Oracle Database: Working with External Tables
“External tables can be a fantastic tool for reading files into your database using SQL,” says Oracle SQL Developer advocate Chris Saxon. “However, they can be a bit tricky to work with.” In this 2 Minute Tech Tip recorded at ODTUG Kscope 2018, Chris explains how using the external table parameter override clause can make things a lot less tricky, and, even better, how Oracle Database 18c allows you to create inline external tables. https://developer.oracle.com/ https://cloud.oracle.com/en_US/tryit

Oracle CURRENT_DATE Function
https://www.databasestar.com/oracle-date-functions/ The Oracle CURRENT_DATE function is used to return the current date in the session timezone. The session timezone is the timezone that the current user is logging in from. This can be different from the database’s timezone. The syntax of the CURRENT_DATE function is: CURRENT_DATE No parameters are needed - just the function name. The function returns a DATE data type, and it includes hours, minutes, and seconds. This is good to know because the default display format for DATE does not include the time component, and it can be easy to forget. It’s different to the SYSDATE function as SYSDATE returns the date in the database timezone, and CURRENT_DATE returns the date in the session time zone. So, if I’m logging in from Melbourne, Australia, and the database is in London, England, then the CURRENT_DATE will return a date and time that’s 10 hours ahead of SYSDATE. It may be on the same day, or it could be a different day, depending on when I run the function. You can perform arithmetic on this function just like any other date value (e.g. CURRENT_DATE - 7 for 7 days ago). For more information about the Oracle CURRENT_DATE function, including all of the SQL shown in this video and the examples, read the related article here: https://www.databasestar.com/oracle-date-functions/

SQLPLUS: LineSize & PageSize
In this tutorial, you'll learn how to set linesize and pagesize . PL/SQL (Procedural Language/Structured Query Language) is Oracle Corporation's procedural extension for SQL and the Oracle relational database. PL/SQL is available in Oracle Database (since version 7), TimesTen in-memory database (since version 11.2.1), and IBM DB2 (since version 9.7).[1] Oracle Corporation usually extends PL/SQL functionality with each successive release of the Oracle Database. PL/SQL includes procedural language elements such as conditions and loops. It allows declaration of constants and variables, procedures and functions, types and variables of those types, and triggers. It can handle exceptions (runtime errors). Arrays are supported involving the use of PL/SQL collections. Implementations from version 8 of Oracle Database onwards have included features associated with object-orientation. One can create PL/SQL units such as procedures, functions, packages, types, and triggers, which are stored in the database for reuse by applications that use any of the Oracle Database programmatic interfaces. PL/SQL works analogously to the embedded procedural languages associated with other relational databases. For example, Sybase ASE and Microsoft SQL Server have Transact-SQL, PostgreSQL has PL/pgSQL (which emulates PL/SQL to an extent), and IBM DB2 includes SQL Procedural Language,[2] which conforms to the ISO SQL’s SQL/PSM standard. The designers of PL/SQL modeled its syntax on that of Ada. Both Ada and PL/SQL have Pascal as a common ancestor, and so PL/SQL also resembles Pascal in several aspects. However, the structure of a PL/SQL package does not resemble the basic Object Pascal program structure as implemented by a Borland Delphi or Free Pascal unit. Programmers can define public and private global data-types, constants and static variables in a PL/SQL package.[3] PL/SQL also allows for the definition of classes and instantiating these as objects in PL/SQL code. This resembles usage in object-oriented programming languages like Object Pascal, C++ and Java. PL/SQL refers to a class as an "Abstract Data Type" (ADT) or "User Defined Type" (UDT), and defines it as an Oracle SQL data-type as opposed to a PL/SQL user-defined type, allowing its use in both the Oracle SQL Engine and the Oracle PL/SQL engine. The constructor and methods of an Abstract Data Type are written in PL/SQL. The resulting Abstract Data Type can operate as an object class in PL/SQL. Such objects can also persist as column values in Oracle database tables. PL/SQL is fundamentally distinct from Transact-SQL, despite superficial similarities. Porting code from one to the other usually involves non-trivial work, not only due to the differences in the feature sets of the two languages,[4] but also due to the very significant differences in the way Oracle and SQL Server deal with concurrency and locking. There are software tools available that claim to facilitate porting including Oracle Translation Scratch Editor,[5] CEITON MSSQL/Oracle Compiler [6] and SwisSQL.[7] The StepSqlite product is a PL/SQL compiler for the popular small database SQLite. PL/SQL Program Unit A PL/SQL program unit is one of the following: PL/SQL anonymous block, procedure, function, package specification, package body, trigger, type specification, type body, library. Program units are the PL/SQL source code that is compiled, developed and ultimately executed on the database. The basic unit of a PL/SQL source program is the block, which groups together related declarations and statements. A PL/SQL block is defined by the keywords DECLARE, BEGIN, EXCEPTION, and END. These keywords divide the block into a declarative part, an executable part, and an exception-handling part. The declaration section is optional and may be used to define and initialize constants and variables. If a variable is not initialized then it defaults to NULL value. The optional exception-handling part is used to handle run time errors. Only the executable part is required. A block can have a label. Package Packages are groups of conceptually linked functions, procedures, variables, PL/SQL table and record TYPE statements, constants, cursors etc. The use of packages promotes re-use of code. Packages are composed of the package specification and an optional package body. The specification is the interface to the application; it declares the types, variables, constants, exceptions, cursors, and subprograms available. The body fully defines cursors and subprograms, and so implements the specification. Two advantages of packages are: Modular approach, encapsulation/hiding of business logic, security, performance improvement, re-usability. They support object-oriented programming features like function overloading and encapsulation. Using package variables one can declare session level (scoped) variables, since variables declared in the package specification have a session scope.

OWASP AppSec 2010: Owning Oracle: Sessions and Credentials 2/3
Clip 2/3 Speakers: Wendel G. Henrique and Steve Ocepek, Trustwave In a world of free, ever-present encryption libraries, many penetration testers still find a lot of great stuff on the wire. Database traffic is a common favorite, and with good reason: when the data includes PAN, Track, and CVV, it makes you stop and wonder why this stuff isn't encrypted across the board. However, despite this weakness, we still need someone to issue queries before we see the data. Or maybe not... after all, it's just plaintext. Wendel G. Henrique and Steve Ocepek of Trustwave's SpiderLabs division offer a closer look at the world's most popular relational database: Oracle. Through a combination of downgrade attacks and session take-over exploits, this talk introduces a unique approach to database account hijacking. Using a new tool, thicknet, the team will demonstrate how deadly injection and downgrade attacks can be to database security. The Oracle TNS/Net8 protocol was studied extensively during presentation for this talk. Very little public knowledge of this protocol exists today, and much of the data gained is, as far as we know, new to Oracle outsiders. Also, during the presentation we will be offering to attendants: - Knowledge about man-in-the-middle and downgrade attacks, especially the area of data injection. - A better understanding of the network protocol used by Oracle. - The ability to audit databases against this type of attack vector. I- deas for how to prevent this type of attack, and an understanding of the value of encryption and digital signature technologies. - Understanding of methodologies used to reverse-engineer undocumented protocols. Oracle DBTIMEZONE Function
https://www.databasestar.com/oracle-timezone-functions/ The Oracle DBTIMEZONE function returns the database timezone offset of the database. It returns it in the format of +/- TZH:TZM, or the time zone region name. It’s useful to know what timezone the database is in when working with dates and different time zones, as it can impact the queries you write. The syntax for this function is quite simple: DBTIMEZONE There are no parameters - just the function name. You can’t actually change the timezone of the database using this function. It uses the timezone of the operating system of the server the database runs on. It’s similar to the SESSIONTIMEZONE function, but that function returns the timezone of your session and not the database server. It’s also similar to the SYSTIMESTAMP function, but that function returns the date, time, and timezone of the database, where DBTIMEZONE just returns the timezone. For more information about the Oracle DBTIMEZONE function, including all of the SQL shown in this video and the examples, read the related article here: https://www.databasestar.com/oracle-timezone-functions/

How to Change Life Years Field for an Asset in Oracle EBS R12 or R11 Using API?
FA_API_FA_ADJUSTMENT_PUB.DO_ADJUSTMENT API may be used to process changes to existing fixed assets when number of records is very high. Using this API you may change different information (fields) in both releases R11 or R12. The main difference between releases is that in R12 you do not need below parameter which is required for R11. -- px_inv_rate_tbl To get API sample used go to http://oracle-ebs-hands-on.blogspot.com/2014/06/how-to-change-life-years-field-for.html For other interesting tips http://oracle-ebs-hands-on.blogspot.com

BluePrism - Environment & Session Variables || Reality & Useful
Hi Friends, Let's come into the development/implementation part. Environment variables We have two types of environment variables, mean we can declare process level and business level in System Manager. See here, You saw this, I created one environment variable in Business level but I can see under process also. Then why the tool differentiated under process and business object? It's a categorizing the variables that's it. we will access the created environment variable in process Here is my process, let's access the varible into internal data item. I Created the local data item. to access the environment variable configure the local data item. We have the Expose option in data item, open it and see 'Environment - Read the corresponding Environment variable from System Manager' But I didn't find my 'hello' variable. Let's close and reopen it. See I got it and select the env variable name from the list. But how can I see value for that environment variable. Let's do it. 1. I created another local variable and using calculation stage copying the value from configured data item to local variable. Can we edit the environment variable value? Try that once. See, before executing the bot while reset, I am getting error message open and see that what is the message 'Cannot store data in an environment variable' even If you run it won't work. See that I got the internal exception. Environment variables are final variables, once you declare the varible only you can change the value in System Manager and cannot be possible through process/Business Object. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Let's create/open another process or business object and see can we able to access the same environment variable or not? See I got the environment variable and it's value in newly created process. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Now we will see about Session Varible. let's revert the code of existing process as I will concatenate the environment variable value to local variable and storing the result into local variable. Let's run and check it. I got the concatenated value. If we run through control room can we see these value? Let's publish our process and run it from control room. process started and finished. Where we can see the session variables. There is a link to see session variables 'Show Session Variables' I enabled, let's run and check it Started and finished, but we cannot see the data item value. Because we didn't configured the data item to show in session variables list. For this, we need to expose the local data item to show in session variables list. Open the process and open the data item and choose the option called 'Session - Expose the data item to Control Room' Now run and check it once We did the right way to show the data item in session variables list but why can't we see the variable value? To that the process/business object show wait for some to before complete it. Because our process is very small. let's use the wait stage before end Ohh! We don't have wait stage in process, how use the sleep Action in General Business Object. drag the Action stage and choose the values. I choosen the 'Utility - General' and Sleep and passed the how many seconds should wait our process let's run and see it See that while the process is in running mode we can see the configured session variable. After finished the process it's gone. Thank you for watching video
