Janoff bought a bag of apples and spent the week sketching them, trying to represent the perfect angle where the fruit couldn´t be mistaken for a cherry. This was when he added a bite mark and stumbled across the similarity between Bite and Byte. This was definitely a selling point for Steve Jobs. 3. Vaio The first two letters in the computer company's name symbolize a digital waveform and the io is designed to look like a 1 and a 0, representing binary and the mix of analog and digital. Also the melody that sounds on startup actually derives from the dialtone sounds on a telephone keypad on typing V-A-I-O 4. Amazon Always aiming to please, Amazon designed their logo to represent a smile, projecting a sense of satifaction in their brand. Not only that, but the arrow also starts at ´a´ and finishes at 'z' implying that the company stocks every product you could possibly desire. 5. Toyota T-o-y-o-t-a. All the letters of the companies name can be found within the logo. But what does it represent? You're thinking A big strong buffalo's head or a cowboy with a hat, right? Wrong! It actually represents a needle and thread! This Japanese car manufacturer actually began making weaving machines and keeps its logo to this day! 6. Continental Sometimes overlooked, the continental logo is simple and clever. The first two letters are designed to symbolize a car wheel. 7. Toblerone This awkward-to-eat chocolate treat doesn't just have a simple mountain in its logo. Toblerone is made in Bern, Switzerland, so it´s no surprise to see one of the Swiss alps in its logo. But it also hides a secret bear hidden in the mountain, as Bern is known as the city of bears and the bear symbol is heavily decorated throughout the city. 8. BMW The German motor company started out making airplanes in 1916 and many think that the checker pattern in its logo represents the spinning propellers of an airplane. But it is actually just the design of the Bavarian flag, the part of Germany where the company originated. 9. Domino's Pizza In 1960 College dropout Tom Monaghan borrowed $900 to by a tiny pizza placed called Dominic's. 5 years later he bought 2 more locations. The former owner refused Tom the permission to use his name in the franchise so Tom turned it into Domino's. The dice in the logo represent the first restaurant that he bought, followed by the next two, and he had planned on adding numbers on every new opening. That was before he realized how big the franchise would become. 10. Unilever Who is Unilever, right? It's actually a huge corporation which owns over 400 famous brands. You've only got to look on the back of any of these popular products to find their logo hiding there. (Axe, Lipton, Ben and Jerry's, Dove, Heartbrand, Hellman's) But that's not all, the actual unilever logo is made up of 25 smaller logos, each with a rich meaning. Then Stephen and Carter bounced her and the huge water balloon on the trampoline. Then Carter popped the giant water balloon while Liz was flying through the air on the trampoline. Then Stephen, Carter, and Liz ran down to the pond and climbed on the floating water trampoline. All at once they jumped off and did a backflip into the water. Have you ever thought about what inspired designers to create famous logos and what the story behind them is? Perhaps they were an accidental creation? In 90% of cases, we’ve no idea what meaning is hidden in those seemingly abstract lines. Did you know, for example, that the world-famous symbol represents the wings of the Greek goddess Nike? By the way, a student named Carolyn Davidson was paid a mere $35 for designing this logo in 1975. So, today, we will explain and even show you what the most interesting logos actually mean! (9 Apr 2018) CATT SADLER: "I LIKE THE ROAD I'M ON RIGHT NOW' Catt Sadler may have walked out on her job late last year after discovering she was paid far less than a colleague but the former E! News host says she's found a better one _ advocate. The former journalist is speaking out about the way women are shortchanged when it comes to salaries and pointing to online tools they can arm themselves with during future negotiations. "My story is not singular. There are dozens, countless hundreds, thousands of women experiencing the same thing that I did," Sadler said. "And so I've heard from them and they're saying, 'Please fight this fight.' They're saying, 'Please be our voice when we don't have one.'" Sadler, a longtime co-host of "Daily Pop" on the E! Entertainment network, left the network after learning that on-air partner Jason Kennedy made nearly twice as much money as she did. She soon found herself a symbol of the wage gap, championed on the red carpet by celebrities that she used to interview, like Eva Longoria, Debra Messing, Natalie Portman and Laura Dern. "They were saying my name but almost just as a symbol for all of the wrongs and trying to shine a light on that," Sadler said. "It just reaffirms that there are enough women that have had it. Time is up. The silence? No more." Sadler has teamed up with Luna Bar, which is offering free online resources to combat pay inequality. The nutritional bar brand is also donating a portion of its profits to the American Association of University Women to fund salary negotiation resources. Sadler said that until laws change or courts get involved, the responsibility of landing appropriate compensation falls on the individual. But she noted that only 30 percent of women actually negotiate their salaries at all. "That's way too low. So we've got to get in the game, ladies," she said. "We have to arm ourselves with not only the courage to stand up for ourselves and make some noise and knock on the door and say, 'This is my worth and this is what I want.' But we have to be able to back it up with substantial tangible information that makes our argument a strong one." Some of the tips for job hunters include deflecting questions about salary until after getting a job offer, as well as querying future employers if male colleagues will be earning more for the same work. "We have to ask the hard questions," Sadler said. White women in America make about 80 cents for every white male's dollar, while Latina women make 54 cents, and black women make 63 cents, according to the American Association of University Women. The wage gap even exists in Hollywood, with female stars in films such as "All The Money In The World" and TV series like Netflix's "The Crown" being paid far less than their male counterparts, even if they have more prominent roles. As for her own abrupt exit from E!, Sadler isn't looking back, saying "I believe I'm on the path I'm intended to be on." But she regrets not pushing for a higher wage package earlier. "I think I tried to play catch up a little too late. I think that's where I was hurt because I was in the dark for so long," she said. E! said in a statement that it compensates employees fairly and appropriately based on their roles, regardless of gender. Frances Berwick, president of NBCUniversal Lifestyle Entertainment, said Kennedy has more extensive duties than Sadler, including work on the network's profitable red carpet franchise. "Catt Sadler and Jason Kennedy had different roles and therefore different salaries," he said. Luxury lounge: the interior Freedom is the defining design feature with a new luxury slant. This explains the A8’s resemblance to a lavish, spacious lounge. Compared to the predecessor model, it has grown substantially in length in both body versions. The range of equipment and materials is extensive, with every detail radiating superlative bespoke quality – from the perforation in the seat upholstery to the electrically opened and closed shutters on the air vents. The classiest seat in the new Audi flagship model is in the rear right – the optional relaxation seat in the A8 L that comes with four different adjustment options and a footrest. In this seat, the passenger can warm and massage the soles of their feet on a unit with multiple settings incorporated into the back of the front-passenger seat. The new comfort head restraints complete the experience. The rear passengers can also control an array of functions such as ambient lighting, the new HD Matrix reading lights and seat massage, plus make private phone calls, via a separate operating unit. The rear seat remote, with its OLED display as large as a smartphone, is a removable unit housed in the center armrest. Fingertip response: the controls The luxury sedan’s interior deliberately adopts a reductive design; the interior architecture is clear and with a strictly horizontal orientation. Audi carries its high quality standards into the digital age with a radically new operating concept. It does away with the familiar rotary pushbutton and touchpad of the predecessor model. The instrument panel is kept largely clear of buttons and switches. At its center is a 10.1-inch touchscreen display which, when off, blends almost invisibly into the high-gloss black surround thanks to its black-panel look. The user interface appears as soon as the car is opened. The driver controls the Infotainment system with fingertip control on the large display. They can use a second touchscreen display on the center tunnel console to access the air conditioning and comfort functions as well as make text inputs. When the driver activates a function in the upper or lower display, they hear and feel a click by way of confirmation. The glass-look operating buttons respond in the same way. The combination of acoustic and tactile feedback along with the use of common touch gestures such as swiping make the new MMI touch response especially safe, intuitive and quick to use. The A8 can also engage in intelligent conversation. The driver can activate an array of functions in the automobile using a new, natural form of voice control. Information on destinations and media is either available on board or is delivered from the cloud at LTE speed. The extensive Audi connect range also includes traffic sign recognition and hazard information – innovative car-to-X services that draw on the swarm intelligence of the Audi fleet. The extensively optimized navigation is another new feature: It is self-learning, based on the route just driven. This provides the driver with intelligent search suggestions. Like the 4.0 TFSI, the twelve-cylinder engine features COD (cylinder on demand) technology. At low loads and engine speeds, it shuts down the left-hand cylinder bank to trim fuel consumption. The new Audi A8 and A8 L are being built at the Neckarsulm site and will appear on the German market in late fall 2017. The starting price for the A8 is EUR 90,600, with the A8 L starting at EUR 94,100. To this end, the model portfolio is being streamlined and the number of variants reduced. At the same time, the company plans to increase the productivity of its plants. The platform orientation of vehicles will be expanded. Optimizing material costs is to contribute significantly to achieving the target return – without detracting from product substance. Administration processes will become even leaner. “We must force the pace of our transformation and become more efficient and agile,” Ralf Brandstätter, who directs the brand’s day-to-day business, said at a news conference in Wolfsburg. “We cannot let up in our efforts and must realize further substantial improvements. What we have achieved so far is still not enough.” €9 billion for e-mobility In total, the Volkswagen brand will invest more than €11 billion in e-mobility, digitalization, autonomous driving and mobility services from 2019 to 2023. More than €9 billion of this money will flow into the company’s electric offensive. The brand currently has two fully-electric cars in its program. This number will increase to around 20 by 2025, with planned production set at over 1 million units. Work on converting the Zwickau plant to be run exclusively as an electric mobility site is already under way. The plants in Emden and Hanover will also switch to the production of electric vehicles starting in 2022. Collectively, these three sites will become Europe’s largest e-production network. Two electric vehicle plants are also currently taking shape in Anting and Foshan in China, with production scheduled to commence in 2020. For North America, the brand plans to make a decision on a production location for electric vehicles soon. “New Volkswagen” takes shape With the fully-electric ID. made in Zwickau, where the order process will feature pre-booking for the first time, Volkswagen will put a new generation of vehicles on the road that will also set standards in digitalization and connectivity. “With the ID., the dawning of the e-mobility era and connectivity for our brand becomes tangible for our customers, too,” Board Member for Sales Jürgen Stackmann said. “It will be the first fully-connected, fully-electric car and will be a symbol of the ‘New Volkswagen’.” Volkswagen will also invest strongly in digitalization. Cost-cutting to be intensified In order to finance the enormous future investments, the Volkswagen brand will have to realize even higher cost savings than previously planned. “We have therefore defined a bundle of measures to improve profitability that will safeguard the full implementation of the pact for the future while also supplementing the topics of the pact and setting the right course for 2025,” CFO Dr. Arno Antlitz explained. The pact for the future will realize cost savings amounting to more than €2.2 billion by the end of 2018. That means the lion’s share of the planned total savings of €3 billion by 2020 will already have been achieved. Further massive savings are expected from measures such as the strong expansion of the platform model. Currently, approximately 60 percent of the conventional models are based on the Modular Transverse Toolkit (MQB), and this is set to increase to around 80 percent by 2020. 30 percent more plant productivity Another lever is plant productivity, where an average increase of 30 percent is planned for the period to 2025. At the same time, the complexity of the model portfolio will be massively reduced. In Europe, the brand will discontinue 25 percent of the engine-transmission variants with low customer demand in the coming model year. This will have a positive effect on the complexity of production and supply chains. These and further measures such as optimizing material costs should help boost the operating return on sales more swiftly than originally planned. “We are confident that we will be able to reach our target of an operating return of at least 6 percent in 2022, three years earlier than originally planned,” Antlitz said.
