5 Inverts Beginners Should AVOID!

05:42
People love adding Invertebrates to their saltwater aquariums because they can make great additions to a clean up crew, although many people get them simply for how cool looking they are. For this reason, many beginners end up making impulse purchases on inverts without realizing the potential consequences. In this CoralFish video, I give you 5 Inverts that beginners should avoid when first getting into the saltwater aquarium hobby. Sea Star Wasting Disease Update 2017

08:10
(Visit: http://www.uctv.tv) The largest non-commercial marine mass mortality event on record (as of 2013) created a ‘natural experiment’ and an opportunity to study genomic changes in wild populations with unprecedented detail. Rather than observing only the aftermath—a team of researchers from UC Merced is reconstructing the population and genetic consequences of an epidemic outbreak of sea star wasting disease. The team measured the abundance and genetic variation of Pisaster ochraceus, a keystone species, in the year preceding mass mortality. They then repeated sampling of adults and juveniles in subsequent years, measuring population dynamics and genomic shifts during and after the disease outbreak. At a time when marine diseases and mass mortalities are on the rise, this study documents the impact of little-known wildlife diseases and potential trajectory of recovery in a keystone marine species. Top 10 Slowest Animals In The World 2017

02:18
Top 10 Slowest Animals In The World 2017 10.)Manatee Manatees weigh 440 to 1300 pounds. They can grow from 8 feet all the way up to 13 feet long. They can eat a tenth of their weight in just 24 hours. The manatees are endangered but are still at risk because people want their hide, oil, and bones. When a mother has her baby they have them under water and must help the baby to the surface to take its first breath. The infant baby can usually swim an hour after being born. 9.)Gila Monster This Gila monster is one of the most venomous lizards in the world. The bite of this lizard may be painful but no death of any human has been reported. They feed on eggs or newborn babies. When they do bite they tend to chew so the venom can move through their teeth and go into the skin of its victim. 8.)Nematodes A handful of soil can contain thousands of these worms. There is nearly 20,000 different kinds of Nematas. Nematodes have been known to be described as a tube inside of a tube. They get no bigger then 8 meters long so that means they are very small. They are so slow that they sit and wait for their food to come to them. 7.)Seahorse A seahorse is in the category of a fish because they live in water breath through gills, and have a swim bladder. They can look forward and backwards at the same time so its easy for them to find food. Seahorses do not chew their food and use their snouts to suck up their food like vacuum cleaners. The seahorse pair for life. The female transfers her eggs to the male and the male then carries the eggs till they are born. Some can have up to 1500 babies at a time. After the babies are born they are on their own and most of the time almost 1 in 1000 die so they don’t last long. 6.)Slug A slugs blood is green. They lay 20 to 100 eggs several times a year. A slug is a snail without a shell. Slugs use to live in the ocean and that is why they must stay moist. A slug does not need another slug to mate even though they prefer a mate. The slime off of a slug absorbs water so that is why it is hard to get off your hands. Slugs are like sharks they lose and replace their teeth. 5.)Koala Bear Koalas are not bears. They do not drink much water and get most of their moisture from leaves. They spend most of their lives asleep in trees. They survive on leaves with little to no nutrients and have very small brains. Koalas are great swimmers and tend to cross water to get away from flooding in another area. They carry the baby around until it is old enough to be independent. They have the 5th palace in the list of the world’s top 10 slowest animals 2017. 4.)Giant Tortoise A tortoise is a turtle but a turtle is not a tortoise. A group of tortoises are called a creep. Tortoises have an exoskeleton and a endoskeleton. They can not swim but hold their breath for long periods of time. Their shells are sensitive to touch. They use their throat to smell with. The tortoise is very smart shown from studies. 3.)Garden Snail As you already no they are no different then slugs they just have a shell. They are related to shell fish, they live everywhere on Earth. Mucus from them is said to improve your skin. Some slugs have lungs. A snail is stronger than a starfish. The shells can sometimes be hairy and then others are smooth. The smallest snail can fit through the eye of a needle. 2.)Starfish The starfish may be called a fish but it is not a fish. There are thousands of species of the sea star. Some sea stars have more than five legs and can have up to forty arms.If an arm may happen to get cut off they can grow it back. Sea stars do not have blood. They have tube feet that help them move around the sea floors. Even though you may not be able to see them they have eyes. 1.)Three-toed Sloth Sloths are clumsy on land but are great swimmers. They spend most of their time in trees. They only use the bathroom once a week. The sloth only sleeps up to ten hours a day. Algae grows on them so they are harder to see by there predators. After a sloth dies they will still hold on to whatever they was holding onto when they died. CATCH AND COOK Spiny Sea Urchin!!! (UNI)

Daniel and I drove to Mendocino to catch some Abalone and Sea Urchins aka Uni. May not exactly be a catch and cook, but we can call it a catch and eat. This may be the last year to dive for Abalone until 2030 so the rumor goes. Their numbers have been decreasing a lot due to an increase in the number of Sea Urchins. Hoping the Ab numbers start to recover in the coming years. Regenerative capacity of the northern Pacific seastar

01:46
The northern Pacific seastar, Asterias amurensis, is an amazing animal that has the phenomenal capacity to regenerate lost arms, and in some cases, regenerate an entirely new animal from a single arm (in the case where part of the central disc is still present). Here are some examples of seastars that have evidently been mutilated or suffered some kind of trauma, but have then bounced back; with a vengeance!

Japanese Street Food - GIANT CONCH & CLAM Okinawa Japan Seafood

16:38
In Okinawa, Japan giant clams and conches are usually found in seafood markets. All parts of the conch meat are edible. In East Asian cuisines, this seafood is often cut into thin slices and then steamed or stir-fried. The large conch shells have been used as trumpets (Horagai) in Japan for many centuries. The instrument, which has served a number of purposes throughout Japanese history, has been given a number of Japanese names depending on its function.

KING HELMET SNAIL IS HUNTING FOR A MEAL

03:26
KING HELMET SNAIL IS HUNTING FOR A MEAL A King Helmet Snail is foraging for a meal. They eat urchins (among other things). How is that possible you may ask. I've asked myself the same question. This video shows the highlights of the hunt. Watch as the snail rears up and spreads his muscular foot in order to fall on and restrain the urchin long enough for him to extend his radula (watch this during the video) to puncture the urchin's shell and extract the flesh within. Is he successful? Watch and see the drama unfold. This is full screen HD video, so it may be best to let it load all the way before watching.

Sea Cucumber Waking Up To Eat Is Just Amazing

01:05
This sea cucumber wakes up from sleep all of a sudden and starts eating. Sea cucumbers are echinoderms—like starfish and sea urchins. There are some 1,250 known species, and many of these animals are indeed shaped like soft-bodied cucumbers. All sea cucumbers are ocean dwellers, though some inhabit the shallows and others live in the deep ocean. They live on or near the ocean floor—sometimes partially buried beneath it. Sea cucumbers feed on tiny particles like algae, minute aquatic animals, or waste materials, which they gather in with 8 to 30 tube feet that look like tentacles surrounding their mouths.

10:03
Making Snails in Garlic butter is actually really easy and can be made at home with just a few ingredients. of course the hardest part sometimes is to find the snails. Ingredients and recipe on my website: https://www.thefrenchcookingacademy.com/recipe/escargots-garlic-butter-recipe/ Snails recipes are very common in Europe and even though they are known as being a real French delicacy, the Spanish people eat way more snails then the french. you can convert the ingredients in the video with this tools: http://www.convert-me.com/en/convert/cooking/
