This is a very complicated world. It’s a very noisy world. And we’re not going to get a chance to get people to remember much about us. No company is! And so, we have to be really clear on what we want them to know about us. Now Apple, fortunately, is one of half-a-dozen best brands in the whole world. Right up there with Nike, Disney, Coke, Sony — it is one of the greats of the greats. Not just in this country, but all around the globe. But even a great brand needs investment and caring if it’s going to retain its relevance and vitality. And the Apple brand has clearly suffered from neglect in this area in the last few years. And we need to bring it back! The way to do that is NOT to talk about speeds and fees. It’s NOT to talk about bits and mega-hertz. It’s NOT to talk about why we are better than Windows. The dairy industry tried for 20 years to convince you that milk was good for you. It’s a lie, but they tried anyway. And the sales were falling. And then they tried “Got milk” and the sales went up. “Got milk” wasn’t even talking about the product. In fact, it focuses on the absence of the product. But the best example of all, and one of the greatest jobs of marketing that the universe has ever seen, is Nike. Remember, Nike sells a commodity. They sell shoes!!! And yet, when you think of Nike you feel something different than a shoe company. In their ads, as you know, they don’t ever talk about the product. They don’t ever tell you about their air soles and why they are better than Reebok’s air soles. What does Nike do in their advertising? They honor great athletes. And they honor great athletics. That’s who they are, that’s what they are about! Apple spends a fortune on advertising — you’d never know it….you’d never know it! So…when I got here, Apple just fired their agency and there was a competition with 23 agencies that…you know…four years from now we would pick one. And we blew that up and we hired Chiat\Day, the ad agency that I was fortunate enough to work with years ago and created some award winning work including the commercial voted the best ad ever made, 1984 (by Advertising Professionals). And…we started working about eight weeks ago, and the question we asked was, “Our customers want to know who is Apple and what is it that we stand for…where do we fit in this world?” And what we’re about isn’t making boxes for people to get their jobs done — although we do that well. We do that better than almost anybody, in some cases. But Apple is about something more than that! Apple at the core…its core value — is that, we believe that people with passion can change the world for the better. That’s what we believe! And we have had the opportunity to work with people like that. We’ve had the opportunity to work with people like you; with software developers, with customers, who have done it. In some big, and some small ways. And we believe that, in this world, people can change it for the better. And that those people who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world are the ones that actually do! And so, what we’re going to do in our first brand marketing campaign in several years, is to get back to that core value! A lot of things have changed. The market is in a total different place than where it was a decade ago. And Apple is totally different — and Apple’s place in it is totally different. And believe me, the products, and the distribution strategy, and the manufacturing are totally different…and we understand that. But values and core values — those things shouldn’t change. The things that Apple believed in at its core, are the same things Apple really stands for today. Q: When it comes to the mechanics of making sales online, do you need a call to action? Do you trust that with enough good will and trust people will find your website/email when it's time to buy? My Best Marketing Strategies for [2018] | Creative Growth Plans for Business

04:53
Want to know my marketing strategy for 2018? ►►Subscribe here to learn more of my secret SEO tips: https://goo.gl/ScRTwc Find me on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/neilkpatel/ Read more on my blog: https://neilpatel.com/blog 2018 is going to be an exciting year. The analysis on how much money we're spending to generate the traffic and here's what's crazy, most people don't realize this, we generate, let's say a million visitors a month on Neil Patel. Do you know what the cost to get there is with video, production, podcasting, blogging, promotion, ads, link building? $110,000 a month. That's what it averaged out to for 2017. Here are my marketing strategies for 2018. I just bought a blog in the marketing space for a half a million bucks. They get a million visitors a month, and it's cheaper to spend money acquiring people who already have the traffic. So in 2017, I bought Uber Suggest, I think it was around 140 grand. They had very little traffic. I 381 redirected the site, traffic increased and guess what happened? Nothing. I hoped that my traffic would go through the roof, but nothing happened. Uber Suggest was a good acquisition and what I ended up learning from that is, who cares about links? Don't buy anything for the links. Buy it purely based off of traffic and just pay a simple metric. If Uber Suggest has roughly 200,000 visitors per month, I paid a hundred and something; I would have paid 200 grand, the money didn't matter. For a blog that I just spent half a million on, their traffic ranges. On a horrible month, they'll get around 800,000 uniques. In a perfect month, they'll get around, like, 1.2, 1.3 million uniques, and all I'm doing right now is buying as many blogs as possible. My marketing strategy for 2018 is to buy blogs based on of traffic. I look at the top posts that they have and how qualified their visitors are and determine if I can successfully monetize their content. I don't even care if they have revenue. If they don't have revenue, even better. The problem with Search Engine Journal is that they have conferences, they have advertising, and they have contracts for all of it. I don't care for any of that. I just want the traffic. So when you buy all these people for traffic and then you put it into your monetization flow, you can quickly figure out, what is this worth? If I can't make my money back in less than 12 months, I will not buy it. The other marketing strategy that I use when I'm buying these sites is to look for blogs that aren't monetized well. The blog that I ended up buying for half a million bucks, they're not even making three grand a month. If you're not even making three grand a month, that's a good deal, right? They're like; you're going to give me half a million dollars for this? No problem. Another creative marketing strategy I'm doing right now, is trying to buy a really popular marketing tool. I don't want to pay them all the money they're asking for because they want well into the millions, and it isn't worth it. But, I'm trying to work out a deal where I give them X amount of money up front, let's say a million dollars, and then give them a hundred thousand a month over X amount of months or a hundred thousand a year over X amount of years. When I see inefficiencies in sites, I figure I can purchase them and double the revenue because they aren't optimized for traffic or conversions. So buy it for what it's worth, optimize it, and then use the profits to pay them out continually. That way you're not using all of your money and the business is paying, you may have spent a bit more money, but personally, you don't have to spend as much money, and that's my marketing strategy for 2018. My goal is to spend at least $5 million acquiring businesses purely based on their traffic. If you need help or have questions about online or digital marketing or of you're a small business looking for help, leave a comment or question below and I'll personally answer and help you in any way I can!

The Difference Between Marketing vs Branding Strategy

06:59
Click here to subscribe: https://bit.ly/2HxjQRa That old marketing vs branding debate is a tricky one, but on today's episode we're going to tackle it head on, talking about brand awareness marketing versus direct response marketing and which one is best for your business. You see, when it comes to marketing your business, there's no shortage of strategy, tactics or tools available to use. You can use social media, you can use email marketing, there's content marketing, there's video marketing, you can blog, do SEO, you can do direct mail, pay-per-click, maybe start a YouTube channel, maybe run some Facebook ads... You ever consider putting up a banner or doing some skywriting? Don't do that ;) Regardless of which tactic you decide to use, they tend to fall into one of two camps: One of which is brand awareness marketing, and the other one is direct response marketing. Now, when I first got involved in the marketing game, I fell firmly into the brand awareness marketing which is all about creating value, creating content, getting out there and staying top of mind among your target market. However, it didn't take long before the siren song of the direct response marketer started calling me in, and I was all but enthralled with creating those direct response ads that were designed to get action and get action quickly. So where did I end up? I love Nike. I love Nike advertising, Nike ads, Nike commercials, Nike marketing strategy, Nike branding, and Nike brand strategy. I love all of it, and I love it a lot. What's more, I'm not alone. Nike ads have built the Nike brand into a juggernaut that appeals to almost every single man, woman, and child on this planet. Nike Advertising Power Why does Nike branding work so well? Nike advertising is full of excitement and everything that makes a good sporting-goods ad, but Nike ads are nearly unique in how good they are. So what is the deal with Nike marketing strategy that makes them so great? It's the message that is contained in Nike commercials and every piece of Nike branding that goes out. Nike advertising revolves around a single, universal emotion that is felt the same by nearly everyone on the planet. The idea of struggle and determination is what gives Nike commercials their fire. And every piece of Nike branding revolves around this thing How Nike Ads Capitalize on Archetypes If it told you that Nike marketing strategy is thousands of years old, you probably wouldn't believe me. However, Nike branding, like their name (originating from the Greek Goddess of Victory Nike) is as old as the Greek Civilization. Great works like the Iliad and the Odyssey revolve around the archetype of the hero. The hero is someone who faces a great foe, one who is seemingly insurmountable, and through dedication and perseverance, prevails. Nike brand strategy truly does hail from the time of the ancient Greeks, and there's a reason it still works. This is because the feelings that Nike commercials evoke are feelings that all humans have. The heroes in Nike advertising are universal heroes, regardless of age, race, gender, or anything else. The Real Message of Nike Commercials Nike commercials show all sorts of ripped, young men and women pushing themselves to the limits against a foe, but what are Nike ads really portraying? They're portraying you and me. Nike brand strategy knows that everyone sees the hero in themselves. Nike branding understands that even though we aren't slaying dragons or rescuing princesses, just getting out of bed in the morning to go to the gym, to work, to school, or anything else, is as trial in and of itself, and Nike commercials are all over that. How Nike Brand Strategy Comes Out in Nike Commercials Nike branding relies on a five-step formula to really drive the Nike marketing strategy home in Nike commercials. Nike ads, with very few exceptions, follow this five step formula in one way or another. The five step formula in Nike advertising is how they show the various stages that the hero must go through in order to fulfil his quest. Nike branding simply channels the story of the hero, one that has been told for millennia, into Nike ads and watches the brand explode. The 5-Steps Nike Branding Uses in Nike Ads Nearly every piece of Nike advertising follows the 5-step formula of Nike branding. First, Nike ads show first to the challenge, in the zone, doubt and suffering, rededication, and finally, victory. Nike branding uses these five steps to universally appeal to men, women, and children all over the world, and to great effect. What Each Step in Nike Marketing Strategy Means Key to Nike ads are the five steps. Nike commercials tend to begin with someone being the first to the challenge, first to the plate, the first up. This is how Nike brand strategy demonstrates first to the challenge. Nike branding then shows the person in the zone, working hard at whatever it is they're doing, and then comes the doubt and suffering. It's at this point in Nike ads that we are unsure if the main character is going to make it through, but then Nike marketing strategy kicks back in with rededication. The character rededicates herself to the goal, and attains victory. So to recap: -Nike advertising is a powerhouse because it taps the deepest emotions we feel as a species -One of these emotions is that of the hero, an archetype that human beings all over the world can all feel -Nike commercials do this by using a 5-step formula that shows the hero overcoming great struggles. http://602communications.com/

Marketing Strategy Case Studies: The Starbucks Experience

02:56
http://www.tvchoice.uk.com - 27 mins, 2015 Key Topics Marketing Strategy Retailing Corporate Social Responsibility Globalisation Starbucks is the essential success story of the American capitalist dream. From humble beginnings in 1971 as a Seattle coffee store, it’s become a multinational with over 21,000 outlets in 63 countries. Its brand is universally known. HOW DID THEY DO IT? Starbucks’ success owes a lot to the vision of its guiding light, CEO Howard Schultz, who preaches an almost evangelical brand of caring capitalism, at the same time focusing relentlessly on the customer experience. Acquisition, brand-stretching, social media, and new channel development have all played a part. They put a lot of stress on caring for their staff and the in-store atmosphere. They want customers to feel it’s “their Starbucks”. GOOD CITIZEN? CEO Howard Schultz talks about creating “a philosophically different business” but is it really? Critics point to low pay and scheduling pressures for staff, tax avoidance and, above all, the pittance developing world farmers receive for the coffee beans. What is Positioning or Brand Positioning? (Episode 6 : S1)

04:22
Positioning is what you do to the consumer’s mind, not to the product. It is a process to cope with major competitors. Script: Eric: So, today we’re gonna learn, what is positioning. Kimberly: Oh! Product Positioning! That’s my favorite topic. I know what it is, It is to placing the brand on shelf, and making it available in shops, where our customer can buy it easily. Eric: Stop your guessing habit? Will ya? Kimberly: No! Product Positioning is doing something with the product! Eric: Stop it! Please! Kimberly: Ok! Zip Eric: Thank you very much! First of all, there is no word like Product Positioning. There is Positioning or you may also call it Brand Positioning. But not Product Positioning. (Why? We’ll discuss it in next video) Let’s start discussing from real issues marketers are facing, related to positioning concept. So that, we can also understand the importance of positioning. Kimberly: Go ahead Eric! Eric: According to Al Ries’ interview on this blog, KamilAli.com Al Ries Interview Marketing people believe in positioning, they just don’t believe in the principles of marketing, principles that we have been writing about for decades. Kimberly: What does he mean? Eric: In other words, you should realize and remember three things: The positioning concept is widely misunderstood. People have learnt the definition of it, and forget the steps required to achieve, and sustain positioning. How to do positioning is difficult to comprehend, it’s even more difficult to apply on the brand. If you’ll use your common sense, you’ll be lost. On the other hand, if you’ll use your marketing sense, you’ll be on the right track. If we’re going to learn positioning it is necessary to know about two marketing gurus. We might discuss their quotes during the discussion. Kimberly: Who are they? Eric: They are the fathers of positioning concept, who coined this term. Those were two marketing strategist and world’s top marketing gurus, Al Ries and Jack Trout. Positioning creates a specific perception, of the brand in the, specific category. For example, In America, what is the name of the safest car? It’s Volvo. So, In consumers mind, Volvo has, a “perception” of, Safety. This is a task of positioning to put a perception in the mind of consumer or prospect. (Positioning is a process of putting the perception in the mind of consumer or prospect) So, positioning of Volvo has been created, by putting the perception, safety, in the mind of consumer. Now, Volvo is famous for safety, NOT for speedy car, good driving or luxury car. Kimberly: But, what if the competitor wants to develop the same positioning? In this case, safety? Eric: Good question! Here’s the rule of thumb: when we talk about competitor, “differentiation” comes in. Positioning is built through “perception” and, competitor is engaged through “differentiation”. Combine them, and you will have the definition of positioning. Kimberly: So, what is positioning? Eric: Definition of Positioning: Positioning is to differentiate the brand in the mind of consumer. Kimberly: That means, the perception of competitor’s brand, has to be “different” from the perception” of our brand? Eric: Yes, if our competitor’s brand positioning is safety, we have to choose different positioning, like, luxury car. For example, if Volvo’s positioning is safety, Ferrari positioning is speedy car, BMW’s positioning is ultimate driving and Lexus’ positioning is luxury car. Kimberly: How I’ll be able to do positioning like that? Eric: By getting in to the mind of consumer before our competitor. Kimberly: And, how do we get into the mind of that, bloody consumer? Eric: That’s the real part, how to do positioning: how to get in to the mind of consumer and then hang in there. We’ll learn it in the next meeting! For today, here are two Kamil’s Bonuses: Positioning is what you do to the consumer’s mind, not to the product. It is a process to cope with major competitors. Go-to-market strategy examples

16:01
We’ll give you three examples to best build a go-to-market strategy that will help you make money and drive long-term growth. Get a free trial of our new sales and marketing planning software at: http://register.funnelplan.com/ -------------- The right strategy doesn't depend on your product, but your buyers. Let's take a look at the companies, their buyers, and their strategy. At the end I'll give you a model for working this out for yourself. Desktop Computers For my first example, let's take a company that wants to own the desktop computing market. Firstly, come up with something that's truly amazing and different, clever, unique. Take that to as broad a market as you possibly can, and this is what the company I'm about to talk about did. Take it to as broad a market as you possibly can. Find out from that early market experience what group of buyers are likely to be a good market for you to focus on in the future. Start very broadly, selling very widely. Find the pattern and then find a niche that you think might be worth dominating, and then completely change the strategy and focus just on that. Leader in an enterprise software category For my second go to market strategy example, I'm going to pick an established player in an established market. Very different story. This established player in an established market had done such a good job of riding the enterprise applications market, that they were near dominant in that space. That's good news, but it's also bad news. The bad news is that pretty much all of the market, the enterprise market, had already bought either from this company, or from one of their competitors. Whilst they enjoyed the lion's share of the market, the market was pretty much drying up. Everybody had bought a product like this from either them or from their competitor. Challenger in enterprise software For my third go to market strategy example, again I'll stick to a mature market, but this time the company's not the gorilla. In fact, they're probably fourth on a good day. Maybe less, maybe fifth or sixth in the market. It's a big market, and they've done well, they've profited, and they've used those profits to continue to invest in sales and marketing as well as R&D. The problem is that as the market started to decline, their fortunes declined. They'll continue to invest, but they're investing in order to grow their share in a market that was pretty much consolidating. Now we're losing money hand over fist. What's the right strategy then? Aspirational Brands: Using Negative Marketing & Negative Branding

04:02
Want to convince customers that your brand is exclusive? Then it might be time to break out the customer contempt. Some of the world's most powerful brands do their best to show customers that only a select few will measure up to their exclusive brand standards. In this three-minute emotional marketing lesson video, emotional branding researcher Graeme Newell shows how a little contempt can make your brand downright irresistible. It's an age-old question of emotional branding: do you do negative branding or positive branding to push your product? Negative marketing and positive marketing are two seemingly opposing approaches that have been used in emotional marketing for decades, but is negative advertising really a useful tool? How Emotional Branding Cuts Through the Clutter Emotional branding's strength is that it allows brands to cut through the clutter that dominates the marketing world. Emotional branding does not look at a product and say, "How can I push the cool features of this product?" Instead, it says "How do the customers of this brand want to feel about themselves?" In this way, emotional branding and emotional marketing can connect with the customer on a much deeper level than other types of branding. This applies for negative branding and positive branding equally, with emotional marketing being a strong tool to push a brand home. Emotional Marketing and How to Choose the Right Marketing It's often not easy to decide what sort of marketing is right for your brand. Emotional branding is useless if it is not paired with the correct customers for the situation. The key here is to find out what your customers really want in their own lives and dreams, not what you have. Emotional marketing is all about transitioning from a focus on features to a focus on attitude. You take the attitude that your customers already have, and show that you are a representative of those same attitudes. Negative Marketing vs. Positive Marketing So how do you decide if you should use the carrot or the stick when motivating customers to buy? Negative marketing is a powerful motivator for some customers, and is a tool that should be used if deemed appropriate. Normally, the groups that are most motivated by the power of negative branding are those that are high powered and successful. These are the people that are constantly looking forward and upward, and can take a little smacking around. Negative Advertising for Aspirational Brands The best place for negative advertising is without question in an aspirational brand. Aspirational brands differ from normal brands because they are not brands that appeal to everyone. Emotional branding uses aspiration brands to only target a certain group, whether it be high-powered businessmen or tough athletes. These are the brands that push you to be good enough to even buy their brands, not the other way around. Negative Branding or Positive Branding? While negative branding is great for aspirational brands, sometimes it's better to use honey than vinegar in your marketing. The most important aspect of negative branding is that it cannot be used in the wrong sense. If your customers are not the type to take well to being abused a little, they're certainly not going to respond well to being taunted by your advertising. So let's recap • Emotional branding cuts through the clutter by identifying what lies deep within the hearts and minds of the customer. It then uses these desires to position a brand around an identity that the customer already identifies with. • Negative marketing is something that is best reserved for those who are high-powered and are ok with taking a bit of abuse from their brands. Don't just start taunting your customers without a game plan • Aspirational brands take to negative advertising like a fish to water. The customer has to prove that she is tough enough to buy the product, not the other way around.
