Atlantis Bahamas Dan Knowles Transfer From Nassau Airport

02:12
http://tammybahamas.com When we got to the Nassau airport we met the transfer service that Atlantis recommended called Dan Knowles. The ride lasted about 30 minutes and took longer on the way back because traffic was pretty congested because of the construction to get ready for Miss Teen Pageant or something like that.

Space Shuttles Discovery and Atlantis Switched Locations on March 9 at KSC

10:13
Shuttle Discovery moved from its processing hangar, Orbiter Processing Facility-1 (OPF-1) and parked while Atlantis was moved out of the Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) to take Discovery's place in OPF-1. The two shuttles passed each other while en route to their new locations. The move was scheduled to be the final time that Discovery will roll out of an OPF. Discovery will remain temporarily in the VAB until mid-April. Discovery is set to be transported atop a modified 747 jet to Dulles International Airport in Virginia on April 17. It then will be moved on April 19 to the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum Udvar-Hazy Center near Dulles for permanent public display. In OPF-1, Atlantis will undergo preparations for public display at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex and is scheduled to roll over to the complex in November. The visitor complex plans to open its display of Atlantis in July 2013.

It was the 31st shuttle mission overall, and the 5th flight for Atlantis. STS-34 launched from Kennedy Space Center, Florida, on 18 October 1989, and landed at Edwards Air Force Base, California, on 23 October. During the mission, the Jupiter-bound Galileo probe was deployed into space... Commander Donald E. Williams Second spaceflight Pilot Michael J. McCulley Only spaceflight Mission Specialist 1 Franklin R. Chang-Diaz Second spaceflight Mission Specialist 2 Shannon W. Lucid Second spaceflight Mission Specialist 3 Ellen S. Baker First spaceflight... Atlantis lifted off from Pad B, Launch Complex 39, Kennedy Space Center (KSC), at 12:53 EDT on 18 October 1989... The primary payload, the Project Galileo spacecraft with its attached Inertial Upper Stage (IUS), was successfully deployed on its journey to Jupiter. STS-34 was only the second shuttle flight to deploy a planetary spacecraft, the first being STS-30, which deployed the Magellan spacecraft. Galileo became the first spacecraft to orbit an outer planet and to penetrate the atmosphere of an outer planet. Also, the spacecraft was scheduled to make the first extended observations of the Jovian system and first direct sampling of Jupiter's atmosphere, as well as the first asteroid flybys. Several anomalies occurred during the flight, but none had a major impact on the mission... Chang Díaz described his second flight as much more "subdued". Demonstrators protested at lauch time against the flight because it had a nuclear device on board to power the Galileo spacecraft. He also said they almost aborted the flight in orbit three times because of malfunctions, but continued because the alternative was to land with the nuclear device at an airport in Senegal... Because of high winds predicted at the nominal landing time, the landing was moved two orbits earlier to 12:33 EDT on 23 October 1989. Atlantis landed on Runway 23 at Edwards Air Force Base, California, after a mission duration of 4 days, 23 hours and 40 minutes. Payload and experiments The mission's primary task was to deploy the Galileo spacecraft with its attached IUS booster. Deployment occurred on schedule at 19:15 EDT on 18 October, slightly more than six hours after launch, and the IUS successfully boosted Galileo toward Venus on the first leg of its six-year journey to Jupiter. The spacecraft was injected on a Venus transfer orbit at 20:20 EDT, and separated from the IUS 47 minutes later. Galileo required a triple gravity assist -- from Venus, Earth, and then Earth again -- to propel it from the inner part of the solar system to Jupiter in the outer system. The trajectory made it possible to also observe asteroids 951 Gaspra and 243 Ida. Galileo had two major components: an orbiter which examined Jupiter and its four largest moons for eight years, and a probe which descended into the Jovian atmosphere to take direct samplings before being destroyed by the gas giant's heat and pressure. Besides the Galileo spacecraft, Atlantis' payload bay held two canisters containing the Shuttle Solar Backscatter Ultraviolet (SSBUV) experiment. SSBUV, which made its first flight on STS-34, was developed by NASA to check the calibration of the ozone sounders on free-flying satellites, and to verify the accuracy of atmospheric ozone and solar irradiance data. The experiment operated successfully. STS-34 carried a further five mid-deck experiments, all of which were deemed successful, including the Polymer Morphology (PM) experiment, sponsored by the 3M Company... The Mesoscale Lightning Experiment, which had been flown on previous shuttle missions, observed the visual characteristics of large-scale lightning in the upper atmosphere. The crew successfully troubleshooted a student experiment on ice crystal growth... On 22 October, Lucid and Baker completed the Growth Hormone Concentration and Distribution in Plants experiment by freezing samples of corn seedlings grown in orbit during the mission. In the cabin, the crew operated an IMAX (70-millimeter) camera, last flown on STS-29. Werner Herzog's 2005 film The Wild Blue Yonder featured footage filmed on the flight...

Atlantis Casino Resort Spa, Reno, Nevada, USA, 5-star hotel 100% Verified Reviews Pluses: The staff, restaurants and amenities were outstanding. We're not much for gambling but the property and the set up, the visuals, were really nice. There was lots of shopping nearby so we had plenty to do during our stay. We especially loved the Tuscan Buffet and the Purple Parrot restaurants. However, everything we dined on at the resort was simply amazing and our room was awesome and the views of the Sierra Nevada mountains was so nice. I highly recommend! The proximity of this hotel to Tahoe area makes this property idea for skiing trips. Atlantis is only about 30 mins away from Ski Mt. Rose and the hotel is children friendly, well serviced, and a value to boot. The buffet at Toucan Charlie, which was revamped a year or so ago, is now a must visit with their delicious assortment of foods that use better quality of ingredients than those buffets normally use. Minuses: They should consider providing microwave and small fridge for the rooms, my husband is diabetic and we needed somewhere to store his insulin and had to keep it on ice the entire stay. Also, it would have been nice to have somewhere to store our leftovers from our dining if we chose to save anything we weren't able to eat at the time...other than that, everything was perfect! Unfortunately as a non-smoker the thing I did not like was the lack of good circulation.

Shuttle Bus to Atlantis Bahamas from Norwegian Ship

01:06
We purchased the Atlantis Excursion through Norwegian when it went on 50% off about 2 weeks before the cruise. It's about a 7-10 min. ride from the cruise port...*Shuttle is air conditioned. Took about an hour by the time we got off the ship....waited in line for wristbands & to sign waivers, & then arriving at Atlantis. It's chaos..and about a 10 min walk from ship to shuttle. Once off shuttle (lets you off at Coral Towers), you will follow the guide to the area of your choice...about a 10 min walk. *Word of advice....when you get to Atlantis, go directly to get a locker, I waited in line for 1 hour to get a locker! Was NOT happy.

It carried the Jupiter-bound Galileo spacecraft in its cargo bay. The countdown was delayed at T-minus 5 minutes for 3 minutes and 40 seconds to update the onboard computer for a change in the Transoceanic Abort Landing (TAL) site. The TAL site was changed from Ben Guerir Air Base, Morocco, to Zaragoza Air Base, Spain, because of heavy rain at Ben Guerir. The launch was originally targeted for 12 October 1989, the first day of a 41-day launch period during which the planets were properly aligned for a direct flight to Jupiter. The liftoff was rescheduled for 17 October 1989 to replace a faulty main engine controller for Space Shuttle Main Engine No. 2. It was postponed again until 18 October 1989 because of rain-showers within 20 miles (32 km) of Kennedy Space Center's Shuttle Landing Facility. The weather conditions were in violation of the launch commit criteria for a Return To Launch Site (RTLS) landing in the event of an aborted flight. The primary payload, the Galileo spacecraft with its attached Inertial Upper Stage (IUS), was successfully deployed on its journey to Jupiter.

Shuttles Endeavour & Atlantis Nose to Nose One Final Time

19:14
NASA's space shuttles Endeavour and Atlantis switched locations today at the agency's Kennedy Space Center in Florida, and in the process came nose-to-nose for the last time in front of Orbiter Processing Facility (OPF) 3. Endeavour was moved from OPF 2 to the Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) where it will be housed temporarily until its targeted departure from Kennedy atop the Shuttle Carrier Aircraft in mid-September. After a stop at the Los Angeles International Airport, Endeavour will move in mid-October to the California Science Center for permanent public display. Now in the processing facility after leaving the VAB, shuttle Atlantis will undergo preparations for its move to the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex in November, with a grand opening planned for July 2013.
